i wouldnt expect anythin mp-related as its clearly just another money grab from id...

as for the games downfall, when it came out (on 3CDs, hello early 2000s) it was by far the best looking game out there, but it did came at an expense, that it is just simply wasnt coded with mp in mind alongside with many other things. guess the developers only aim was to make some compromises that lets the game at least run at 30fps on a top grade commercial computer of its age.
as for today any machine would run d3 on 120fps no problem, the fundamentals what would make a good DM game just not there... if u saw any videos they completely focused on single player, so the mp as it is i assume stays how it was in 2004.

if you take a look at the gopher vs rocketboy match from qcon2k4 d3mp is not a game that would have any appeal for nowadays gamers nor the already minuscule DM scene

its not better than quakelive (but nothing is really), but its different enough to take look if you want a duel with some new things and are deep down bored of quake.

There are still some players who have been playing Doom 3 since 2004 though and are really solid. So you will get beat by unknowns and its comparable to quake ,strafe juming, mega health, armour, if you are bored of quakelive it would be worth a look.

The only cool thing about Doom 3 duel was being able to hide in the shadows and just the lighthing possibilities, but this is ruined as soon as people start using quake-like settings (super bright maps)

Lol, I am seriously thinking of making a complaint about this game.

It looks like they made it peer to peer, there are hardly any options everyone has several hundred ping on the server bar the host which means all the weapons are useless because the lag is about the same as playing quake 3 with about 600 ping. I shit you not.

I used to have soft spot for Doom 3, and now its the most hideous online experience I have ever seen.

Would it have been so hard to start a few dedicated servers in usa\europe.

Seriously if you hate quakelive, play this for an hour, it will make you so grateful for what you have.

I am shocked at how unplayable the mp is, there is a semi decent game under it, but you simply cant play it.

Its never been on the developers to provide dedicated servers... Players buy dedicated servers or make their own. its been like this since the beginning.

Sometimes a well off developer will provide a couple of servers on a games launch until the community grows enough and enough time passes that they let theirs go down.

At least this is always how it USED to happen. I'm so out of touch with gaming these days i guess it might go down differently now or people have different expectations.

However with the strange circumstances with the doom3 product they should have put up a few servers for the community at least for 6-12 months. but its id software. They never think of stuff like this. Its all about the VR tech, nothing else.

I am not even sure if you are able to run your own dedicated servers.
There are no in game voting options either, you start the game while you play and the server lasts as long as you stay on.

Its like SF4, and it works for that because the nature of those games are like that. But even that has basic search options.

Yes, you can complain to steam about literally anything, I've had some games refunded and I've heard of users getting games refunded (like ubisoft from dust).

Not guaranteed you'll get money back though.

someone made a maplst or something for zdoom so it was possible to play the doom2 expansion from xbox, provided you got the wad extracted, so give it a little time, it should be playable just fine i would think :)
