mine is like 980, but i wouldnt have a problem mowing down people who farm ELO for a living, since this shit is easily manipulated by joining the winning team all the time.
all that aside, fckn clan arena spam belongs on the quakelive forums, go.
Aight sir, so how does skillrating get calculated these days? still in a primitive form of 'ur team wins so u must be awesome' ? Cause i find it hard to believe the QL Dev team actually putting in a decent system.
My skillrating apears to be around 500, though whenever a shuffle happens there is a 90% chance i get dumped into a team with rookies, and thus i get loss after loss.
At the end of the match, a value is calculated for each player who participated (minus those who didn't play long enough) by dividing their score per the time they played in this match. The list of players is sorted according to this value. Those who rank the highest gain skillrating, those who rank the poorest lose it. I'm not sure how the ammount gained/lost is calculated. I think it's either static or dependant on the number of players in the list.
The main problem is that the skill of your opponent is not directly taken into account. Of course it will be if you are in the middle of the list but there's no distinction between being on top of newbies or being on top of pros.
Also, you may understand that if you are always among the best on the servers you play on, your skillrating will increase non-stop until you reach the cap. Your skillrating then becomes only a function of the number of games you played. But at least those with the cap value are really those dominating their groups. There will however be not distinction between all those dominating people although some may be better than others.
It is obvious that shuffle was meant to play a great role in adjusting the skillratings. It was surely thought that someone with a skillrating too strong would be coupled with members too weak and make the team lose. However, the influence of your team on your score is limited. I can do relatively good even with noobs on my team. We'll lose by a large margin but I'll still be the best in my team and maybe even better than some of the other team members too so I won't lose any skillrating so it won't get toward my "real skill".
Overall it should work well for non-extreme skill values but not so much with very-good/very-bad players (compared to the average).
The top third players of the server (not just your team), as far as SCORE per TIME goes, gets +2 points.
The middle third players get +/- 0.
The bottom third players get -2 points.
(The +2, 0 and -2 valures are solely based on my limited research. I did a series of about 25 games where I checked my change in Skillrate after every game. Since I am first in the server 95% of the time, I can only "verify" the +2 gain after every game. I then purposely did 2 games where I was last, and 2 games where I was in the middle and got -2 and 0 for these games.)
So basically if you are always the (or one of the) best in the server, you will be at 999 Skillrating in 500 games - if you're starting at 0. Which if you play quite a bit, this can be reached in less than a month.
Nothing special there.Anyone who always finishes among the best on a server will eventually reach 999. It's really more a matter of number of games played than a matter of skill.
