Following an unsuccessful attempt at defending his DreamHack crown

Shane "rapha" Hendrixson spoke to me in a video interview.

Thorin

Easily one of my favourite interview subjects of the last 12 years. rapha is one of the few players where no matter the level of complexity you build into the question, or how abstract it may appear conceptually, he will respond with something interesting, well-thought out and often unexpected.

Now I have a sense for how Cooller must have felt when they dueled ^^

It's not so easy, being as I am only sent to events for SC2/LoL work, but when I'm at events which also feature Quake players I'll keep looking for opportunities to do some interviews.

I just remember watching rapha talk on ESL classics, explaining his decision making in a game against cooller and it totally blew my mind and I fell in love with quake.

16 is not possible, it would take so much time and players would be really exhausted at the end.
8 would be enough (players 9-16 don't really have a chance vs the top players anyway) and is certainly more doable.

Well, the advantage with round robin is it can be any number, not necessarily 8 or 16., maybe 8-12 world class players with no fillers? And no low-skill replacements would be necessary if one couldn't make it.

literally have said it for years... called swiss brackets and used in chess. usually you can determine a winner without every single player having to play each other.

think cdogg did this in one of the ctf/tdm/ca "triple threat" mix tournaments in q3. was pretty fun and iirc rapha was on one of the teams.

Afaik, a round robin tournament is not restricted to multiples of 2, right? In that, it could really be adapted to whoever is there of good enough skill level (as long as there are anough PCs).

Indeed. The only real problem is that we need one computer per player. It's a rather big limitation to us because there's a limited amount of space and computers around.

By the way. Why all go so fucking retarded about avek quit quake LAN TOURNEYS (not quake, like lots of morrons write)?? Cooller de facto quit too (without big attention whoring) and I dont see any tears. I hope I dont have to mention that avek is nobody compared to cooller...

And cooller was the biggest jerk on his retirement. Didn't say a thing, then on a interview he says quake was a waste of time. Sure he has unconditional fans but he lost a lot of respect there, which avek gained by not being a retard.
