all warsow's elements come from other games, most importantly cpm (to sum up features from older ones) and ut. If anything warsow is a blatant copy, not the opposite.
Kind of a vague defence. Warsow HAS copied other games, just like cpm. And maybe you can say that walljumping comes from warsow but I'm pretty sure it's not the first game to ever have it. And also why are you whining that they are copying from wsw? Surely when you play wsw you'd like to see it influence other games?
1. I'm just trying to troll megaman3 into answering me with extremely long and hatefull posts without spending too much effort on it. Of course Warsow didn't invent walljumping (they did however make it easier than it was in UT by letting you preform them by only pressing one button when near a wall), and of course WSW copied a lot from other games (especially from CPM).
2. No I don't want to see other games copying what's already there in some form, especially when this game tries to "revive" arena FPS. I want to see something fresh, new, yet skillfull (that's where SM fails) unlike 90% of Quakes population. Plus to them for making the movement at least a bit more challenging and advanced but still just copying stuff from other games is not really useful, especially when the game still sucks hard in other important aspects (maps, weapons, gametypes).
It's impossible not to "copy" other games. Put a rocket launcher and you're already copying the majority of fps'. The genre is 20 years old. Coming up with never-been-done-before ideas is not that easy.
You're all a bunch of faggots playing games that totally ripped of commander keen (shooting lasers? I MEAN COME ON, HOW OBVIOUS CAN IT BE?)
Not to mention duke3d had a ROCKET luncher ...
Also, you're able to run faster if you jump in Sonic? Quake/warsow devs secretly copied the Sonic the hedgehog jumping system and called it "strafe" jumping.
Good one... Can you expand on that? The fact is the game types haven't changed since wolf3d really. The mechanic is understandable, especially back then - the whole thing was new and no one had thought about this stuff much. 25 years on, you'd expect more refinement. As I said, there's a reason not many games come out with such mechanics - they simply aren't popular with gamers anymore and tbh I agree, there have to be better ways to create dynamic game play.
Domination is probably a bit too simplistic imo. One option would be to have the # of zones controlled sets your hp limit. The hp regeneration mechanic could be similar to the hawken one - you can stop and regenerate anywhere, but your mobility is very small/nonexistent. This could create quite interesting mechanic where players would have to balance regeneration with defending the points they hold etc. The winning mechanic would be that you have to cap every single point. Matches last 10 minutes. You can draw even if you are getting dominated etc. 2 minute overtime followed by sudden death in matches that need a winner.
Maybe not stop and stand still but perhaps an other way to reduce mobility? No jumping and limited to walk speed? Also, it's not like players never stop and stand still or hover around a single area as it stands atm so it won't make a big difference to the pacing.

standing still and hover over an area is because its the best strategic decision =) with movement being such a core fundemental quake, start chipping away at that and you will only end up reducing the overall skill level of the game, while also make it dull to both play and spectate.
Hmmm, I think it's more that you are unready or unwilling to seriously consider alternate mechanics - you say that domination style ones would be better (which are extremely simple) yet when a mechanic is suggested that would add a bit of strategy and tactics to it it would supposedly reduce the overall skill level.
I think such a system would be interesting because there are many variables to consider - when, where and for how long you regenerate - there is also room for traps and sneaky play - ie catching a player with his pants down whilst he regens etc. On the other hand, domination is just stand on the control spot to regenerate?
you're getting ahead of yourself =) when i said domination > tdm i was referring to the "pub fun" aspects of having full stack and weapons. by no means do i want domination to ever replace tdm in quakelive, because it is too simple and have fully removed an aspect that makes quake. personally i hate timing items, but at the same time i accept its a core fundemental of the game and if it were up to me, i still wouldnt make any major changes to it.
the regenerating player would be forced to stop at some point, creating very weak traps like a 50/50 around a corner or similar. it would also force repspawn times to be longer, which to me is always a minus.
dominations system allows you to remain fully mobile and regenerate hp =)
Ok fair enough, but like I said to nemecel further up (or down) the vanilla gametypes are simply not relateable to gamers these days and it's starting to be a case of evolve or die. I think that the gametypes and movement need the most work - as much as I love strafing etc its simply not intuitive or credible.

Seems better now, but so much missing still, the irony is although theyre in the right direction, slowly SM will just become an inferior quake clone =)
- Team matchmaking.
- LAN mode.
- An integrated tournament system.
- An integrated stream support.
???
You probably only looked at the moving pictures like the other sheep. Granted the game has stagnated at an average and boring state for the last few months, but it is time to stop narrowing the world down to [-] NOT QUAKE [|||||||||||||||||||||] QUAKE [+].
Not going to argue with a quake zealot, but I'm sure cs players would say cs is the optimal team based fps platform, and halo players would disagree, not to mention Quakers...
The simple fact is that quake duel is not relateable for the vast majority of gamers and thus it must either adapt or die.
Good argument.
I was always wondering why there is no online game that instead of releasing new version every few years releases new graphics engines and introduces small improvements continuously. The engines could be backward compatible if done correctly: latest version for attracting new players and pre-latest for ppl who want to have high fps on older hardware.
With current model successful competitive games have to die eventually because graphics engines get outdated and don't attract new players.
They should do that with QL. Imagine models with ragdolls, high poly maps, motion blur, HDR... ultimate duel game and with the next gen graphics to get the newbies. Add in Occulus Rift support too.
Why so frustrated? Just shared my opinion. BTW i did try SM, wasnt amused at all, quite the opposite so to speak.
Yes, QL have team matchmaking it is called TDMBot. It does have LAN support too, just not accessible to anyone for obvious reasons. It doesnt have integrated tournament system though but that is provided to me by professionals (FaceIt and many more). It does not have stream support (OMG you got me there!)
For clarification, i'd be the happiest person to migrate from QL to somewhere (because of the way ID software handling things, of course), however the title that lives up to my standards in the FPS genre is yet to be released, but let me tell you this SM is a lost cause, it was half a year ago, it is now and the future is pretty dire for this game.
You can argue with opinions, though, it is hard to argue with facts, when a 100k$ prizemoney tournament attracted 1500 viewers (for comparsion, the Face it legends tourney had 4000), you gotta be a blindfolded idiot to believe anyone cares for or interested in this game. The beta argument is really starting to run its curse after 8 months, i can assure you once the UbiSoft wallet closes the servers probably will shut down in that given month...
PS: Let me know when they implemented raw mouse input instead of DirectInput in a supposedly competitive FPS game :D
Yes yes I know boys, SM is piece of shit, Quake da b3st OK. My message is about the shitty retrograde attitude around here. For a reason I cannot really discern you would be delighted if SM did not succeed. I despise jubilant faggots.
Sad to see that Shootmania is stepping away from it simplistic movement, where it can have it owns kind of market and niche. Now that they're adding a lot of nonsense and bullshit in it's going to make it more complicated for the casuals they were trying to attract and it'll end up being "too hard" for casuals but too easy for anyone else.
To me the wall jump + slide seems to work nicely with the Shootmania idea and the level editor, however, i don't really feel like grappling hook suits the game - that's my initial thought, but guess i will have to test it first!
I just still feel like it needs other competitive gamemodes than Elite and additional weapons, to make the game catch my interest - which was lost early in the first beta. And please, make 1 button to jump and 1 to sprint... jumping before being able to sprint is the worst thing ever invented.
I gotta agree with the last point. It seems that they really wanted to make a unique movement system, but sadly the system they have come up with isn't really interesting. The slides and wall jumps should be interesting however.
trackmania player here
that game is called shootmania STORM, not just shootmania. it's the first of a series. for trackmania we already have 8 games with 8 different handling. if you dislike storm ignore it just like some trackmania players never play some trackmania environments and only focus on 2 or 3 ( or even just one, i'm thinking of trackmania Nation here). after sm X, sm Y and sm Y maybe you will be able to say " nadeo never had a grasp of what makes a good fast fps in my opinion". Right now what do we have? the beta of their first fps game. give nadeo a break
why would someone give nadeo a break, it's not a free to play project for them to learn the ins and outs of fps games. they're trying to sell a bad game, all the shit they get is perfectly justified
Shootmania is actually a really good game! The beta 2 gave alot of new features and now its really fun! I agree that Quake is probably the best FPS games ever made. But Shootmania is pretty good. I recommend you all to atleast give it some time and actually try it out! Its more fun and skill based then it looks!
Be more specific about what you mean please? There are good movements with walljump and such. Also its pure skill based on whos got the better tactics and whos the better aimer? Thats what a FPS game should be about. The guy that has best tactic/game sense and can aim freakin good!
Going through the "hassle" of playing a video game for a few days probably made him more money than a year's wage of the job your retarded IQ limited you to.
Or maybe your parents still buy your wannabe gaming gear for you, in that case I said nothing.
Not gonna end this post with a stupid insult to somebody's nation.
1. gaming career doesnt last forever
2. he can earn even more money.... my dong is still waiting :DDDD
3. decent job will earn you more money, nad its much more stable
viva la france, lets surrender so nazis wont destroy out capital :S
Shitmania! Fueling your primal urges to fling shit everywhere! This game will make you shit yourself! I'm not shitting you! My pity to all those on the Shitmania shitwagon.
