1.92 been in developement for years now, w3sp made this no-ob surface rly long ago. they just implemented this in the pre release of 1.92 (1.91.21)

would love to understand how that no ob surface was made.

theres been a no ob gamemode in defrag for a while. i guess they just changed a few lines in the coda so now it can be applied as a surf_noob (surface no ob) in radiant.

Agree with mccormic, there already were a command "df_ob_KillOBs" in DF which disable any OB along with the OB detector, but having it in Radiant allows a mapper to effectively avoid OB, random or not, in all or parts of his map.

What's the idea behind no OBs surfaces? Or point rather.

So that you can't just randomly OB and gain some gay advantage I guess, can't use random OB's in cups too, like DFWC. Obviously this little test map was pointless because it was just showing it out, but it's quite interesting actually ;o

I would rather they showed the difference on an actual defrag run...

What's there to show? There are OB's put in by the mapper and there are random OB's. Surely you understand the need to remove randomness from a grind-heavy competitive game?

As someone who plays QL, is there a way to get into defrag and have a similar feeling, so that it's not like floating on soap and whatever is learned there can be brought back to QL?

Doubt it.

The one and only way is to play ^^
The "feeling" you're talking about is directly related to the physics, either VQ3 or CPM (PM1 to be more precise) and in regard of this QL or W$W(*) are equal: different physics means different feelings.
But all the 'basic' moves and tricks are still valid if you play QL, only the physics and thus the possibilities are variables.

(*) I mentionned Warsow here cause many w$w racers do play on Defrag maps

It would be cool to have QL physics. It would allow people like me - not so much time, not so much interest outside QL - to play defrag.

I personnaly just can't decide ATM if that would be nice or not to have 1 more physics handled by DF... but I find the idea interresting too ^^

That's why defrag is not for everyone.

Defrag by itself is for everyone, it's just that casual players are barely inexistant and usually give up quite soon; even if the whole community of players is quite small, which is not a bad thing, I disagree that this game would be a sort of restricted area.

Is there a way to download the officialy latest release? I can't find that anywhere.

Also, I would like to know how to set cg_autoaction in a way that takes a screenshot and saves the demo of only finished runs, so I don't have a million demos from failed runs.

You can always get infos and links from the Q3DF forum and grab the archive from the defrag repository.

I don't think there is any cg_autoaction cvar but defrag has a feature to automatically record your best runs (df_autorecord 3), more info in the docs ^^
