Yeah zippyshare has been great, shame that it was always one of the smaller storage sites though!

People could have made them big but of course these morons will never upload there since it doesn't have affiliate program. And all file uploaders are greedy fucks, this is why when 2012 was the dead of all those scamming sites, people went back to torrenting.

I use Dropbox, and only for temporary sharing to move films from my home PC to my dorm where torrenting is prohibited. You can upload files any size and there's a 2GB storage room, which can be expanded up to 18GB with user referrals. Not sure about file deletion, never stored anything longer than a day or two.

Dropbox is neat. I have 3 year old files in mine :b

I got 50.9 Gigs in total storage room atm. In other words, if you got a Samsung G s3 you get a sick amount of space for free in a period of 2 years.

Don't know about uploading, but as far as downloading goes, mediafire.com and narod.ru reign supreme imo :D

I don't know narod.ru as file storage but as domain it immediately ring bells with fake update servers for AdMuncher. I use to use that to block adverts but then AdFender became so good!

Mediafire.com is a disaster. They used to be a lot less fascist and it was my go-to download site.

Nowadays they make sure 90% of their content gets deleted and removed and the whole site is less user friendly :(

I guess it depends on the rarity of what you're seeking, what search methods you use, and your download frequency... in my case mediafire and narod.ru have been more helpful than any other, but probably because they allow multiple & unlimited free downloads :x

I don't see the reason to use these. For moving personal data around - pendrives are cheaper and faster.
For large scale sharing - why would I use anything but torrent or another p2p network? I know how I pay and there are no arbitrary limitations. Data is available as long as there are ppl interested.

basically with those sites you can have your files immediately and automatically synced up on multiple devices including your phone. so you don't have to carry anything on your pendrive anywhere. It's very useful when you work on multiple pc's (work and home etc) and for always having your stuff on hand (in your phone) and also makes sharing with your co-workers and friends easy as hell. You have different folders to automatically share updated files to chosen people. I use dropbox all the time and there's no going back to pendrive, unless I really need to.

They claim that they delete duplicate files. How is it possible considering they don't have access to keys? And even if they identify them by comparing hashes how do they provide access to non-deleted instance?

yes, exactly, if this is true mega is in no way more private or secure than dropbox.

even with hashes it would be trivial to prove that user x has the same file as user y :C

i have no idea how mega themselves could possibly want this. they are so going to get legally crushed if they have ANY idea what kind of files they are hosting.

in the end it's not even sure where the encryption/decryption happens. if it's on the server than mega has to have all the keys and everyone is fucked, except for the feds and the copyright holders.

if it happens in the browser then the users are suspect to all kinds of attacks seeing as it is written in javascript and the de-duplication of files would have to be done by mega via hashes calculated pre-encryption. then only the users are fucked as mega could comply to takedown notices and point out every single user with the file in question.

After a fast search on the matter they say that "files will be encrypted with AES to make monitoring problematic"

If you want to encrypt the files so no one except you can read them then after you encrypt the files using standard algorithms divide the files bit-by-bit using random hex files for patterns, write the bits in different files, and then divide the keys into 3 or 4 smaller files and store them in different places. If you are really a fanatic you can generate encryption keys with the size of a full DVD the good part is that you can use the same cryptodata for as many files as you want.
I'd be very curious to see anyone trying to decrypt the files after that.

Finally got around to fix this damn post.

I've been downloading some huge files via Mega (namely dorftrottel HD) at speeds higher than I usually pull of with heavily seeded torrents.

haven't gotten around to uploading, but DLing works like a charm.
