Typically the asus monitors have higher input lag than benq (not by much). I'm not sure what this will be like.

I take it someone from here is going to get one? Do a good review of it.

QL is hardcapped at 125 fps, right? So I'd assume, going from 120 to 144hz wouldn't make a big difference, without actual fps increase to back it up. Just talking strictly in terms of fps/refresh rate, not input lag and other stuff.

There's not really much of a comparison between the BenQ monitors or this new one (which my guess would be more expensive than the current benq models).

only lightboost makes these newer models better than old ones.

Still 1080p though - want 1920x1200p at 144hz on a 24" panel... I know I know dual dvi can't sent that much data, but don't know why we can't revert back to vga for that sort of data throughput...

Are you sure? The guys at 120hz.net claim 120hz works fine on the "overclockable" catleaps at 2560X1440, 27", with dual DVI if you have the right graphics card and drivers.

I assume the guys behind that Overlord monitor mentioned in another thread do too.

Dual DVI can do much more, the issue has more to do with video drivers.

But VGA to CRT Monitors has always handled much higher resolutions and refresh rates with the same gfx drivers, so surely the issue is with the Dual DVI capacity?

Comming from a 2233rz is this worth it?
My main problem with 2233rz is the colors. I simply can't play dark games (well, everyone has this problem when you are coming from a CRT I guess.)

Should be a noticeable difference to your old Samsung but it won't solve your dark gams problem. You need an IPS panel for that, but those are 60Hz and slightly slightly higher input lag than TNs like this Asus one.

Two things that makes the 1ms pixel response a very noticeable improvement on the BENQ. It is very clearly noticeably better than 2ms panels in the PixPerAn test.

(1) LightBoost can bypass pixel persistence as the limiting factor for motion blur. The strobe backlight is turned off while waiting for pixel persistence. The backlight is strobed when the pixel is finished transiting. 1000fps High speed video proof:

The BENQ actually erases pixel persistence much more completely before the backlight strobe -- about 5 to 10 times better than the ASUS. As a result, there is zero 3D glasses crosstalk on the BENQ XL2411T, and the LightBoost zero motion blur is amazingly good. (LightBoost gives you approximately "480Hz-like" equivalence without the input lag of Sony Motionflow XR 480 found in high end HDTV's) The strobe backlight can flash for shorter periods than the pixel persistence itself, during a different part of a refresh.

When I enable LightBoost on the BENQ XL2411T, this happens:
-- All ghosting disappears
-- All coronas disappears
-- Motion blur disappears. No longer detectable by human eye (75% less motion blur than regular 120Hz)
-- No trailing artifacts at all!
-- No visible 3D shutter glasses crosstalk!
-- It's like a CRT in motion clarity
-- PixPerAn Text speed 30 -- the coveted CRT motion quality.
-- PixPerAn "I NEED MORE SOCKS" perfectly clear on PixPerAn car at fast speeds (960 pixels/second) -- the coveted CRT motion quality.
-- Pixel persistence is completely bypassed by keeping pixel persistence in total darkness.

(2) I can tell you up front, I'm impressed -- the 1ms pixel response actually made a big difference with the PixPerAn car. Especially when enabling LightBoost.

Of course, I needed to do the Crimson Tint Fix on the BENQ XL2411T, for better colors. (nVidia RGB Contrast = 30%,45%,30%, nVidia RGB Brightness = 10%,40%,10%, Gamma = 1.10 for all channels)

I appreciate the information as I'm a big tech enthusiast regarding perfect setup, ie. lagless monitor and mouse/keyboard. I am kind of excited LCd finally caught up to CRT, if it was by the driving force of 3D anyways. This is again a milestone for serious gamers.

Sadly I don't have time for gaming much these days, else I would be getting on of these monitors and an lightboost compatible graphics card in a heartbeat. Atm I own a 2233rz, it makes LCD gaming bearable ;)

The specs in your link are for teh 27" 144Hz monitor, not the 24" which is 1ms.

XL2411T and VG248QE are exactly the same thing. They use the same panel and are identical apart from extra processing (which all of us should be disabling to get zero lag anyway). Any differences you think exist are just natural variations or people not testing properly.

VG248 has DP, XL2411 has dsub.

except monitor (xl2410t) and ram (8Gb), i had the same configuration and rock steady 125fps.

edit: just googled it, maybe this applies to you:

my HD 6950 is around 33-35°C in idle (desktop, surfing) on 120Hz, and when i switch it to 144Hz it instantly goes to 42-45°C (in a matter of 5-15 sec)

My GTX 580 seems to be running a bit hotter now in idle, and doesn't downclock since changing to this monitor recently. Is this normal?

Yes, if you're running 144 hz, your video card won't downclock all the way; it needs GPU power to run 144hz properly.

so, it works with 580 and it worked for me.
should not be GPU issue, 6950 ~ 580

maybe it's overheating, I'll check that out. On the other hand I don't really need 144 that drastically - I haven't noticed much difference.

somewhat on topic, but needs to be said imo:

viewing angles on a 24" TN is are quite bad tbh. not talking about looking from sides, but direct.

i know gaming monitors prioritys are not color reproduction and image quality, but viewing angle ( and brightness distribution) are quite noticeable in everyday use.

i don't understand your point:
sure i can notice that from sides, but TN monitors don't fit for this purpose, imo.
if you work/play alone on your monitors, why arranging them with a 30+ degrees angle?
edit: if you follow safety rules it should be ok, otherwise i would worry about health more than viewing angle.

i'm saying that imo 24" is to big for a TN monitor.
reason being that (with safety rules in mind:)) there is a noticeable change in color and brightness from top to bottom and side to side on a 24" monitor.

Not saying thats a crucial thing, but should be considered while purchasing. Again, i know i'm going a bit off topic, but when ppl are considering 27" TN monitors think it at least needs to be pointed out.

those rules are still valid for things such keeping your spine straight, avoid eyestrain (breaks every X mins, good illumination, ...), that's why i wouldn't update them.

- if i were asked to design a fast panel, i wouldn't go for IPS.
- i don't see a single winner for the "monitor race", but the most suitable technology for a required application or performance. IPS will still be slower than LCD but they will have better colors/angles, etc... until a better (read it as cheaper for mass production) technology, as oled comes out
- why not IPS qdled @ 150Hz, 100us response time, ...?
- also: LCDs performance has grown up since the technology (materials, building blocks and devices) have changed. it's the same thing as comparing a cd-rom with a blue ray.

I'm noticing massive screen tearing that I PRESUME it's some sort of VSYNC issue.

When I move my mouse up/down it's much much smoother than left right.

Moving my mouse left right looks like I have 50hz at best.

125 FPS constant, am I just losing it or is there a way to enable more fluid left/right movement?

edit: screen tearing is gone when I plug in my other 60hz display o.O

edit: 144hz / r_displayRefresh 144 is causing me some screen tearing, 120 / 120 works ok

I'm assuming the screen tearing you were having was a result of a a mismatch between frame rate and refresh rate.

It was caused because I had too many screens plugged in and the card couldn't handle it : D

oh maybe it's different on a lcd than on a CRT ?

cause on my CRT, and not only from my own experience, if you have 100hz 100 or 200 or 300 fps there is less tearing. Same for 120hz and 120fps.

i can't see much of a difference, when i'm using either 125 or 120 fps on my 120hz LCD. 250fps on the otherhand looks better tearingwise than everything else.

This makes sense from what I know about displays and vsync etc.... but for some reason I have always found that setting monitor refresh rate to match max framerate in Quake always seem to have the least screen tearing as He4rTL3sS said.

It is my understanding that there should still be some screen tearing but that it will be in the same place every refresh.

The other framerates that work well are always multiples of the refresh rate, so for 60hz its either 60fps or 120fps, and with 120hz, 120fps or 240fps.

I have a 120hz monitor and I cannot see a difference between 120 (125) fps and 240 (250) fps.

Have you tried Lightboost? If so, how does it compare to 144hz non-lightboost?

I'll be the first to admit that I can hardly hear a difference between VBR320kbps mp3 and a FLAC, same goes for lightboost on/off

There could be a difference but honestly, those numbers are so small and so marginal, the majority of people won't notice it.

Pick either and you'll be fine, the only thing worth mentioning is that LightBoost increases input lag but reduces ghosting.
