I've been playing this map a bit the last few days, really enjoy it so far. I'm not 100% sure all the spawns are as perfect as they can be (especially around red room) but other than that I like it!

On a side note, i've found a few texture/clipping issues, nothing major as they are not really in regular parts of the map, can they be ironed out with a quick fix by ID/Yellack/akm?

I'm 99% sure there are different spawns shown to those on the spawn vis. There is a spawn at the 25hp in RA room, but I think there is one above the 25hp somewhere too?

Also, what are the spawn points in the white bits of the map? I've always ben so confused with the spawn vis maps :D

On the positive side, they can be fixed. The map itself, layout and concept is really nice imo. As you say though, a few spawn alterations are needed, and after that Sinister would be a perfect candidate to be added to the competitive map pool.

Big thanks to Targetquake for hosting the event, PYTON for streaming too. A good turnout (both players and spectators) again too!

I've just watched few games and honestly I cant see many positive things about this map. There are a couple of bright moments (for example av3k's rail on evil was $$$) and it definitely has potential to be a good map, but:

- too big
- too many clumsy moves required to move around the map, hence no flow at all
- main room with ra is too big to make it a 1 minute rail spawn, there was a moment in the final where evil, being the only one with rail, was able to shot 4 times before av3k was able to hide (thats completely an anti-quake thing!!!)
- seems more like a ca map (Asylum, Quarantine style)
- not sure about this one but I guess it might be very easy to pull off a really retarded +back

And I've already asked that but no one answered: how the fuck can it be compared to aerowalk? can't see not even a single similarity tbh

I agree to all points but first. We have enough small maps. Latest big map is... t7 and meanwhile we had tox, hektik and silence. At least tox has 4 items.

It seems like a nice map but I agree certain aspects (size) slow the game down. Maybe:

1) The teleporters between the Mega and Red areas should be brought closer in - I mean by this that the one near the Mega, should just be where the entrance to the corridor that you have to turn into to get to the teleporter. This would allow players out of control to teleport in and out quickly railing at the mega pickup, and slow the other player down enough to allow them to teleport back and grab the red.

2) Also as much as I like the rail gimmick - I think it should spawn as normal. The idea could be brought back on a different map where it suits better...

3) The corridor between the top of the Mega jumpad and the Red area should have a barred window in to allow railing the Red pickup.

4) To allow (3) above the the partition between the corridor and the Red area needs to be narrower, so this might require moving entire sections of the map slightly in a bit, but that would also make the map slightly smaller in numerous areas which I think would also help a bit...

But suggestions from those players that took part in the Cup might be more relevant - just my 5 pence... Otherwise very nice looking map :D

the cup just couldnt get any better, as for map, imo, theres a tiny place for improvements)

1) weapon balance.
hit-scans are imba now. the only thing you could effectively do with RL on this map, is to defend YA. you cannot attack RA, MH, and you cannot even do much damage with RL on them, like you could bombing RA on dm13 or MH on battleforge.

possible solutions:
- make MH area MUCH smaller, so that it would at least equalize RL and shaft there. and the entrance from RG is wide as shit.
- make that you could hit the enemy on RA through platform. it could even throw camping enemy down.
- make the stairs to RA thinner, so you could defend it with RL.
- reduce the shaft ammunition on the map? maybe, even radically - theres only 100 cells you get with shaft.(or make it 150 from the start and no ammo on the map)

2) too easy to stay in control
- add one more green armor to the second floor near the railing window - so you will not only shoot while the enemy in control is fulfilling his stack, but have an armor of your own.
- let the player not in control know when some of key items spawn - some other type of sound could appear in like 5 seconds before it appears. the sounds are benchmark of this map, why not play more with it?

Make railspawn and shell amount normal and it should be good.

not every single new map should be added to the official pools, and it's not like there's a shortage of duel maps in ql anyway (there's at least 10 better ones than sinister)

I think that any new map that is good for dueling should enter the rotation. There have been so many discussions about this and the point has always been: we do not have "good new maps". I think sinister can be one of those, possibly with a few fixes.

Posted this in the "Sinister update in-coming" thread, but want to post it again:


There is still a lack of potential traps to set up, and because the geometry is so open you can easily hear or see which position/route your opponent has taken making it almost impossible to throw the opponent off tactically.


I would like to see the rail spawn time being changed from 60 seconds to 25-35 seconds making it clash more often with the other items spawning thus forcing the player in control to have to choose between the rail and one of the major items more often.

A few suggestions: I would personally like to see the geometry around the RA tweaked a bit to allow for more possible traps to be set up, having the RA on a separate pillar so that people need to jump to it and thus can also be lg'd off/etc. To have the sound radius reduced if possible (you can hear GA pickup from RA and vice versa) and to add an additional GA/YA or some shards placed further away from the RA/MH to give the player out of control an easier time stacking up. Adding another teleporter or two to allow for more possible routes to take would also spice things up as its very easy to keep track of the enemy's position ATM, rewarding safe play too heavily as a result and lacking reward for risk taking.

I'm sorry if I sound too critical, I appreciate the work Yellack and akm have put into this map. They have also created one of the better TDM maps in QL and are obviously very skilled mappers. I think that due to QL's nerfed weapon damage it's much more challenging to make a slower-paced, "tactical" duel map work in QL. Out of the all the larger/slower duel maps made for QL only T7 and silence been able to work out.
