These days a definitive quake2 starter has to have everything in it. There's absolutely no point in releasing the 999th different version that weights nothing (dl in 1 second).

In other words, it should include all most played mods and maps, high res textures, decent cfg, etc. Lets say an improved version of careem's starter that's 500megs instead of 8, plus downloadable separate addons that are comprehensive as well (for example "action" 1gb. Don't have to download anything else ever)
It should include some sp content too since there are some maps that have mp potential, like the first 3 (demo) and the last one.

btw aren't the maps, textures, etc. licensed?

There are certainly other packages out there that include extra content, and that's fine, but I really wanted to focus on the essentials, remain faithful to Quake 2's original appearance and to minimize download time.

And yes, content from the demo (such as maps and textures) are licensed, but as I've stated in my original post, the installer separately downloads official game content from the original Quake 2 demo and point release archives (even from id Software's own FTP server) and are not bundled with the installer itself.

Quake 2 has a chaingun. Ergo no need for lg. Actually prefer q2 cause it requires more effort and more leading the target. Why should every round winner be determined by most skilled lg whore?

Quake2 actually has a "lg", it's called PLASMA BEAM! It's the most powerful weapon in all q2(q2 + mission packs), same like regular LG but without weakness of losing range at shots in the distance. The "quake2's lg" have infinite range!!

Does this works with single player Q2 and it's expansions too? i am searching something that could allow me to play the fantastic q2 single player again but without mouse acceleration. Was my favorite Quake.

The single player game is functional, but there is no support for music or cinematics. To play the full version single player game you need the retail pak0.pak file (from the \baseq2 subfolder, 175MB in size), otherwise only the single player demo is available. Unfortunately there isn't much support for the expansion packs, and the included Q2 client only supports saving games from the original game.
