It'd mean that players would have to practice 11 maps in total, which is rather impossible.

Player A elims first map, Player B second, Player A - etc, etc, etc..
So players anyway remove maps that they don't want to play or not practice, but the choice will be more intresting, it'll be nice for both players and spectators.

I find that highly unlikely, cause when the opponent removed the two or three maps *you* play, you are still forced to play on a map that you've not practiced. And then rage ensues cause "shit map" etc.

I'm in favor of random maps, this way we'll have more drama -players complaining abt their bad luck xD

There's no way you can play competitively with such a big map pool and there's no way stream can offer interesting games on maps which players aren't used to play at all (e.g t2)

Why not rotate more?
Keep the most played core maps (ztn, aero, t7) and add 2 different maps to these every week. Check which mappool gets the most signups.

For me i love new maps, its just that a basic rule in mapmaking is to not make a predominant color, the same color as the default enemy model, unless it is a camouflage game.

There still isn't a purple duel map in QL, and the purple tinted version of silence that cityy showed me once looked gorgeous... He prepared it shortly after the map's introduction and the whole debate about green maps. Plus purple is the "opposite" of green.

imho keep the 3 slower ones t7, ztn, dm13 in and rotate 4 new/fast maps additionally every 1-2 months, but don't give daily cups a different pool to Sunday, because, you said it yourself, it's hard to adjust to new maps

Sinister IMHO might be the long waited candidate to replace dm6, as the only non-garbage duel map coming out recently. Toxicity and Hektik are both clusterfuck and just ROFL on Silence the green color theme is the biggest map designing failure in Quakes history.

Sinister isnt too big, isnt too slow neither too stuffed with armors. Currently it is like what pro-q3tourney4 was (not the QL version), just double the size (half the pace). Would be interesting to try 30s rail spawntime and 2mins mega (that would be dope imo, but its great also as it is currently).

For an 5 map pool i'd use: ZTN, DM13, T7, AERO, Sinister, but that might be a bit leaning toward brainplay (sorry stupid guys learn2think). For a 7 pool toss in 2 of the remaining 3 (personally i dont care but Toxicity and Hektik would make more sense or -Hektik +Silence if its ever get fixed).

Removing ZTN is the worst idea: simply its just _the_ duel map. Also the thing is most players know only a few maps, not all and its unrealistic to expect them to learn 4-5 maps, especially the ones might get booted in weeks. If theres like only 1-2 maps in the cup they know out of 7, they probably just wont bother signing up. I understand aspiring new players need to have a fair chance, but theres a lot other maps to remove, ZTN is simply just the _fundamental_ of Quake dueling.

It appears to me that the 'too green blaablaablaa' is just another excuse to not learn a new map or to just make it misery for oneself. First off i don't mind playing any map structurally(yes even silence) , heck they can put thunderstruck or eye2eye in there and i will play.

The way i trained to react my aim is more based on color(green) then movement, the arguments u used about items, don't make much sense, since i don't use simple items and even green armor is much darker then default armor.

Changing a color i am used to aiming for years to something else, is just ..., no offense, i tried it and so did others, doesn't work, and if i go back(on another map) then it is mind fuck twice.

I would prefer to change it to purple like was said previously then remove it, it is a shame to let a well structured and designed map by cityy put to waste, because of the unfortunate color choice.

Until then veto it is, in fact read the previous comments, there is a reason it came first in the faceit pool to be removed, then hektik and hektik has much worse structure, but i can live with it.

Well I have some kind of an original idea I guess regarding the maps choice system.
Make the maps choice system more complex, tying one event with another, like this: let at first all the maps go on on here, then keep records on the performance of every player in these cups and set the maps that will be played based on their record. For instance let's say that I lost 80% of my t7 maps on the last two events with the frag difference of at least 10 frags, the 3rd time I will play the system will automatically drop the map from the list -in my case, not from the entire competition, of course. Also if a player lost his last 2 cups on every map he played then or acted bad in general to his 3rd participation the system will automatically let him choose maps, instead using the drop/drop procedure. The guy who won't participate on every cup will obviously be in disadvantage, because the maps system will count the records and not the lack of them.
It would also be interesting I guess as most pro players will have the opportunity to deduct in advance what maps will they play against various opponents and will have time to prepare on these maps.

I'm not sure if you are trolling or what. But I agree on the point that in the first rounds, if the skill difference is very big, the lower skilled player should be able to chose tha map.
It won't rly matter on the outcom of the game, but maybe the lower skilled player will have some more fun.

who played aganst me, lot years in cups , few first round , I always give players to pick map from mappool, whatever he wants.
1. It's more fun for nooby players.
2. noobies mostly playing 1-2 maps, so they can show they actual level.
3. If my self can't beat noobie in MAPPOOL map, I don't deserve next round fights.

Lets not forget our beloved classics, intense and witty as hell, like t2, t4, dm6, t9 for instance. Maybe include them one by one in the mappool rotation, like previously mentioned, or implement some "Legendary oldskool maps" tourney from time to time?

As they say here in Russia - 'everything new is well forgotten old'.

New maps are fun, no doubt, but look at crazy solid performance (and immense fun for viewers at that) of top Quake gladiators back in the days on one-of-a-kind Proving Grounds, Campgrounds or Vertical Vengeance - every demo u watch is like the essence of awesomeness.

Maybe only the highlight matches might come to mind (like cooller-strenx t4 at iem11, or cooller-rapha dm6 at iem10 finals. also Lexer-chaoticz infinite epicness), but in fact - every classic map is a multi-facet experience.

When it were zotac times, lots of whiny esr-people were complaining about, for example, dm13 'slow-plusback' mood (which were not true even in Rapha-Cooller cases, because their matches were the games of wits and nerves, tense like 'catch me if u can' flick), but then we've seen Stermy's or, let's say, Evil's piledriver-style domination and suddenly those esr whiners switched to whining over some other maps.

What I'm saying is - classic maps are multi-faceted, multi-layered experience, where healthy nerve and mind will come up with his own strat to fit his style. Tactical joy to play, fun to watch and pleasure to analyze for any decent brain owner.

And THAT, my friend, is what QL is about.

Maybe u can say the same for the new pool (hek, tox, sil, sin, etc.). 'Maybe' is the correct word here for now.

Those maps were great because of the players. Unfortunately, most of them are long gone. There are now new faces who can offer new things on newer maps.

sorry Roy, but those maps r great by themselves, independent of players, and the maps r 'long gone' because orgs and devs r listening to a bunch of whiny schoolboys of internets, hence - 80% rail, no gibs and no brilliant maps of q3a era. Bro, FaceIt can at least cure the classic maps absence. As for new faces - u can obviously see how awesome these new faces can perform on such totally ancient (but still incredible) maps like ztn or dm13.

Those maps were great in Quake 3. The spawns are terrible in QL.

The skill and the depth that has been accumulated on the maps with the time played and the number of players who played on these maps made these maps alive, who were transforming over and over again or better said interacting with the players in the mixed combination of each player's quality + the map's violent personality.
To say that these maps are just simply maps with bad spawn system is an unspeakable sacrilege.

He always has very interesting thoughts about everything involving Quake, knows the community and the code and thinks how those two can meet.

I realized thoughout the show how difficult it was for me to have that "excitement" in the voice and really build up the tension. DDK seemed able to do it effortlessly. I wonder if it's something one is born with (as part of how the voice sounds), or one can just practice it and improve it. A little bit of both, I guess. So I just tried to stick to some analysis of the game, which ofc only gets me so far, as I am not the most skilled of the duelers.

Anyways if you guys have more feedback, on what was good and what was bad, I can try to work a bit on it. I'm also ok with the fact that for some people I simply do not sound right. Chemistry works that way sometimes. But anyways, thanks for the feedback!

P.S. How about showing brackets(at least 1/16 and later) on stream itself between the games? half of people can't view them not being registered/logged in on faceit and it's not like looking at 2 commentators' faces for the whole pause is any better

- I'm in a browser where Faceit works, but need like 2 minutes to find the tournament and its brackets, because it's not exposed anywhere.

The GD Studio's Arena did this right, they have bracket overlay they can quickly show between games.

You click the QL logo, click the correct tournament and click the bracket button in the left bottom.

But I don't know which one it is, and maybe now that's fixed, but in the past, tournaments in progress were pushed down on the list or whatever, so I've seen only upcoming tournaments. So I used to check the right side of the dashboard, where there was stuff like "Cooller signed up for Tournament X" and click from there. Kinky!

Oh wait, you don't even know about this, because you sign up for all tournaments, so they're easily accessible to you, unlike normal visitors to the site.

PS. They're showing bracket on stream now, IT WORKED! \o/

I suggest you check the website, since it is beta and we fix things frequently. As you could have seen, had you taken the effort, the tournament is on top of the upcoming tournament list :)

THIS. This highlights the problem. Get the player demos. All of them. Stop players releasing them themselves (or not if you don't want to be hardasses), host them on faceit rather than ESR. You are diluting your brand (which is quite good) by doing everything on ESR rather than your site. But make sure you actually get the demos.

Link to your stuff from here by all means, but don't run it from esr.

I am sure you would get traffic for the cooler loss demo.

Currently faceit is 100% about the stream, which is awesome, so so awesome. However I think you are seriously missing exposure by capitalising on written content, player demos, plays of the week (you did it for sunday, wd) and so on.

So after typing the above I created an account and can see what you are aiming for with the logged in state for players. However the non players are a large part too.

Grab their email when the first visit and then send an email when semis are starting (or when key games are occurring - eg casting cooler). Link to the stream, link to your faceit.com.

Get that traffic. I am going to send you traffic when Fraze gets to the semi finals next time. As much traffic as possible at 8am on a Friday morning here :D

Hi,

FACEIT and FACEIT TV are basically two different entities. FACEIT TV serves the FACEIT platform, by creating hype around it, spreading the word and introducing it. If you would login and fill in your QL ID on your profile, you will be able to see a QL logo on the frontpage. This gives you an overview of all tournaments that are going on.

FACEIT is a platform about tournaments. You can do this once you register, obviously, otherwise it is hard to keep track of things. As we are still in beta, this is our main focus to make sure it works properly. Once this is done, then we might be able to look into creating a place where we can spread news regarding tournaments. But thus far using ESReality as an outlet has proved to work excellent.

Sending emails when semi finals are reached might be something you are interested in, but 99% of our other users will find it annoying (sending frequent emails out has been testing by many, many others).

sending mails is so 2000. Now that we have social media such as twitter and facebook why would we bother with mails :D

We focus on the main browsers for now, Safari, Chrome and Firefox. They work on all if you have updated versions. Also, if you use the new Twitch layout, you do have the link to the bracket.

I only used timenudge in q3... In QL I never liked the feeling, and I guess you'd need to constantly tweak it and what not. I chose not to interfere with this :)

I did not use timenudge for years. Then some highping rail-nudgers (I'm sure they used it) got on my nervers. Then I first had timnudge -40 and now autotimenudge. I openly admit it :D

does it work ? Any idea if other ppl like evil pavel strenx etc use it ?

from my experience i usually do this:
basically look at your lagometer and use cl_timenudge = - (minimal ping on lagometer / 2). For example if ping on lagometer is jumping between 32 and 40 then use cl_timenudge -16

if the ping is 40-50 or so use cl_timenudge -20
if the ping is above 50ms just use cl_autotimenudge 1
some people just use cl_timenudge -20 with high pings, but autotimenudge is more effective in my experience.

P.S. cl_autotimenudge 1 formula is basically automatically putting timenudge = -ping/2 and therefore letting more than -20 values with pings over 40ms

if you have to play pavel on a high ping it will probably help. but you need to get used to it.

btw you can easily check if a player is using timenudge or not when speccing him. A timenudge user will have 10-20ms lower ping values on lagometer than on scoreboard depending on timenudge value
