tarantino is a king of popculture... his ability to mix it, and show in a funny and interesting way is pure genious... however, django wasnt his best movie imo...
no disputing Django wasn't his best movie. Tarantino's best as a Director is obviously Pulp Fiction. His best as a writer is True Romance. Also, one of his greatest in my opinion is his addition to the movie Four Rooms... The Man From Hollywood was the best segment.
So "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil" (2010) was the last good movie made? If that's the case, we clearly have different thoughts on what constitutes a "good" movie...
Where did i state that "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil" is the last good movie made? From the top of my head i suggested a comedy that made me smirk at some points.
I've seen Argo, Skyfall, Dredd, Ted, Flight and The Bourne Legacy. None of them are good imo, some are watchable and especially Bourne was a huge dissapointment. Skywall was probably worse than Bourne but the earlier 3 Bourne movies are just so much better than anything in the recent Bond franchise so the expectations were a bit higher.
Im with juvenile delinquency, there hasnt been a truly good movie in the last couple of years that I've seen and I could think of right now
I actually liked Argo, Dredd and Skyfall. I like the direction that Bond movies have taken recently and Skyfall was a good one. With Argo I wasn't very familiar with the subject matter and enjoyed the movie a lot although it may be linked to the fact, that I watched it in the cinema and I tend to like movies better that way. With Dredd: I fucking love the source material (Dredd looking like he smells shit all the time and the rest of the stuff) and I think they actually pulled it of well. And the slow-mo didn't feel overused nor like a gimmick, because it was implemented as an effect of using certain drug in the movie and the whole thing made sense to me. I recommend all 3 mentiones.
None of them are good? Is that to say they were all "bad" movies? Geez, I wonder what you would consider a "good" movie then? It must be a cruel world for you (as a movie goer) since only once in a few years is there an actually entertaining movie to be seen.
Skyfall worse than Bourne Legacy? The first half of Bourne was quite good until they got to Malaysia and then it was one long, boring chase scene with an anticlimactic ending with laughable special effects. At least Skyfall had an interesting story from start to finish, had an excellent actor for the main villain, well made action sequences, and was generally well made throughout the entire film. It wasn't "superb", but it was hardly bad. Bourne had major sections of the film thrown together DURING production. My brother worked on Bourne Legacy and I knew it was going to be a disappointment (based on what he was telling me). It was not a "bad" movie but it certainly was not as good as the first Bourne movie.
if a movie isnt good it doesnt mean its bad either. they just werent good, they were averageish at best. a good movie is a movie that i dont forget right after i've seen it, a movie that i know i want to watch again.
The first half of Bourne was quite good until they got to Malaysia and then it was one long, boring chase scene with an anticlimactic ending with laughable special effects.
well, ive just watched too much movies in the last weeks and also watched the older ones. L.A. confidential vs Dredd? compare theese 2 films and u see a true quality difference.
and skyfall....i have to say compared to the last 2 bonds this film was fucking shit (banal dialogs, no new technology weapons - every bond fan wants to see this shit). i was very disappointed.
in my opinion that is not the way to rate movies. You cannot view movies and compare them with movies outside their genre or class. It would be silly to compare a movie like Rear Window with Casa Blanca or Blazing Saddles with Seven Samurai. All four of those movies are great films and classics but are incomparable.
Instead, for the genre, you see what makes a good thriller, drama, action, comedy, etc., and judge it accordingly. And for class, some movies are intentionally "A" movies and others "C" movies. Like a Fincher film is usually intended to be an A film that takes its self seriously while a Tarantino film does not. Edgar Wright makes some pretty good films, but I do not compare his movies with Scorcese when I watch them. It is like comparing apples to oranges.
well a good film has drama, action, comedy in it. but yeah, seems u r more into film like me because i dont know fincher either edgar wright.
but well, the dialogs in dredd...when i hear them i could puke.
I will defend Dredd, because it is as faithful of an adaptation as it gets. and you sort of need to be familiar with the source material to fully get the tone and setting they were going for.
ye i saw it too. if you like documentaries, another one i watched recently is Breaking the taboo(it's about the failure of war on drugs).
it's free but not available on youtube anymore, not sure why. http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/7899140/Breaki..._1080p_mp4
I freaking love documentaries. 3 out of the 11 films that I gave max rating on imdb are documentaries. (the Pirate Bay one, the Banksy film and Man on Wire). + Other 3 that are based on true stories (United 93, 127 Hours, Alpha Dog).
Haven't seen this one yet, but added it to the watchlist, thank you! :)
I saw it and even though I found it interesting to learn about how the events unfold, I'd like to say that I thought the documentary was an astoundingly horrible piece of shit... I seriously believe it to be one of the most boring documentaries/films I've ever watched.
Attributed mostly to the editing, music, and the terrific fail attempts at trying to show tension in situations where there really wasn't any... just a bunch of nerds raging at the copyright toys.
I do compliment the informational aspect of the documentary quite a bit since I believe this copyright mirage of shit to be a serious issue.
Not really, I probably couldn't give any less of a fuck about any of this. My conclusion is that all dem nerds should die and rot in cambodian prisons from hell for the rest of their miserable and pathetic lives.
Especially that Gottfrid shitty... j35u5 C|-|R157 what a fucking shitty
Well yeah, I'm a bit biased because I'm more involved with this topic, I love TPB, my political views are also the closest to the Pirate Party, but I liked the fact that the movie was not 100% one-sided, it had room for other opinions, showed the dissidence between the TPB members too.
It didn't go too deep into the subject, but I was still satisfied with the result. I had really high expectations for the film, and that mostly brings disappointment, but in this case it didn't. At least for me. :)
you should watch Sound City Ins. It's a Dave Grohl documentary following the Sound City studio's and the legendary Neve console history. Good slice of a rock history and a great documentary alltogether if you're into rock and roll. oh yeah and the fucking soundtrack is mind blowing

FINALLY Seven Psychopaths gets mentioned. And I love Sam Rockwell too, great actor. I suggest you watch The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford if you haven't already! :-)
totally agree. i did not know what to expect when I watched the movie. i read the imdb article (the storyline) and that was it. dont watch the trailer (of any movie for that matter, only teaser are good imho).
True. It reminds me a bit of the old Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. Quiet anti-hero who stumbles into a fucked situation and ends up doing the "right" thing.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World and God bless America were the last two Comedys that made a Lasting Impression. They are no pure Comedy though, more like a Drama/Comedy mixture.
The Campaign was a pretty terrible movie but it definitely made me laugh more than most comedies recently. End of watch I though was pretty good, not really much to it but the cop behavior in the movie was pretty funny and entertaining at times. Django was pretty decent, not amazing and too long but better than most other shit to come out past couple years. This thread pretty much summed it up, nothing amazing has come out in quite a while. Oh and seven psychopaths was pretty entertaining...I recently watched Stand Up Guys and it was okay, kind of disappointing though.
