I don't think there is an issue.

The usb specification supports 1000 Hz, it's just that the decision was made to make 125 the default since it was plenty of most applications and it was easier on the CPU.

You don't need to worry about the keyboard, because its status isn't read by polling.

There is *no* danger doing that, the only thing that can happen is either your cpu taking a small performance hit ( virtually inexistant at 500hz ) and/or random peripherals being confused if they're plugged on the same usb port.

That's only true if it's an N-key rollover keyboard (to be able to press any key simultaneously or X-key rollover where X is a value of keys you can press at the same time). Cheap keyboards sometimes can only do 2-key rollover and in that case you are screwed if you press 3 buttons at the same time.

well, it still makes a difference in 6kro vs nkro with the steelseries 6gv2 i own even if input lag turns out not to be an issue.

Modern mobos include rather sub par external PS/2 controllers.

Native USB2.0 on Intel chipsets is rather stable these days.

Correct. Mainly when I'm dodging spastically so it's not that obvious. Touchpad is on ps/2 anyway.
