Finnegans instead of c2 and cold cathode in, both of the maps received 0 play time in ql so it'd be nice to try them out.

I read another wga member post about having 5 different channels hit 21k twitch page hits after adding the numbers up. and how that was going to help get them sponsors to net $1k prize momey for each game mode. how is that possible? What sponsors r u guys talking to. it just doesnt seem realistic to me. sorry to bring down the mood

Well the 4 channels I see already have a total of about 5k. Knowing that they got that with a much less ambitious first league, 21k doesn't sound that unrealistic. I am skeptical about the prize money too, though.

We are negotiating with 4 sponsors at the moment. The more people that sign up and the more participation we get from the members, the better the league will be. You must understand that sponsors want numbers and participation and players want prize money and prizes. We have to show them that we are a united league and that our QL community supports our game, its mods and its sponsors.
With securing sponsors for the WGA we will be able to do this every year and make this the yearly event in QL...with a World Champion in every division.
We are here for the players, we dont make any money from this. We merely have a passion for the game and dont want to see the game decline in numbers.
The map pool can be modified. It is not carved in stone. Before the league starts we will hold team captains meetings to discuss the map pools and make any adjustments needed.

Any news about group/division split for TDM? I told you some time ago why CB system sucks (if you aim for player activity), I hope you're going for leagues + playoffs?

Another thing is 7 map pool for TDM (with Intervention and no Terminatria, but others have mentioned that). Does that mean drop-drop? (I'd love pick-pick because we're an active clan that knows the new maps. If you think you can make inactive clans play thanks to drop-drop picking system, my experience shows you're wrong.)

PS. Can you remove the restriction on 4+ letter nicks? The clan was registered by our leader, but I'm the war arranger, could use an account myself.

The link only works when you are registered, hence it's step 3. Otherwise you can find it under the dropdown menu 'league' and then clan registration. As for your other questions, I will provide an answer asap.

UPDATE! Yes we will split up the signups into divisions for sure. Regarding the league system, I think that we can agree on this point too. Lastly, the map-pick procedure for TDM will very likely be pick-pick in the playoffs. In the groups, we have home-away games. This means that everyone needs to play each other twice, the home team will be picking 2 maps, whereas the away team 1

I am glad that you see it this way :) Personally I wouldn't care much for the prizemoney either. However, if we can increase the activity-level with it, then I guess that is what we should at least try to go for.

I think league structure that encourages more teams to be more active and get more decent games out of it is more important than trying to animate few oldschoolers (enticing them with money prizes).

OTOH, money prizes usually means more coverage around these pages and in talks between players, so it can be useful device to crank up the activity. And that's always good :)

I'm looking to get cold cathode updated and the changes tested soon. I hope it will be suitable for the CTF map pool when we are done with it.

Look for your groups one should be WGA members and the should be the clan. If you are looking for roster they have to be added by hand. Your patience is appreciated

I have no problem finding my group, but its not the group you sign up for the leagues as i see it. When i signed up for the league i had to fill out clan name, roster and other stuff, but cant see a confirmation or list of signed up teams, so you have no idea if you did it successfully :)

Yea well.. imo thats not enough confirmation. Either you need to recive an email that confirms it (and you typed email in twice allready), or there should be a page wich displays signed up teams. If you miss that confirmation there is now, you have no idea if youre signed up or not.

Also, what I already asked on IRC, but got no reply, seeing how you plan to have "world champions", does that mean a LAN is intended for each mode to finish off the season? I don't see any other way how we could get a world champion, unless you plan on doing it the fatality way (win a local tournament, count it as 12 world championships).

True.. pings will be difficult to work with, but either way pings will improve. Last seasons were avg 100-150 from what I remember.. not a train wreck.
If low player participation > little to no sponsors > no central WC location (flying teams to one spot)
If good player participation > sponsors follow > greater possibility of a central WC location.
Plus it may not seem like it, but internet speeds are improving, and decent pings are just around the corner.

I think they have good intentions but their goals seem unrealistic. their big stat for sponsors is 17k page hits for all 5 of their twitch streams combined. thats not a lot. specially to net $1k prize for each game mode.

Last season, the Europeans and Americans competed through VPN and has pings between 100-150. I don't see this working out too well with East Coast NA playing Aussie or Asia, nor Europe playing either of those. I think out best option may be to have Aussie / New Zealand play against Asia and NA against Europe and have 2 champions.

100-150 ping isnt really very good though for competive play, the only way this sorta comp would work is having each region have champion teams and them all going to a lan somewhere

It is not the best for competitive play, but there certainly was a pre-broadband era, and it's really not a terrible compromise. It may not be ideal, but I really don't see us having the budget this year to host a LAN. I mean yes, there is a chance, but I think that would be more realistic next season or possibly the following.

I think you're underestimating how low the player base is for freezetag. Perhaps you should take that into consideration with that statistic. I personally dealt with sharing statistics with the sponsors we've been in touch with, and must say that things are actually going better than expected.

The game for the "World Title" will be an exhibition game. This means that if the finalists at the NA and EU side decide that they are going to split up the prizemoney for the first and second spot added together, they can. In that case, they will be paid the same regardless of who wins that World Finals game.

We simply don't have the resources to go for a Lan-finale this season, perhaps the next.

Regarding the servers for that game, we will have to find a server where the average pings will be the same or we will have to make use of VPN.

Dreamhack, IEM, all got rid of quake not because of bad admins, but because players didn't give a shit, so maybe its time to start clicking those follow/like/signup buttons instead of moaning about clanbase website.

1. Viewer interest is boosted by level of participants. If you get higher skill level in a weekly cup than LAN final, something's wrong.

2. The last DreamHack had problems even filling the groups because nobody wanted to go there and play! Now that's disrespectful to the admins and sponsors...

3. I heard QL has really high player-to-viewer ratio among all the other games and it's players have unmatched ratio of buyers of pro mice/pads/monitors/whatever. We're in our 30s now, we have our own money and we're computer hardware gods among our friends / work mates. We're actually a really good market for sponsors, even if a niche one.

You're slightly off topic but I see what you're getting at. What was the number of concurrent viewers during the biggest ql only stream you can remember ? iirc it's somewhere between 6k and 8k - quakecon might be a bit higher but given it's been embedded on several gaming websites it kinda tweaks the numbers. I have a friend who streams guild wars 2 shit and gets nearly that many viewers.

The money's good when a team is flying you over there, it's alright if you know you're gonna be top4 but have to pay to go there - at least you should break even -. A weekly cup doesn't cost you or your team anything and you don't have to lock 3 days out of your schedule.

Not disrespecting the dh staff but what's the point of paying more than you know you'll be able to win to go somewhere and be STOMPED even harder than online by the people who're gonna be top8/16/32/whatever no matter what ? It makes the viewers/potential customer ratio higher than other games but as you just said, most of us are older and better informed than pretty much any other community about gear. 1. Yeah you can advertise 10k $ tournament by making it even less worth training for the people who know they're gonna be top 4.

2. It's not 2001 anymore. The early 2000's quake nerd lifestyle died a few years ago. You can either go there to play people with 30 less ping that what you usually have - back then it was more like 80 if you could play with them at all - or to hang out. If you wanna hang out and play some quake for fun, it's more cost effective to set shit up months ahead and spend a week on somebody's couch.
That's actually pretty much how it works in the qw scene, there's one "big" lan every year or so and a handful of get-togethers in scandinavia. I'm not sure it would be worth doing it in France or Germany because the communities are even smaller and that handful of people would be bored to tears by the second evening.
Not enough players. Not enough good players. Not enough people who can be bothered. It's a matter of critical mass.

from what i recall, we do not offer some kind of free trial while still asking for credit card info with the fine print hidden somewhere on page, nor do we have extra bold text highlighted in yellow.

These leagues are setup by people who have played this game for years and care about it continuing.

Please clarify how this is a "scam". Are we requesting you to pay anything upfront? At least give 1-2 arguments if you are trying to contribute something to the topic.

why 7 map pools? I assume most games best of 3 which gives it 2 excess maps in a game already. Practising 7 maps is a hard thing to do especially for team modes, 5 maps with a pick/pick system would by far be the best thing to do which has been proven in the past.

Because they add more variety to the players and teams that know best of any type of map in any game mode.
