Yes. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers gain entry to the SiU Grand Final. The winner of the previous season also gets a spot, making the total player count 10.

The last cup went ballistics, we nearly had a full bracket - something that had never happened - and the double elim with semi and finals bo5 proved to be horribly time and energy consuming. dsN's brain was overheating after playing 15ish maps in 3 or so hours. We should have a decent number of players next week too so I decided to change the format to full bo3, with only the wb vs lb finals as a double bo3 ( with a 1set advantage to the guy in wb ).

Toss toss pick pick, highest elo ( as shown in the brackets, we don't care about your elo during the cup ) tosses first, yadda yadda yadda. For the double bo3, highest elo 1set, 2nd set the other dude.
I don't know why I typed that, I'm sure I'll have to spam the rules and the mappool in irc or ingame anyway cause yall us players are dumb but hey, whatever.

Try going to ESR site preferences and selecting your timezone. It's supposed to automatically convert times, I think.

This sums up pretty much how smooth this one was until we hit semis and random delays piled up because quaketards be quaketards, server searches are always better done in a hurry - leaves more time to whine about the ping - and picking maps before playing is for european faggots.

I had no idea about that, still don't, and I don't give a flying fuck, there's a map picking process for a reason and even if they want to fuck their own game up as players - one of the reason you pick maps before a game and not *during* is because you want to pick *your* maps and not just tilt and pick something because of the outcome of the previous one - they have no right to leave the people commentating the games in the dark or the admins powerless if issues arise.
As for the third dqed player, telling me you're not gonna be able to play the finals because you have to go at 10pm or something is mighty fine, I can get around that and it was actually really nice of him to let me know more than an hour before.
When I hear the very same guy is watching the stream and when I see he's logged in ql after 10, that's when it gets shitty.
When he's actually home, not busy and tells me he won't play because "lol laptop sucks kk" he can go fuck himself. He pretty much wasted everybody's time as far as I'm concerned.

I'll also mention the troll who signed up with an account that was banned - it didn't actually show up for us when we checked his account - because I don't think I've ever seen somebody pulling that shit before during a cup.

Dip your "power rod" in acid and just let the players do the work of map choices, not some admin forcing the subject, a lot of matches were completed without you...and that is when it ran the smoothest, like I said when the players did the work.

The tournament has a winner. It even has a top3. Turns out the people I dqed would have all been top3 had they not behaved like they did.

I can either be a loving admin who takes care of all his special snowflakes or actually enforce the rules ( that are pretty much the same than in every single other cup ) and avoid us at least a dozen different clusterfucks. The random dc with no clear outcome if the players don't agree to something or the raging cunt telling me I didn't even follow my own rules being the most obvious ones. What some players want at a specific moment isn't worth shit if it doesn't help the tournament as a whole in the long run. The players who actually wanted to switch to bo3 last week because they were dying gave me shit about it a minute later. lol @ doing that with maps.
Same with servers, you don't agree to 2 servers and a cointoss to gg out of the third map then somehow try to play it on a third server you had discarded 25 minutes earlier. The beginning of this particular match was mental as well and guess what, I didn't even follow my own rules because it would have meant another 5 minutes of dead air/whine on top of the 40 minutes before that.

Yeah it sure ran great considering I can't join every game to spec the picking process when there's 3 of them going on at the same time. I must have spammed the mappool, format and picking process a dozen times in irc and at least once to most players during the first batch of matches. I still bumped into an illiterate fuck in quarters who was callvoting a cointoss to know who had to toss first and another guy asked me if it was bo1.
Most of the players indeed took care of that stuff properly, and I got to know what the picks were either because I was there when it happened, because a spec could tell me or because I asked the players in between maps. I think one of the guys even messaged me the maps ingame. Just like it should happen. Smooth as fuck, ran by the players with an admin to sort shit out if needed. Not the ones I dqed.
Still had trouble with some people not reporting their results in irc or ingame when the brackets were still packed but I don't think I've updated the brackets more than a few minutes after the games were over.

Problem with DQ'ing both finalists was that you had a BO5 final with a tournament map pool of 5 maps, aka, every map is getting played.

The player who was supposed to pick the first map simply readied instead of verbally announcing the map name.

I just want to point out something about the Step it Up cup...

I was in the cup, last time I was in there on the 20th of March, I got disqualified for being AFK for 35 minutes... HOWEVEr, I was never AFK thank you very much.... This proves that the administration of SiU are unable to handle a tournament.

On the 27th, I missed the tournament and thats my fault, but if faerie didn't take control of that tournament, the brackets would explode to a degree that it would just make it get worst...

Just checked my irc logs, you got kicked out because you were delaying your game - and the whole cup - in order to be on the stream. You were not logged in on ql when Rob decided you were out.
ctrl+f'ed 35 and I couldn't find anything except you seemingly pulling that number out of your ass - though it might have been mentionned by somebody on the stream but I'm not going to watch 30 minutes of the vod to find out.

Alright guys let's not bite the hand that feeds us quake games. He's doing a good thing for the North American duel scene. We just need to change the formatting so everything is done within 3-4 hours instead of playing till waiting till 1am to play for finals. We need to take a look at the tournament, and see why there were so many delays.

Not every games need to be streamed, only stream the ones where the matchup are less than 100 elo apart. Make the loser bracket finals bo3 instead of bo5 to prevent the winner of lower bracket to have a chance against the winner bracket finalist. Think about it using shux as an example he would have to potentially play 14 games before the finals even start. If he makes it that's another 5 maps which means 19 games x10mins = 190mins which is over 3 hours of mentally exhausting quake duels within a four hour time frame.

The only reason lb final was bo5 is because you screwed everybody by saying tou couldn't play the lb vs wb final even though you could have ( and apparently "wanted" to after I called it a night ). I had to decide between keeping it like it was meant to be a single bo3 and deny an actual finals to the players still around, make it double bo3 ( like the wb vs lb ) without advantage ( cause they're both in lb ) which is pretty retarded or a single bo5.

As for the stream : teh lulz brah. The only thing that was purposefully scheduled to be streamed was your wb finals. The rest of the games were played in parallel until then. After that it was all single games because they could only be played one at a time.
Shit ran pretty tight. Random delays in lb can be ironed out to save twenty or so minutes.
I said it was over yesterday approx. 4h20minutes in. That's far from being awful considering the early lb delays that I'd quantify at, as I said earlier, 20 minutes + the 40minutes long lb semi snorefest - 15 of those 40 minutes were a legit break - and the few minutes to get the lb finals *somewhat going*.
Holy shit that's actually 3hours. The goal is around 3h30 for the average cup.

If you want to compete in an event there is a certain protocol that players must follow. That protocol is the rules, the comments i made on stream were not warranted due to the fact that obviously I didn't have all the info, so sorry for that. Keep up the good work faerie, you are doing the right things to maintain an event. Now its up to the players to learn to read the rules and follow accordingly and play there matches in a respectable time frame.
