Do people play TDM on standard servers in Europe?

Used to. Since the rotation was introduced, less and less. But public CTF is pretty active.

I think in addition to that is the community itself, quitters, obviously not really part of the community but they belong to QL's player base. Offcourse can play pickup games, but ID should perhaps support that part more. Because I've spoken to some folks who wanted to get into TDM but the current TDMers are pushing them away. (not all of them, kudos to those who do help people out or gently tell them to practice vs bots to get to know the map)

I take it that before the rotation it was the same people over and over again. Because I remember some folks back in 2008/09, seeing them all the time. (ok I admit, might have been my dm6 addiction :))

cold war and theatre of pain are the best CA maps this month, almost lost is a bucketload of donkeywank (mainly because LOLCA-TARDS insist on playing 4v4, 5v5, 6v6, etc, which just doesn't work there)

nah those two are just too big. The Edge is an ok one even if rj-guys will +b rj in a circle all the time at top floor

Of course, cold war and theatre of pain have certain prerequisites for having ggs, which basically consists in every player knowing the map layout perfectly, and every player gravitating around the "combat zone" and only +backing if you're really low on health. These games are quite enjoyable, with no self damage allowing one to rj rapidly from one side of the map to the other in a matter of seconds.

Almost cocks on the other hand is a shitfest no matter which way you grab it.

cold war is a really good map, shame the average ca player is really really bad and requires a few years to learn it ;(

yeah but hoping for that is pretty delusional. CA is filled with guys baiting teammates for free dmg and +backing, wandering nobos, RJ guys, +B rail guys, camping fags, lowsens lg abusers who can't turn around or move, unaware guys listening to music, above average guys who'll survive every time and so on. What is realistically gonna happen in those two maps:

-You kill all the opposing team in the first 20 seconds and need the following 2 minutes to kill the last two surivors 6vs2.
-You get killed in the first 20 seconds and you'll wait the following 2 minutes watching a delusional pseudo pro player or a wandering nobo\unaware music guy (can't blame these two anyway).

Almost Lost is too little for the players to avoid the fights, it doesn't really have sides to camp succesfully and is gonna have a lot more reedom, even if ts4 is probably too many already. Plus i don't have fps-loss playing it :D.

No, it follows the same principles as Overkill, which is equally large but everyone knows where to fight, and it provides some of the best CA matches. Just wait 1 week until all the pubbers learn the maps properly and realize the aformentioned key elements required for the map to be enjoyable, and the remaining 3 weeks will be fun as fuck.

I played 8v8 CA on Theatre of Pain. I enjoyed the hell out of it, but it took 1 hour to finish. There were a lot of drawn rounds, because of people hiding. I still found it decent though because (1) I dominated, (2) what I hate about CA is dying in the first 20 seconds, but it never happened on Theatre of Pain because the map is huge and it's hard to get gangraped so fast, unless you are dumb.

It works perfectly, except for noob pussies with brain disorders who can't handle themselves in the middle of huge battles and then cry that it's "random" and "lolca".
Quake is about hardcore fun, devastating action and tremendous potat, and 8v8 ca pub on almost lost puts you to an extreme test of all these abilities, unlike dueling where it's piece of cake to look out for just one lousy opponent or TDM where team talk coordination makes it so much easier to handle big battles.

... not naming CA maps. ... like there is less ppl playing CA then duel, tdm or ctf. :)

CA maps are Campgrounds and Overkill. You can ignore the rest.

Anyway, id Software is shit. I've, fortunately, not had the displeasure of experiencing the map rotation, but it's stupid. It only exists as a way to milk that last bit of money from the players. id killed Quake Live.

I think its very bad to make the not competitive players, the new QL players, play on such shit maps, offcourse they wont bother to buy premium or pro even because most maps are boring...its sad that you cant even find one decent CTF public game nowadays, that used to be different.... with this retarded rotation of shit maps you wont enlarge the QL community especially the CTF community you make them run away!

I am forced to play pickups, or arrange clanwar (which is impossible with the activity of our clan) to play one fking decent map/ game once in a while.....
