Perhaps other people agree that this was a waste of great (crazy crazy great!!) frags. Looked as if it was put together quickly, not great freecamming, no fx or any effort into aesthetics at all really. In my opinion making a fragmovie is not "put some frags to music and render". Really felt this was a missed opportunity, sorry for the rant :(
Wanted to keep it simple and traditional. Last time I got ripped on for over-editing. I'll try and spice it up a bit next time. Thanks for the feedback.
But I understand Quake players dont appreciate that kind of technical editing. Goes to show you can only please some people, some of the time. I'll try and find a good balance next time.
Effects are good until they start making a movie unpleasant to watch. That movie you just linked is a perfect example. I will never understand the phenomenon how people can enjoy such stuff.
Your new movie is way better, it's very clean and pleasant to watch. I hope you will keep this kind of style in your future works. That's just my opinion.
You are right that Quake players don't really appreciate editing like you did in the old one, that is why: New movie > old movie. Also your slowmo/freecam work looks fine (not overusing it and fitting it in right). Therefore, it is a pleasant watch. But what you missed is that Quake is much about clean and neat looking configs. Not using force_enemymodel & color seems really oldschool (ofc oldschool per se isn't something bad, but in that context it means not standard/below standard, since it hurts viewing habits). Also your movie looks quite greyish and therefore a bit boring/oldschool (again: oldschool in a pejorative sense). Look at other movies (e.g. the FACEIT ones), colors are more intense than in yours + solid use of enemymodel/color leads to a more modern look. Your new video being as it is, it seems like you are wasting a good editing talent by using a sub-standard "general look" for the video.
Music ofc is a very subjective thing, but I personally didn't like it in both of the posted videos :P
Dude this video you linked has so much style, personality, and is generally amazing - not just the typical string of sweet frags. That's not to say there isn't a place for videos that simply showcase amazing QL play. In any case, nice work!!
Thanks for taking that constructively! I really liked fuck joysticks, perhaps a little over edited (the tripping makes it less fluid) but much better in my opinion. Also not sure that movie was disliked...108 thumbs up to 9 thumbs down....
My feedback: Needed FX, a touch of freecamming would be nice, look up colour correction and don't be afraid to put SOME editing in! Look forward to the next installment of FPS Masters :)
Meh! Not one to complain just did not have that wow effect tbh. Might have been from the last three frag movies released that were really quite well done. Had some cool air rockets though +6 vote for me.
Music is horrible. It's repetitive as fuck.
Also, the random models though interesting idea, I didn't like it at all.
Plus the movie's too short and the typography sucks.
4/10.
The font, the color scheme, the backgrounds, the player names. It just looks... so old.
Also, you just cannot choose fonts like the Alien one. Sure it looks cool (in Alien), but has no relation to your content. It's kitschy. It's like making a fragmovie with this font.
It won't work unless you make the whole atmosphere like in Alien. Then you can say you were going for an Alien theme. But otherwise you just can't choose a famous font like this just because it looks good.
I completely disagree, it's just a font. If it makes you think too much of the film Alien, then that's the association you're making. I'd have to say I'm not regretting that decision. However, It's Quake; a game with space and aliens, and I have used outlandish models. The font is not blatantly recognizable from the film Alien and is more or less a generic Arial-style apart from the "I." There are no rules when making movies, it's called artistic license. There is no spoon.
Nope, because it's an iconic font of the movie. It's linked to the Alien series everywhere. Everywhere. There are more fonts like these, for example, the Rammstein font. And there are fonts that have been used by famous movies, but not so much iconic, so people do not link the two together.
It's not a rule of movie making, it's graphic design. Everything is allowed of course, you can even use Comic Sans. But it will make your movie look worse.
The movie-making community has a limited about of frags! Effort=remembered... "http://premonition.dinodivine.com/" draw your own conclusions :] And yeah I'm only still here because quake is offline...
I think you're on to something with this movie. You get right to the frags and make them easy to see, slowing down and speeding up at just the right times. Time spent editing doesn't always correlate with viewing quality.
