Fucking greatest Quake news that has been released since FACEIT actually was announced!

Really hoping this will revitalize the NA scene and we can see rapha and the gang play some Quake again. Hopefully such a surge of activity will lead the way for other great tournaments such as we have already seen with 25fps, Zowie and so on :)

On a different note, I am wondering about the resource priorities. If FACEIT actually can fly players to EU finales every season, I would guess that there would be money enough to at least double the current prize pools. I don't actually know what is most important to grow Quake, but even though I'm never gonna win any of it, I think its important with good prizes to motivate the "pro" players. I'm not complaining - just a consideration :>

There's an interesting ELO consideration in what you said. Fraze playing with Euro ping for over a month helped "normalize" the ELO he had by playing in, BY FAR, the world's most diversely talented playpool(Euros+Scandies+Russia+Estonia+Belo,etc.).
Expect a somewhat similar result if South Africa's Shase played for a similar time as Fraze...Someone should sponsor Rapha/DaHanG/Chance to stay&play in the EU for two weeks. The ELO spread between all three is a bit inflated. Although I think Chance's ELO would be like blood in the water for piranhas! There's an entire tier of EU players in the 1900-2100 range that can take maps off anybody.

to be fair my elo was lower in aus b4 i left (around 2250-2300), and i peaked in eu at around 2450-2500, but since ive got back to aus i havnt lost very many matches at all so my elo is now inflated to 2600 :P

yep saw that. By "normalize" I don't mean increase or decrease either, just more accurate. You had access to a much bigger pool of high ELO players in EU. So in your case, your truer number turned out to be higher. (as well as some unpredictably entertaining tourney gameplay from a spectator's pov)

What they do now is the right thing. The price money now are good enough for motivation and faceit is MUCH MORE than ordinary tourney! Faceit is f*cking awesome show and for that they need things like that(studio/guest casters/flying best usa player to play vs europeans(bo7 pls!)/top5/even the good breaks movies..)! Dude, I enjoy faceit more than many lans! They are just THAT good and professional! For me this is MUCH more than just a tourney! Love you, faceit! <3

You guys go over and beyond what is expected, and we love you for it!

I'm not sure the US scene has enough talent to make it all that interesting for spectators. The EU scene is fun to watch because there's a bunch of players that are capable of winning cups. Even if an elite few (cypher, evil, cooller) are snatching most of them up right now there's still a bunch of guys on the periphery that are capable of winning (k1llsen, strenx, pavel, guard, agent, demon, avek etc.).

Is anyone other than Rapha going to take a 5 game set from Dahang? That's assuming he gets motivated and wants to do these things every Sunday.

Either way it's still rad. If nothing else we'll get to see Dahang play the top euros. Props to Faceit.

We had a lot of good feedback when we did our first NA cup a few months ago.

Don't give an incentive and the scene continues to stagnate. There could be a ton of talent for all we know, but they have no incentive or way to break into the scene

Hopefully Faceit can change that, hell just look at all the players that are popping up and quickly improving since the start of the EU Sunday Cups

Yea, I hope it puts a little fire under NA's belly. I know I'm going to load up the ol Quake Live and actually do some dueling. Or at least try to find people to duel with. ;D

I'm pretty sure at least 1000 Europeans, instead of turning off their TVs, will continue watching the Faceit studio if they seamlessly switch from Euro final to early stages of NA competition and cover those games.

If rapha/DaHang/Zero4/dkt/chance/walter/apparition/ziel show up, it will be more entertaining than watching pavel's +back on ztn for the 1000th time (as much skill as that guy has, it's still painfully boring to watch each week).

There are a few other guys who can hang with the big dogs. I've seen stoked take maps from dahang in the past months.

See, that's exactly why we won't turn the stream off! To see something new for a change, because that name is completely new to me for example :)

yea with only a few possible active (pro) players in the US to choose from i really dont blame him. obviously, if he was in EU he would have a variety of tougher competition, would be more challenged, and his ELO ranking would not be as high.

agreed. Besides the pro status of dkt and Chance, I think DaHanG plays them for other good reasons: First, let's be honest -- QL is addictive. Secondly, dkt will say some of the funniest in-match dialogue and constantly challenges positions and always finds new ways to pressure. Who wouldn't want to play him and often?

Besides being a teammate, Chance knows all the maps well and uses all the weaps without annoying bias. Best of all, he's prone to unpredictable, but hilarious text dumps during matches where's he dumbfounded about a fight outcome/weap choice/DaHanG's stack/choice of defense...you name it.

Playing either of these two at DaHanG's level must be both entertaining and relaxing.

Depends on the activity. I think Cypher, Cooller, Evil, Strenx, K1llsen, Av3k, Demon, Guard could deliver a pretty good show. Ideally they should fly in top 2 NA players (Rapha and Dahang?). If it's a question of finacing the flights, let the community donate. I'll gladly pay 2$ to see Rapha and Dahang in the finals.

The faceit organization is REALLY solid. The website looks crazy amazing, they do great frag vids, they don't fuck up the streaming, they have awesome casters. Great lans and even ladders.

I want them to succeed and become bigger and better in the esports community,, however with only handling quakelive, that can't happen. They need to branch out to other games and lans so that they can truly become as big as they should be.

When they become bigger they will have more influence, and because they are die hard quakers, they won't betray us. They will lift quake up even more by featuring it to the masses of casual scrubs, then we will see some new players join and shit will gradually get better for everyone. Faceit needs to be the leading example to esports everywhere because of how professional and well organized they are.

If they want to stay all quake that is completely fine by me. But a quick fix of quake won't help in the long run, if ql isn't always growing in terms of player base or spectators than we'll be fucked even when q5 comes out.

Got to think long term by appealing to casuals from other communities about why and how good quake is. Quakelive is easily accessible by anyone and it is free. Quake 5 won't be free so it is less accessible. For the future, we must make people see quakelive as really riveting and amazing. People will remember it, but might not play it because it's an old game. However when q5 comes along they'll jump at the chance to get in on the ground floor of a quake.

Obviously we will continue to keep supporting Quake, as it's simply the best game out there and it's where our heart and soul lies :)

Well we all know that Sh*tmania makes the pros lose their QL skills, so it was to be expected really. But even when rapha was playing regularly his competitive skills developed slowly in the lead up to a LAN where he would often lose online cups and then in the LAN group stages he gradually moved up a few gears until he would be in full rapha mode and destroy everyone in the final stages. So some one off cup like this is really not going to bring out the top rapha game, unless he starts playing every week.

That is my thought. Think about the duel players in EU who have only started to flourish since playing in the faceit cups.

But before Faceit took over we did also go through loads of Zotac cups where it was strenx v pavel or someone every week with pretty much the same outcome each time. That started to get pretty boring until other top players like cypher, killsen etc started making an appearance. Without Zero4 and other top US players the NA cups could get very boring if its just rapha v dahang each week... It took a long time in EU for new players to start to have an impact and there is a much larger pool of new players in the EU, so the NA cups have a really long way to go :(

Probably the best combination of honest opinion and optimistic outlook I've read -- instead of the usual, oft-repeated (and, well true) one-sided comment about how much depth and skill EU/CIS players have.
Playing while knowing almost a 1000 specs are watching adds another obstacle to get your head around; hopefully, a whole tier of NA ql players rise to the challenge.

p.s. imo if apparition_ is really 14 (and I haven't been roped into a troll conspiracy), he may turn out to be NA's version of Burneddd.

He is a little older now but still in his teens and he is always trying to improve his game. He is definitely an up and coming player in the NA scene in my mind and I have seen him get continually better in the last 8 months in the events that I have run and he has participated in.

It would be nice to see the likes of zero4, chance, ziel, and vo0 playing in these Faceit events also. So lets hope we do see a larger influx of players playing again in the NA scene, but it will take time. There is also a lot of lower tiered players who are on the cusp of being close to pretty competitive here in N.A. and they have been playing religiously for awhile so lets hope they keep playing and we might see even some new blood start climbing the ranks like in Europe.
