i downloaded about 10ish official qcon 2009 vods from quadv few years ago, dunno are they still up cause i couldn't download some of them back then, you're welcome to try if they're still even up ;)

omg this is so good so good so fucking good so wonderfully fucking good, I prefer the outro sequence of the first one, the footage of rapha having an orgasm and cooller talking it is perfectly synced to the outro music passage, but this is even better overall than the original!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love you.

20/10 for actually putting the effort into making an extended cut and fixing the plasma shenanigens.

I'd prefer 1 GB 60fps movie, than 500 MB with 30fps...

I loved it but there are still a few things that bug me, eg. :

* "and it's Spart1e that has to chase Rapha" >shows Avek on video. wat?
* Cooller vs Avek 2:49. No gun drawn and the (lg) hitsound is different than the ones used in the rest of entire video. And there are some funny blue green red X Y Z axis right under the left fire torch! lol

Still many flaws in it, but you aren't supposed to get a 2nd chance when it comes to moviemaking anyway. Imagine everyone posting a movie, waiting for ESR to shit all over it and then eventually adapt it to the general public's taste.

Does have a very nice feel to it tho. Missed opportunity if you ask me.

Can't agree with you. This is exactly why every decent movie needs a couple of (sane) beta testers.

Well it is more common than you think in the movie making world. There are for example 7 different versions of Blade Runner... It happens alot with movies where the content and potential is so good that people always think it couldbe improved to be even better :)

Who are you to decide "you aren't supposed to get a 2nd chance", most people do not remake their movie after esr criticism because they dont want to (lazy / busy with other work / cba) etc. I would rather give credit to dKsl that he took the criticism in a positive way and further improved the movie, which was already pretty fkin good.

I would see it as an unspoken rule. The challenge for every moviemaker should be to get it right the first time.

Most people have already seen 99 % of the frags so making a 2nd version where some things have been changed kinda defeats the purpose of moviemaking imo. Like I said, every movie needs a couple of good beta testers to avoid a scenario like this.

I agree a few beta testers would have been nice but even the movies which use beta testers still face lots of criticism. Also cut him some slack, he tried something much more than a frag movie, this is like a piece of quake memory, 20 years later when probably there will be no quake whatsoever but I would still watch this and relive these moments, most of which I saw live. There are very few movies that comes to mind that tried to do something similar, the one below and a quakeworld documentary style movie I saw sometime back.

Great movie, but there is one thing I really missed.. frag message, in the beginning it looked like the enemy didnt die and I was like, was that even a frag? but still, a great movie and it's so much better with screaming shoutcasters etc :) 9/10

Strangely, I don't find that movie epic enough. I was expecting something quite huge, but I even find it dull, maybe because of music (especially around 5mn).

So I'd say there's some issues with the overall rythm in this movie.

It's still a pretty good one though.

Would have appreciated a little more info on the games, especially what the score was at the time, was it the finals, what tournament etc... of course some things come through in the commentary.

This is not a Quake video... this is _THE QUAKE VIDEO_ !!!

I must summarize my thoughts about it:

-No cheesy / noob destroying / staged frags, just the highest level ones happened in competitions, by the best players against the best players

-No laughable IRL footage finally, where a guy basically hummiliting himself or anything (hello Strenx 2011)

-The 3rd person footage is fitting, not too much, doesnt breaks the flow and I have not thought i will say this ever in my life

-No cheesy / trendy / cool music and this grandiouse music fits perfectly for the frags performed. It would be pathetic in a video where a CA noob scores 3 rail in a row, but anything else would not emphasize enough what a Quake competition means for the players and the viewers.

In my book this video is 10*/10, perfect. Nothing else to add or change. Everyone who was ever played a competitive video game should watch this video regardless of their taste.

Sorry, the lack of death messages completely ruined it for me.

I have tried to integrate "death messages" into the extended version, but many cuts after a frag happens are simply too fast, and you cant read them fast enough. Some frags also ends in 3rd person, and a message on those scenes would look terrible (like in the first version).

therefore, I have decided on the "vs" variation.

Aside from this preference of mine, solid job.

Wow, that's one of the best frags movies in a very long time - there aren't many movies that come close to this. Gutted it didn;t go on longer really.

Music was great, kinda reminded me of a film called Inception I've just watched :)
