mine is a Samsung Syncmaster 797MB 17", and i can only set 100hz at 1024x768, never tried to increase the refresh rate tho, maybe it can handle 115hz+ at 1024x768, maybe
i would love to play at 160hz, must be soooo smooth
Dont overlock your monitor... i did this with my viewsonic at 1024x768 at 117hz when it can only go to 100hz. It was nice but i only lasted for a week :L
OLED - Organic Light Electronic Diode, or something like that.
As far as i can remember, every part of the screen that is black is turned off, so you save a bit energy.
OLED = organic light emitting diode, it's a matrix of leds in which the semiconductor is an organic polymer.
first protos came out in the 80's, but it was hard to align leds and drive them with low voltages.
it's like having an rgb triplet of leds for each pixel, counterposed to one, big lamp behind pixel-sized windows.
as you said, black pixel = led off = no current = no power dissipation since a transistor turns on/off the led is "mated" to.
in http://www.oled-info.com they state oleds are faster than leds; I don't really believe in it atm.
also, i have some doubts regarding the reliability of all the devices produced in the next 1-2 years.
dont know its up to user how he treats his monitor.Mine looks like it was bought yesterday like new, no burnin shades,no smoked plastic from the sides.. like new, I feel like it could handle next decade easily. But thats not the point, the thing is that no LCD will have as vivid colours as these CRTs and not even close as sharp, best buy for my 20e.Only thing I wish is to find a 21inch..
edit:just remembered, there is a con about them.. you need drivers and they work only on XP I think.
