This would only work when at the same time a flamethrower would be introduced. For:

b) Burn the enemy souls into eternal hell.

c) Light your cigarette/spliff combined with 5min pause during battle. This way 20min tdm's wouldnt be so stressfull. You have to know when to relax and when not to relax!

If by "1X1" you mean duel, then definitely no -.-
For some other gamemodes oder even other games those ideas sound like they could be fun though. But I think the ice gun should be sort of an item, so it can be used while working with other weapons. Otherwise the time for weapon switch will make it useless in many situations or at least it will be a quite big gamble that many won't take in regular fights (e.g. in your video the ice + grenade thing). Also I don't see how it could be implemented working senseful in a 3d invironment.

More detail plz...I do not see problems

The plain in which the ice will be generated in... is it dynamic in regards of where the player shooting is and to where he shoots? How/Where exactly will it be created? Relative to the player? Will it always be generated vertically? How about curved surfices? How about stairs? Many possibilities for bugs/weird behavior.

I wrote in top. You first turn your mouse in some direction and press key (coordinates of your fov - plain ) After that you shoot and ice will be parallel to plain.


All it happens in half second ;)

1- turn mouse
2-key press
3-turn mouse to target
4-shoot key
5-key press for spawn ice while bullet flies

So the ice will be spheric then? Because otherwise it is not simple and not the same as a rocket hitting a wall. Judging by your video this is not the case. There are all kinds of shapes and sizes as well as different axes and plains involved. This makes things complicated.

I had very similar ideas some time ago :) It's not going to happen in foreseeable future though, we don't even have the regular hook yet on online servers.

I like the worms' ninja-rope style hook, with instant hooking, swinging in 3d, changing the line length and other cool stuff.

The "ice-gun" - In my imagination it was on an empty space map, where to go from A to B you would have to spawn the rocks and bounce off them, fly, airstrafe, spawn another rock to land on etc.

The main problem with adding a grappling hook to QL, in whichever way it is implemented (swinging or not, faster or slower, etc.), is maps are way too small for that. Hook only really works when maps were made taking that feature into account.

Grappling hook in QL can do most of that stuff but the physics aren't that good. Also it can be used as a weapon.
