announcing stuff on impossible to navigate clanbase website is like not announcing at all. next time drop me a line here on esr or on my e mail koziolrh@wp.pl and i'll write the newspost no problem. in fact if people are willing to inform me i volunteer to write tdm related news posts on esr period, but i'm not connected enough so i'll need some informants. a reliable source of information like... a james bond of tdm
There isn't much navigating needed to be done to get to the cup page. CB was built in the times where sites followed 3 clicks to destination guideline (could say the same for esreality). Altho only one click is actually required in this case:
First obvious step is visiting ClanBase website
Now if you look at the left side you'll see the 3rd menu block called Competitions. Cups are on top so you just hover over EuroCup XXVII and a new menu pops up. Here comes the difficult part. You have to move your mouse to the right a bit and click on QL TDM link within that newly formed menu and voila, you magically appear on the cup page which was probably announced on ESR at least one time already.
I think it's easier (and less time consuming) to get to any active ClanBase cup page than it is to get to a certain game forum here on esreality (hovering over text, clicking forum, finding game, clicking game forum). Or perhaps the bias opinion comes from the amount of time and experience amounted over time of using certain site.
nice try. I can somewhat get around clanbase and I knew about the final, but trying to convince anyone that cb site is easy to use and get the various info from I'm afraid is not going to work. and the comparison to esr isn't very good as well, cause esr has it's own usability problems. there are just more reasons to persevere imho.
Yeah so it pretty much depends on whether you want to find something or not.
I've actively spent time on both sites for more than 10 years so i know my way around pretty well.
If you wanted everything to be easy (not bothering navigating for info) i guess twitter is the way to go.
While I agree with you, I think it is somewhat irrelevant because of two points:
1) Not everybody who is interested in the EC will have the time and nerve to regularly go the CB website to check the schedule*. This would be necessary to follow the tournament, because not all matches are posted as a news and can be seen directly on the frontpage. Even more frustratingly, most of the match dates are forced ones and are more likely to be re-scheduled or wildcarded than to be actually played.
Because of this, it is crucial to announce the schedule -- especially once the admins know that the match dates are reliable -- on websites which are frequently visited by most of the community, i.e. ESR. This appears to be known to the cup admins and leads me to point 2:
2) Coverage and announcements on ESR for the last couple of EC seasons have always been like this: Even though there is lots of coverage in the beginning (registering, draft of groups, first round of groupstage), it gradually decreases over time and the most important matches (play-offs, and especially the grand final) are not announced at all. The result is 300 spectators for the grandfinal.
* which, by the way, is very well hidden by labeling it "roster" (English CB), or even worse "Clan Verzeichnis" (German CB, which translates to "index of clans").
Esdf had a harsh (and pointless might I add) criticism of yourself and your relation to clanbase, but you have both quenched any potential flame and managed to show any neuteral observer that esdf is being unreasonable (and a retard within the context) within 2 lines. Is there really a need to nuke something once the post has been discredited?
doz3r on the other hand should really know better and act like an adult... referring to people who tried to give additional coverage to your own cup as "morons" and "idiots" for not following esoteric match updates on the clanbase source is unreasonable to say the least. This is a perfecet example of a an event that makes me thank fuck that quake is not a popular game at all: imagine if it WAS popular and people like doz3r carried weight around a game of LoL's popularity and how much harm he would be able to do with random comments like these to a bunch of 14 year olds rather than ESR's readerbase. (additionally consider that this is coming from a morally ambiguous and hypocritical asshole like me).
Considering esdf targeted both you and your organisation in his post, I will let you be the judge of whether his post warrants a nuke or not based on both my points above and the initial contraversy potential of his comment (edit: and follow your decision on the subject): does it warrant a nuke or not?
There is no universal "they", clanbase administration is incredibely ambiguous, and it's not very centralised either, so it's not like the guy is a clanbase spokesperson.
Additionally, I would have nuked the post should someone else have written it, so it's biased to leave it purely on the merits of who wrote it.
Finally, it's not like their reputation was through the roof anyway, and seeing a raged man-child response like that would only escalate things further or even potentially discourage people from signing up for Clanbase cups as they currently provide Quake tournaments (both live and 3 at the moment) so why burn bridges or further contribute to the decline of QL competition?
The delivery was offensive, just look at the responses it got.
What part of referring to the creators of the only news source of your cup's final on a website as "morons" (considering there were no other news posts from official news writers) and mocking them for not perfectly following the esoteric ways to find match details on clanbase (while not actually explaining how to find the match, just dropping a link) isn't offensive?
Yes, spain did nothing those mins.
Italy is +back in general, but they deserved the victory from what i saw.
Tony: they did some good counters but not clear oportunities to score 5 goals.
