Look at the pirated games, hacked sites/databases, viruses, etc, etc...there is kinda no way to stop someone to do something on pc. You can only make it harder for him. Look at daddy - he knows how to cheat, but he can't use simple justin.tv script for watching vods. Make it harder is the way to go for id(mail verification, etc, etc).

you can get banned if you have premium or pro. it's much less likely--my main account was pro at one point and most recently premium, but it incrued some number of temporary bans for whatever reasons, and ultimately was permanently banned after reaching some arbitrary threshold. it happens.

2. Penalize people for quitting matches like they do in LoL.
3. automatically place players in spec on teams when both are present and ready. (don't even let people vote team size in a pub man, should be automatically set by map size)
4. last but not least...and i guess apparently the hardest to implement. bind accounts to cell phones like google does and use it to text account activation numbers to.

I got banned from the tiger woods online beta.

Basically EA Sports abandoned the pc because of all the piraters and cheaters.

Tiger woods pga tour 2005-2008, gradually got cheated to crap.

People either locking x,y axis on special mouse drivers....or just using a hard edge like a ruler.

EA sports abandoned all games starting in 2005 and fully pulled all their games in 2008. (i mean only nerds are on pc nowdays they don't care about sports anyways)

So when they made the microtransaction browser version that had horrible graphics and absolutely no play control and was pay to win. missing many game modes and features... I was arguing about the direction of development with a mod in the beta and they banned me.

But i'm not banned from BF3. which I still play, even with its measly hacker playerbase..... Shit BF3 gets hacked so much they ddos origin down a couple times and month and plant viruses on their webpages......take down servers and players.....its pretty sad. PC gaming is dead in general.

actually, you can manually change your MAC address on the fly in XP, 2k, Vista, 7, Linux, FreeBSD, and pretty much everything else. I can change my IP on both my cable and DSL connections in ~2 minutes. instantly for my DSL because it uses PPPoE, and a 2 min MAC timeout for my cable modem.

e-mail verification would be pretty useless, because I have control over the mailserver of a slew of domain names (and could create many more on demand), plus I can create any number of accounts on various free webmail services, or whatever.

you don't need to change your HDD volume IDs. they do not ban this. but yeah, a simple sysinternals program will do that trick if necessary.

the only criteria they use for bans is username, MAC address, and IP address. it's trivial, sure; I've bypassed it dozens of times. I'm not entirely sure why I'm banned in the first place but I don't care too much. I don't take the game very seriously and hardly play anyway; it's just something that's trivial to do when my friends want me to play a game or two and I'm bored.

I would like to say, though, that this "slumming" thing simply does not exist. it doesn't happen; no one does it; no one really can do it; and anyone who would do it is sad to an extreme level. but.. you're really misinformed about the way Quakelive works. honestly, you must be really exceptionally bad at the game, and I'm not trying to be offensive. I've told you this before. almost _everyone_ is in tier 4. the tier system has never been useful or functional, and I don't see any way it really could be, outside of some super advanced heuristic algorithms which would be entirely outside the scope of something like a free web-based game.

additionally, philosophically I disagree with the concept of banning, both for political and practical reasons. foregoing the political aspects, the simple fact of the matter is that banning anyone is ultimately an impossible task and a constant back-and-forth battle, just like DRM and such. you cannot plug the analog hole. it's just a law of physics. if the content is there, it can be accessed. there's no way around that, and I think that the attempt to make some sort of way around that is not only futile, but harmful. it doesn't do anything but make the game more annoying and inaccessible to legitimate players.

I had a buddy who was banned, emailed support and they had done a rangeban because of a hacker who lived in close proximity. They unbanned him though so I guess they just put him on a whitelist.
