Well, depends what your screen Hz is I guess, if its 120, set it to 120, 60, set it to 60.

Its solid 125fps when windowed, then stable at 60, no more/less.

Its deffo not an fps problem, its something else.

If it's stable 60 in full screen, then it's indeed most likely that vertical synchronization is still on. When you unchecked it in the Nvidia control panel, did you do this on the global settings tab or per-application tab? Maybe on the latter tab vsync is still being forced on. Also, if you use Firefox, then you'd have to set up settings for plugin-container.exe, not firefox.exe, as this is the actual process QL is running in. In other browsers it may be similar.

I did it on the global settings tab, and I also did the same for plugin-container.exe.

To be this sounds like a laptop video output issue.
What monitor and cables are you using?

If possible, use vga or dvi output and not hdmi etc.

beware of vga though. I've seen many lcds adding alot of input lag on vga, but fine on dvi.

then you prolly have two GFX cards, one integrated intel and a second NVIDIA/ATI. intel handles the 2D graphics and the other 3D. change vsync settings for both cards.

Yeah I do, I changed it for nvidia card but can't find the setting to change it for the onboard card.

maybe disable it in bios

When I checked ingame to see which video card QL is using, its using the nvidia gt 740m.

Found the intel settings, Vsync is set to 'use application settings'

oh if you get stable 60 and you don't have drops up and down then it could be vsync or some weird settings of your gpu

Does the resolution change when you go fullscreen? Maybe the nvidia driver switches to a resolution profile with 60hz.

Only if it's somehow enabling vsync as well.

I dont have the Display option in my nvidia control panel, I only have 3d and Video.

I had similar problem before and solved it. This only affects for Nvidia users.
Make your QuakeLive Individual program setting in "Nvidia Control Panel", and Disable "threaded Optimization" will may fix your Lowering FPS thing. Good luck.

Quake Live isn't listed as a program. So I changed it for Chrome and plugin-container and it didnt work :(

I haven't played QL at 60hz in a long time, however surely if you are playing on a laptop your max hz is going to be 60? In that case there is no need to get 125fps, since movement in QL is not dependent on fps.

I didn't realise that, I guess I want 125 as I have always had it and anything else just seems wrong :)

But QL's input and network data processing frequency still is dependent on FPS, isn't it?

If the monitor max hz is 60, then the max fps you can see is 60.

the difference, however small, is noticeable (for me) at first.
when you play a game or 5-10 on 60 fps its fine tho =)

I thought it was the same as in quake 3? You jump further 125fps using the quake 3 engine and you jump higher with 250fps.

it isn't. With less fps the height and length will be the exact same, though ofc will feel a bit sluggish. Same goes to lag.

This doesn't help you, but I need to have a lil rant.
I loaded up QL after a couple of months without playing the other day; getting the same shit. There seems to be nothing logical about it - have changed absolutely nothing on this machine since I last played.

Sometimes it's fine and sometimes it isn't - if I reboot twice it's still on half fps, then the 3rd time it's back to normal. Or sometimes if I swap to display B (2 120hz LCDs plugged in) it can go from 120fps to 60odd, then if I switch to A then back to B it's back to 120fps.

Still have this problem, no idea how to fix it.

why not try to set it to the default

- what else did you config what you're not sure about how it works?

revert to defaults
change settings to default
don't change what you don't know about for sure

hahaha I cant believe this, I changed the power option to High Performance rather than balanced and I now have 125 fps solid. Ridiculous!!! Thanks for your help anyway boys :)
