I don't get enything.

Here's what I did, which is the logic way to do it(that's why I didn't explain myself, but now I have to anyways... what ev!) :)

I opened up VLC ->Media->Open Network Stream->Pasted in URL( in this case: http://twitch.tv/qlrankstv )

Hit Play!

And I get nothing.

Push the play button again; nothing.

here's what to put in a .bat file to open the QuakeCon stream:

START cmd.exe /C "C:\Program Files (x86)\Livestreamer\livestreamer.exe" www.twitch.tv/quakecon 720p

how to make a bat file lol

Open notepad. Write stuff. Save as "whatever.bat"

you've got to change the type when you save, though
under the field where you write the name of the file

otherwise it'll give you whatever.bat.txt or even worse, whatever.bat if you don't display the extensions

Not on my computer, no. Saving as "x.bat" even while keeping "*.txt" will make it a real bat file. I can't tell if it's true for every Windows but at least on my Vista it is.

in Windows Explorer, make sure you show file extensions, then just edit the filename to make sure it's "x.bat" and not "x.bat.txt"

When I say "a real bat file", I mean a real bat file. ;)

Works with the nightly version of MPC-HC

get rtmpdump and [VLC or MPC-HC]
enter a valid / channel name
enter your local paths to VLC and rtmpdump above
enter the resulting command line to win+r -> cmd.
