So? A player can very well aim to play against players midly worse and midly better than him. The fact the difference between these two limits is huge is totally irrelevant.

- you must time all items on map
- you must know standart jumppaths to dodge and shoot.
- you must know all (at least standart) traps fakes and countermeasure in different situtions, and make your own. its all depends on each player when and how to be agressive.
- and play faceit or 125fps

Personally, i'd just time mega and get a 'feeling' for the armours. Works/worked for me, anyway!

Its better to time at least RA and MH cause you know when will be "RA=MH situation". About other YA's: if you take Ra then YAU(A) then YAL(B) in head it is just "38a" (if there are only 2 YA on map); or there you can use a "feeling" for YA's so in head it is "45 28" (ra mh) but you remember that right after ra will be YAU or right after RA i go there (YAU).

Tried to play quakelive last night on a laptop on 60hz as opposed to a proper setup with a 120hz monitor and dear God I could not aim. The movement was there, my reactions decision making but my aim was just not there at all. At least 5-10% less.

Anyone got any experience using a 144hz monitor? Does it differ that much from 120?

i played with 60hz all the time back in the days!! thats what quake was created with.

That feels so wrong ,CRT's have allways been able to use 120hz or even more.
I only ever played with less then 120hz in the beginning of lcd's and even then 75hz (bigg difference against 60 for quake) was possible at lower resolutions.

Sooo no quake is one of the few games that dosent work well on 60hz.

try r_mode 9 and r_displayrefresh 75 ,might work on your lappy and it will give you a more responsive feeling.

120hz is fine. I can definitely feel the difference between 120hz and 144hz but it is definitely not so noticable than the difference between 60 to 120hz, which should be logical -_-.

Even if you have 60hz on the crt, your aim will still be better than on the laptop. The crt does not have any delay while your shitty laptop screen probably has like 15ms. Not to mention motion blur and all that shit.

It's true and wrong at the same time:

LCDs don't flicker the way tube monitors do. So 60 Hz LCD is fine for the eyes, while 60 Hz CRT makes them 'bleed' ;)
Given a still-image, you cannot see any difference between 60 Hz LCD vs 120 Hz LCD.

In terms of gaming, however, Hz matters a lot. On LCD, 120 Hz feel like 10 times better than 60 Hz.

Im not sure really but to be sure you should allways set it to a value instead of just 0 imo.

Your default should be 60hz but you might be able to force it to 75 if you play in 4:3 ratio (r_mode 9 or 12).

I have not used a 144hz monitor, but I doubt there's much difference. There are a couple of reasons for that:
- going from 120->144 isn't that big of a step as it is going from 60/75->120
- QL engine is hardcapped at 125 fps, so you'd gain close to nothing from refresh rate above 125(120)
- you have to understand that input lag is separate from refresh rate. most 120hz screens already have very low lag, so you don't gain much if any improvement there. 60/75hz screens however typically have high lag, and getting rid of that is the most important factor that enables you to hit much better

Also, again I have not used a 144hz screen, but from what I understand 144hz and Lightboost are mutually exclusive, and most people opt for using Lightboost instead.
