Thanks :) Yes, I wanted to change a few things, but was aware people probably wouldn't appreciate it. You can't get used to a texture in one movie. Sort of wish the ql pk3's weren't protected, but I understand why :p

You really have no reason to use wmv to render your video, it's an awful container with some awfuls codecs.
You also messed up your render, there's letterboxing everywhere on every media player I tried, it looks really bad.

Sorry about that, I don't have that when I played it back but others had the same problem. The video is only 1280x720 so I don't know what's causing it. wmv works just fine though, otherwise the file size would be much larger. 2.2Gb download anyone?

The file size only depends on the bitrate you are choosing for your encode.
For instance your wmv is encoded at roughly 8000 kbps so using H.264 at the same bitrate would output a file with the exact same size.
And H.264 is a better codec, which means that if you choose the right settings, you could have a file that has a better image quality for a smaller filesize. The only drawbacks are probably encoding time and the computing power needed for playback, but nowadays it shouldn't be a concern (especially for 720p@40fps).

I rendered in H.264 for youtube (as youtube uses that codec so it's best to as well) and ended up with a 2.2Gb file that looks no better than the wmv one (although yes I went for maximum quality and maximum size). I'm no rendering wizard, but I know that wmv is quite a well compressed format (making it high quality for the size).

The mp4 render took my laptop 4 hours overnight, and the consequent upload to youtube took 5 and a half hours. My dropbox only has 1Gb space in total and I don't really want to buy space online when most people watch the youtube version anyway.

The letterboxing issue is not great; sorry, but if you've got no issue with the quality then all's well?

Yeah no worries, I was just giving a piece of personal advice.
I still don't think there's any real reasons nowadays to not use H.264 for this type of videos, but the process of choosing the right settings and getting the good balance between filesize/quality/encode time can indeed be a bit time consuming and discouraging.

strange movie in a positive sense.

colors, effects, high fov, left & right cuts of the screen, team arena scenes. on top of that wmv, wtf. the second part in black & white didnt work so well.

Sorry you didn't get the second part so much, it was definitely an experiment to see if people would like it. Personally, I was pleased with the outcome, but you're entitled to your opinion :) Aye, rendering is my weak spot for sure. fov was wolfcam default (110), this raises an interesting point as to why wolfcam's default is higher than ql's.

its clear to see that you played around with things. which i like a lot!

no matter what codec you used, the picture looked sharp. about the second part, ofc its my (worthless) opinion. i got all the cool colors to see, and than the movie switched to b/w stealing the colors away. that was my feel. i like b/w, i remember an old q3 movie with d`n`b in b/w.

My type of bedtime reading is a 14 page (double sided) list of all the wolfcamcvars. No stone left unturned!

Yeah, I see why you might feel like that; I definitely wanted to create a unique "image" though. First part was very vivid as you say (I changed most of the textures slightly and upped global contrast), and the second part is bnw to give a sort of timeless look... glad you liked it overall though :]

Thanks! Really appreciate it. I hope that people firstly find out about that texture file and secondly use it. I've personally found it invaluable in fixing issues and overriding textures. Maybe I should make a journel about it...

No idea, to be honest. Didn't happen for me (windows media player). I've heard rumor that pressing c in VLC resizes to fullscreen and sorts out the problem. Sorry :(

Could be several reasons. .... Vegas project settings should be 1280 x 720 (proportions 16:9) file export same..Next time use the x264 codec is the best. Want to know more.. answer me YT.
