I can't fucking do it, but i heard some CS guys use mousewheel to jump.

I do too in CS, but I guess it's because the physics and gameplay are different, you don't jump as much as in quake.
thats why I wonder how people make do with space as jump for instance, must be so hard to staffjump properly.

i actually tried to learn how to sj with mouse2 jump. wasted 3 days of my life. after 13 years of space jump i dont really see how m2 would be easier or better or whatever.

I've been using mouse2 for 5-6 years now, but I know that when I first started it, I got used to it pretty quick. It's just a lot more comfortable for me. My movement got way better.

I think it depends how long you are used to that, I use space since I started playing FPS with like 10 Half Life 1 that was.

It's fundamentally different in CS. There it's almost impossible to catch right frame in order to unbound unlike in quake. Therefore you bind jump on mwheel and obviously that scrolling up (or down) mwheel raises your chance to unbound 6x or 7x, depending on the way you go with scrolling.

All, without exception, jumpers do that and regular cs shooters do too afaik.

wheeljumping is absolutely key to bunnyhopping in cs

mousewheel is necessary for bunnyhopping because it's freakishly hard to hit the exact jump moment every time so you spam jump 5 times a second by rolling the mousewheel.And btw 1.0-1.6 bunnyhop is probably the hardest movement to learn, qw is kindergarten against this wizzardry. having knowledge in tf2 painkiller qw q4 q3 cpm and bf2142 piloting lol bhop has by far the least outcome of speed. in a nutshell you practice and practice and practice and suddenly you move 50 ups faster which can only be seen by the trained eye and has next to no practical use ingame but you feel like fucking neo bending the matrix.

I don't think sd m2 space is so good for movement since the jump key just has to go somewhere awkward.

What's interesting though is that this is the config that XoLeRaS used to pwn in doom2 circa '95.

sd strafes, shift back, m2 forward, space jump, and he has awesome movement. He just can't walk/crouch and have full movement control. I suppose he could for one of them if his mouse had a thumb button though.

For CTF i have to move my hand from the mouse to the numpad to do binds such as "Enemy in/out top", "Enemy in/out right", "Enemy in/out left", "Enemy in/out bottom", "Enemy in/out water", "Base unsafe", "Base safe". - Not really the smartest idea, but i cannot come up with any other solution, because of the amount of binds needed in CTF.

I remember OSP(or CPMA?) had a really awesome feature where if you held down a certain key, all your binds changed. Was a really great solution to having limited keys.

Actually, this is probably still possible to do, just a bit of vstrvstrvstr.

C is the key for crouch.

C optimal for ESDF'ers, x for WASD'ers

C is not optimal, as it takes away a finger from movement

But crouch is a movement key, when you press it your character moves.

To me personally (I use the WASD keys to move), it's convenient to use X as it is right below your +back and is within proximity, which means it can be pressed by whichever finger is free that second - middle, index or thumb.

Before playing Deus Ex, I used to have C for crouch, but that game has a large amount of binds so I couldn't be fucked remapping the whole binds system due to a whimsical thing. Then back to quake3, I noticed i went for the naturally closer X when pressing crouch so changed that shit.

c for crouch and space for jumping and you can't do both at the same time => doesn't handicap your movement

I have a double zoom script which I got from frazes config. Basically I zoom with mouse4 and while holding it in and I switch to rail with 'e' if I press the 'e' key again it zooms in even more. At any time I let go of mouse4 it goes back to normal.

How do you switch between another weapon and specifically LG, or specifically RL?

I just kinda know in my head if I need to press mouse2 once or twice, depending on which weapon I need, it just seems to work! I probably get it wrong maybe once every 20 duels.

my head hurts just thinking about this. for fuck's sake you aussies really are backwards!

as far as i know im they only aus player who uses these controls - and mayb its the reason why noone has heard of me :p
but it seems to work for tox!
and my friend was a top QTF player in the day.

but i still need to fine tune my controls (mine are slight diff to tox)..
i should not jump with shift, nor shoot with ctrl..... but its so hard to break a habit formed over 5 years hehe

i guess it may be hard to understand if u dont use these controls... but when i have to do an action that requires holding down a key (walking or zooming) i am then 1 finger short... i cannot strafe both ways/jump/crouch, i have to sacrifice one of them and rearrange my fingers accordinly....

hence why im so interested in tox's cfg.

was quakeworld inverted mouse as default, or did ppl pick that up from somwhere else? or is it just a "games went 3d it was obvious for brain" the same way as joystick is obvious inverted for myself but not mouse?

No idea. I was in the internet cafe in 1998, was playing some q2 with an inverted m_pitch. Didn't know how to change it. There were only starcraft feggets around so nobody could help me, so i kinda used to it. The next day somebody told me about console and its commands, but it was too late. It was already better with invert on :)

Quake was 'normal' by default (m_pitch 0.022). Duke3D's default was inverted, and the invert option in setup would give what is considered 'normal' orientation nowadays

yes, but inverted is a way the brain sees 3d-world movement. Most guys now a days play non-inverted on controller/joystick, which for me is insanity. On a mouse though, my brain understands why some ppl think inverted is 'correct' orientation. I'm just curious to why though.
