Invisibility and teleporting would make duels freak shows. Simply doesn't belong in professional competition, IMO.

proximity mines and kamikaze for ultimate out of control revenge. don't like any of the ta additions really, even in ctf.

on a serious note: quake (especially duel) lives from its simplicity and its balance. introducing gimmicks like mines is a step in the wrong direction

Only if you can stick them on ammo boxes, then collect the ammo box so the mine vanishes, but it still explodes if you walk past it.

If anyone has any ideas like these, they should try to organize a single-day duel cup with an official Start-a-Match config. Play the cup and see whether or not anyone actually likes these ideas.

Even if the ideas are bad, they can generate some fun cups to participate in, which only leads to more community activity and involvement. I'd love to see a set of admins organize one cup a month that had interesting rulesets to try out:

Week 1: Open forum brainstorm ideas for rulesets.
Week 2: Players strawpoll vote from some of the best ideas.
Week 3: Sign-ups
Week 4: Cup + Stream

Repeat.

Would you be willing to advertise the cups a little and even throw a token or two to distribute as participation prize (so not only good players are interested)?
