Well, my mum had a few cases of laryngitis while being a teacher for a decade, even requiring surgery once (or twice, can't remember now). I can tell you she was particularly careful, but wear and tear on the vocal folds happens regardless.
Perhaps a more apt description would be that it's a question of how much you use your voice, and whether you can slow down to take a break or being obligated to talk ceaselessly.
Have a sip of water every once in a while and don't talk with your throat closed (or restrained, rather; try singing while whispering- don't do that).
Don't be paranoid mate, it's only after her first case of laryngitis that she occasionally gets a little pain after a full day of talking, and she got there in the first place by really pushing it for a few years and not being aware.
Remember that when you go to a club and scream your ass off all night, your voice might be hoarse for a day or two, but recover to exactly where it was.
