That is not the same as aliasing, people still know who you are no matter what clothes you are wearing. Wearing a uniform is more akin to wearing a clantag. If you want to alias irl you'd have to become another person, get a face lift etc (Watch the movie faceoff for an example)

In fact id software should have it so u need an email activation for new accounts so people who alias cant be bothered making new email addresses all the time.

How on earth is email activation the worst thing in the world? Idiots gonna idiot, activations that take twenty seconds will not change that. :>

Have you even tried to make gmail account these days? Takes fucking forever to even understand the gibberish that is the CAPTCHA

EDIT: Basically all I'm saying is it wouldn't stop aliasing but a huge chunk of it would disappear because people are too lazy.

I think I have three gmails and I don't remember any of them being paticularly difficult to create, but if people are really too lazy to create an email account and activate QL through that, then gamers are worse than I thought. :p

Some benefits with aliasing:
1)Can be more playful/experimental with style :)

2)Can just go in a game and shoot stuff

3)Preconceived bias: Because someone has played against you or doesn't like you they'll treat/play you differently which can be annoying.

I think some flaws with aliasing are:
1)expectations: Some people prefer to play their own level, and given the option if they knew you were rapha or someone good maybe they would spec out cause they don't feel like getting wrecked at the point in time.

2)Troll potential: Some people seem to lack a filter or target individuals for teh lols. I remember when I was relatively new to quakelive and helped some guy on dm6 how to strafe jump for 10min cause he barely was going anywhere when jumping. But once I f3'ed he then proceeded to curb stomp me flying around the map and hitting 40lg or something. It's like why bother if there's a chance of being burnt like that :/ (Just an example but in general people don't like wasting their time playing/doing lost causes)

3)fakeness: It's weird when people make up persona's to hide their identity.


One solution could be the ability to toggle or just straight up make an account that is tagged "alias" on the profile and maybe somehow in game as well. Then preventing them from talking in game, doubt many would do it, but I would lol. I think maybe this way some people might have a little more respect for aliasing, as it does have a really bad name atm. (well in quake at least, changing names or aliasing in other games like CS isn't really an issue which is interesting, my guess is it's the gametypes and stats)

Another solution would be retooling stats, maybe that'll reduce aliasing shrugs.
