There was an actual piece of journalism from 2010 or 2011 which revealed this hoax and included short comment from either the Gladiator guy himself or someone who helped him code the bots (can't remember now).

It's impossible to find it with Google now, all you get is a million reposts of this from July. What a dump the Internet has become.

It's hilarious how many sites reported this without anything resembling fact checking. Because 4chan and reddit are known as reliable sources of information. :D

it's not a matter of lack of common sense, it's yellow journalism.

The worst part is sites report false news in order to get visits, which translates into revenue, by making them up from scratch, not verifying sources, distorting them or by purposely re.posting old stuff. You know, like real life media :P
