The last time Quake Live featured at a major gaming event in South African was at rAge 2010, where international stars from MSI Fnatic,

Sebastian Spart1e Siira and

Pierre-Emeric l1nkje Portier attended. The event ended on a high, with SA's #1 at the time,

Stephen Ph4ntom Cloete played in an exhibition match against Spart1e, which ended in overtime with Spart1e winning 10 - 9.

Since then, its mostly been a barren desert. In 2012, the Xperts@Total.Chaos hosted an online 1v1 tournament along with two other tournaments that year. This led to Quake becoming a featured game for the Do Gaming League in 2013. After two seasons, we're finally seeing the top 8 from the Do Gaming League (DGL) face off against each other at this years final - the Do Gaming Championships!

I was hoping to qualify but I joined the league late, so I had to win all my games to make it, unfortunately lost a game :/

I get 14 ping, JHB to JHB server. Cape Town peeps get around 30 ping CT to JHB. We dont have any CT servers. To overseas, looking at 200+

I don't think there is a pipe directly through africa, he probably has much better ping to Italy/EU.

We ping 170 to Rotterdam though! Hopefully technology improves and in 5 years its down to 100.

It would probably be between Detrony and Shase, both of whom qualified, but are playing in other events at the tournament, unfortunately they made it that you could only play one game at the tournament, and they have team commitments.

If we include inactive players there is also Szarko and Ph4ntom.

In this tournament, tbh most of the players are pretty closely skilled, games are all going to be tight.

Had so much fun covering this event, the South African guys were very cool and I'm impressed how smoothly they managed to run everything!

I'm super happy that everything turned out so well and that the players competing managed to put on such a show!
