As for uNkind, heres a quote from Cooller's 2010 interview:
No, I'm not friends with uNkind, we don't keep in touch, but I saw him about a year ago and I know that he changed his first and second names. Now he is Mark Morozov. [smiles] At that moment he told me that he was going to work in the administration prefecture in the region he lives in, as far as I understand it's Novogireevo. Unfortunately I have no more information about him.
Still, Cypher is a worthy successor. He, Lexer and unkind are the top3 most talented players this game ever had, I believe.
Its a shame that neither unkind nor lexer had the mindset to stay on top for a longer period of time, they both had the potential to replace cooller in terms of the most successful quake3 player.
LeXeR was a notch below cooller in terms of overall aim. He could have been really amazing but his aim at times was shitty. He nearly got beaten by carde because of lg abuse from that fucker.
I never thought lexer could beat zero4, and neither did qlr. I remember cooller joined a server when lex vs zero4 were warming up and made some comments like 'will be nice to play you in the finals z4' because he knew lexer couldn't match their aim at the time.
damn shame
uNkind was just fucking nuts. First time I seen this kid and he hit the most RIDICULOUS rockets. Fucking cypher would be like 'holy shit? he hit THAT?' Cypher's rockets look like they could be planned or aimed on purpose and they were effortless. uNkind rockets are like 720 flicks at random crazy angles while moving the wrong way. Just fucking botlike but he's on lan.
I'm probably the one spamming the most if you seen that GTV flick rail from teleporter at WCG. I fucking lost my goddamn mind and disconnected from spamming so hard.
I agree that Lexers weakest point was lg vs lg, but still I think it was his head that denied him winning more titles.
I remember a ztn game between lexer and cooller, where lexer was afraid of fighting qlr. He had control for like 8 mins, he always got him to like 10hp and every time he let him run and recover. Cooller then started pushing him away from items with shaft and lexer lost by a few frags.
If he wasnt so afraid, I think he wouldve won.
Same story with zero4. Lexer was nervous and did stupid things - most probably because of what cooller said before the game. Lexer being outrailed, you just didnt see that happen at all, almost.
At this point you really have to give the props to cooller, who was way smarter outside of the game than unkind/lexer.
fatality won like 5 major lans that aren't fishy, which is a great achievement but not close to what he claims. Also he knew when to retire from each game and what tournaments to sign into, otherwise he would have the fame of strenx at most.
Other top players have like 20, vastly more than all what he claims including the showmatches (that make skulp a 7 time world champion according to those rules). Marketing rocks: the "real fatalities" are cooller and thresh.
In the end that's the reason here on ESR, the site devoted to the genre he shined in, fragmovies are about lexer, unkind and lots of top players have fragmovies about them....except fat.

Epic music is recursive after all these time imo, making a big deal of a dead videogame over and over again. Fragmovies are just like skatevideos, compilation of random highlights sync'd together with music to archieve a good flow, get the viewer's attention from a genuine point of view; they are funny to watch because it's funny to play it.
for a moment i thought i saw an aerowalk there, dunno should that be possible with these 2...
anyway, looking forward to seeing frags from back in the day when they actually looked epic, rather than 95% acc shaft battles and 50 rails in a row crap movies of today...
at least it is not uNkind. as player in this demo has another style of mouse movement. uNkind had high accel, and that's why his movement was sharp & jerky. Just compare any of those last his demos with aero. Guy in the aero's demo moves mouse smoothly, and his rocket is weaker in compare with uNkind's one.
its ok i believe you. thanks for the information ;D
i know the style + settings from unkind really well. i just speed up the most demos when searching for stuff, and i cant see the exact mousemovement of the player when i speed up the demo.
and the flickrail doesnt really let me think "ok was that really unkind?" .. the demo is called uNkind vs hamzik ffs ;o
well i downloaded every demo from ESR / cyberfight.ru and there was a FTP with unsorted demos. but yes please upload the collection, i dont want to miss things.
this cd is an outstanding work - truly epic matches of all times collected in one convenient shell. some demos r without file extension (wont run from shell), so u have to find them on iso and run/rename manually - directories r easy to surf.
no there is no spot for other players in this project. i wanted to make a movie about lexer&unkind, but with a very little storyline and a different athmosphere -> red mist etc.<- ( this will not be like a memorial/esports movie). so it is important to me to have 2 xaeros to work with.
i think it was a russian problem that they couldnt attend on more international tournaments.
but the russian scene did for example asus lan, annoncements over cyberfight.org/ru. i think i saw Evil in the 1v1 finals there in the last 10 years. this meant that Evil was a good player, even if he started to attended late in international tournaments.
achievements or not, look at the plus count for this news, and all people they plusses are not russians entirely. that speaks for them i think.
so its safe to say they were talented players without doubt. legends. unkind was hard to spectate in gtv, because of his high sens.
This stuff sends shivers through the spine. 10/10 if I could vote here.
catch some ancient oldskool flick too (not that good, but perfectly shows a carnivore's bloodthirst we've all experienced back in Q3))) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2TPbn8AePo
who needs shaft when u can rocket/rail like this
also - does anyone know the song name in dabestfragskiev? some groovy predatorial dnb, and the end staff breaks r also very nice.
What do you think would this two guys with their skill at highest level in their prime time could compete with todays players in best shape as Rapha, Evil, Cypher, Cooller?
They would obviously need some time to adapt. QL is not OSP and the mappool is quite different. Neither of them had ever played an aero game, so, you know.
Other than that, they would kick ass the same way they did in 2002.
People still believe that this game has moved on so much that any of the oldschoolers wouldnt even get a frag, but we have to realise how talented these guys were. Cooller was #3-4 at that time, and still he came back two times after retirement: the first time it was after 3 years against the ultimate, untouchable wonderkid cypher on asus lan and cooller won the finals 2-0 with 20%lg. Let me remind you those were the infamous 'xerp' days, when players often opted to get a shaft over mega.
The second time it was after 1.5 years against evil, who dominated the international scene as much as cypher in 2009. On asus lan aswell. The rusty Cooller won again.
My point is that these kind of players were special for a reason. You can still watch a 2002 ztn demo and LEARN new things, which is insane. And every time theres an oldschooler making a comeback, everybodys like 'yeah well, nice, but his time is long gone'. Then bam, tox outaims the noobs idol strenx like it was a tier 2 ffa scrub and zamuz makes top2 on his first event with no losses until the finals itself.
yes. If they were the best of their time, they could continue progressing today and still be on top. but if they came back today, then no. most likely not. I mean look at socrates, hes like 1700 elo. r0fl. add 4 more yrs of rust and u get the point.

bodzo was a special case, an early ruler in quakelive when the good players still played vq3 1v1. everybody predicted that when the skilled players change to ql, bodzo had no chance. but i give props to bodzo. i dont know how serious bodzos comeback was.
At that time vq3 was pretty much inactive, there were no LAN tournaments, maybe some online small thing ppl watched over gtv, but thats it.People though Bodzo is the next big thing, the top player and servers were always full of specs, however there were some that though there might be someone from the past that could handle him. Then this guy from the past really showed up.. it was stermy, coming from some faggy american gaming league. He literally wiped the floor with bodzo!!Then people started proclaiming him as THE BEST, the next prodigy to succeed tox from q4.At that point, pretty much everybody from ql though dinosaurs from vq3 cant do shit, as games were totally different and vq3 is a thing of the past.Soon all of them decided to switch over the night and result was evident. The point is as Nalipotanka asked.. if LeXer&uNkind decided tomorrow to come and play ql, they could definitely play equal with top10.The question would be how long would it take for them to come back in shape.
its hard to say but an interesting question. puritan answere this very good.
now the game has changed, but they were outstanding players to a time phase. i think its true that they could play highskill today. i even think fatal1ty could play highskill if he trains one year.
the game evolved so much they wouldnt even be able to beat top16 today in THAT shape with THAT aim and speed(2002-2003), however if they kept occasionally playing(like LeXeR did play q3/painkiller/q4 till 2008 and always was local top) they would surely compete with top players nowadays if they were active like them
cyberfight.org down ATM, I don't speak russian. Man I've searched that demo data base so many times in the past, I doubt I could have missed something.
i cant make the style of cuts/edit i want with fragmsg on. you want to punsh me in the face when i cut immediatly after a frag happens ( like the unkind flickrail in the teaser) and a fragmassage popup for half a second and you cant read it fast enough.
Then all the frags can be from FFA against randoms which makes them so much less impressive. (Not saying that they are ;))
For me there are so many things that make a frag impressive:
Is it made in a tournament? Is it against a Top player? What was the score?
Making a 360 flick rail in a public can be "impressive" but the player might have tried it 1000000 times and failed but wanted to show the one time he made it.
But I guess some people just enjoy watching some quake! Looks like the movie is going to look good anyway so keep it up! Let's hope you change your mind for your next movie :)
because i dont use fragmsg. dont means u will not see who was the opponent. you see the opponents in all my movies (look at memorial 3 or memorial 2). i dont want to see or i dont care if a single airrocket frag from lets say -rapha- is the 12th or 3rd frag in a lead. i only care about scores and the timer when its necessary... like in a comeback (av3k vs cooller in memorial 3 / rapha frags czm on aero with 1 second remaining for the lead or the stermy vs fazz in memorial 2 etc.)
tournament-information: well in memorial 2 and 3 all scenes are from tournaments (i always listed all tournament events used in the movie). but for "nightmare" i dont care if it is a practice (duel) frag or a tournament (duel) frag, because for me it isnt really a esports orientated movie like the memorials. i only want all the crazy stuff which unkind and lexer ever pulled of in this game. and if a unkind airrockets a "Top player" in practise match three times in a row, i would impressed the same like it would happen on a quakecon tourney.
My only comment is that us quakers have all experienced tens of thousands of frags, and every single one a little message has popped up. We don't read the message, but it's there as a verification that a frag happened. Without that, it feels almost like...did I really frag him?
We need t2 nervous breakdown matches again - he who has the most cold blooded ass at the moment wins on this map. still love to watch q3legend cd demos of polos, death, fat and cooller on this particular map - always awesome, like sex and rockets.
This teaser made me look for some videos of unkind and lexer just to check out their style and all I can say - I wish I could play that oldschool russian style like them((((
OMFG, unkind's dodging is AMAIZING OMFG:
Lexer playing a 10 minite duel like a boss:
Polosatiy against TDMer starosta:
Now I love COOLLER MORE THAN EVAR BRAH!!!
Is this true evil vs 421? Anyway nice video of evil kicking ass in Q3
I actually remember watching the chaoticz vs lexer match live, it was truly an unbelievable moment, I was rooting for lexer and really down that he lost, and then.... I remember everyone going nuts :)
It's a damn shame you know. I got tears running down my cheeks like niagara's. It's a damn shame. What a beautiful game. This was art. This IS art. How could this be lost in time, replaced by all these shitty games. It's a damn shame going on Twitch and seeing all these clueless kids with their emotionless soulless games. I wish id, Faceit, some millonaire.. did something, to put this game where it deserves to be. The spirit of competiton in videogame form, you can't match what this game delivered and still delivers today in any other platform, you can't get these emotions from any other game. It's a damn shame. I wish id would wake up, try to do something. Really try and bring back their beloved son. The core is already done, they forgot to love and nourish it. To keep that flame alive. They forgot to polish it, to bring it to the next generations. To bring it to the next level. May God save us, for Syncerror and the rest of the team have sinned, they have destroyed the experience with limitations, with dictatorship, with lack of gore, with lack of freedom, with lack of soul. May God save us, and let's hope for the resurrection of the great Q.
We truly live in the last days.
added some preview screens. would be nice if someone with a LCD can give feedback to the "red fog", because on my CRT the contrast/gamma could be a bit different.
