Rat>Vo0>Dziku>Koddy/Vamp etc>>HAL_9000

Rat and Vo0 can consistently beat HAL when it matters on cpm22, and walk rings around him on other maps.

iirc Rat and Vo0 have squared off 6 or 7 times? It's either 3-3 or 4-3/3-4, super close.

I forget my point. He's still awesome to watch on cpm22 though :)

Rat has never played hal, vo0 and rat are both oldschoolers who tend to suck on 22/24, cpm22 is vo0's least favorite map and last time he even lost 3a to hal(albeit it was just practice and he was very very rusty). But mostly thinking that anyone can beat hal consistently on 22(and you can add 24 to that too, he's even better there).

If we want to talk most 'successful' cpm duel player, sure rat could top that list as he was probably the most dominant for a sustained period of time. But the game has progressed quite a bit from when rat played.

As much as I respect rat, I think he'd have a tough time maintaining the 'best cpm player' status when players like Vo0, Hal and others have shown some pretty impressive skill that I'd say wasn't commonplace back when rat played.

Heh. Me, I feel like I won't completely fucking suck next time I play CPM. My brain absorbs these moves, shots, timings, angles and thinks "yeah... I can pull that shit off. I mean, it looks so easy, right? Watch me go, broseph. High five". Then I crash, burn and get a bloody nose. But at least I tried. At least I tried. ;_;

Was a best of 5 for some cup. If HAL upload's his VODS it must be there. He lost 3:0, on 2 maps he got blown out over 25 frags.

stomping is not the word, it was a regular game and when he saw i got the lead he didn't try much harder, i beat him in a bo3, 2-0, then he went thru loser bracket and he beat me in bo5 3-0. I can win some matches against him sometimes but he is definitely better than me, no need to state the obvious.

maybe he just preferred the loser bracket :o

Does a different keyboard really influence your game that much? I've always wondered since I'm playing on a 10 year old keyboard myself. Been thinking about buying a mechanical keyboard lately, but can't push the envelope yet.

mew, the leet defrager, told me that switching helped him a bit with his consistency and he'd never go back to a membrane.
he also said that black/red were the best ones to get.
haven't tried one myself, but i plan to soon.

Randomly found this topic and would just like to point out that I'm not a defragger, unless you used the term to mean trickjumper. I always tricked in CPMA, never in Defrag.

But yes, a mechanical keyboard did help me become more consistent. Started with Cherry MX Black's and then got Red's which are better for my delicated ingers. :)

it won't make you better but it's mainly a matter of comfort. It's much more comfortable to play on a good mechanical keyboard than on a crap membrane keyboard.

but i still think that it can help you A LITTLE BIT for the dodges or/and the strafe-aim.

so let's say you're playing on a crap membrane keyboard, you duel a guy, and final score is 12-9 for you. Now you play the same guy but with a good mechanical keyboard, final score will be 13-9. So you got 1 extra frag, can make all the difference sometimes.

I see. So it makes your movement/dodge more crisp and more reactive I guess. But is it a worthwhile investment, since most (good) mechanical keyboards are 100euro's and up. And which one would you recommend me?

I did some research and the Corsair K60,65,70 struck my eye. I heard the black switches in the 6g/7g (steelseries) are a bit too loud and hard to press. Also heard brown switches combine good 'feedback' with the easiness of the red switches.

Maybe it's best to try them out before buying?

If you want tenkeyless then i can recommend CM Storm QuickFire Rapid, it is made by costar(who make filco keyboards) so quality is very good(not quite as good as filco) but it is almost half the price of a filco.

As for switches, I have used brown, blue and red. I prefer red the most for gaming, blues for typing and brown is a nice middle ground(imo).

It's worthwhile to get a mechanical keyboard just to use it for other things, as well as, quake.

I've got my eyes set on a Key Cool 87/84 with reds/browns. $70-$80 shipped from china worldwide.

definitely worth the investment and i think it's fair to say that it will help you more than little bit overall - just is far more accurate. as for what to get, i got a Steelseries 7g with reds and, while loud, the keypresses are like butter, not hard to press at all. i'll probably go with something like browns next time, though, as there's hardly any feedback that the key has been pressed with the reds.

I wish I had a mechanical keyboard.. I just can't afford it ;/

I really wouldn't call it that much of a bottleneck.
They're more of a nice novelty. I'd say their impact on your performance is minimal overall. You can buy some great membrane keyboards here and there, and of course they're nowhere near as good as a nice mechanical board... but they won't drastically hamper your performance either.
This is coming from someone who's owned several mechanical keyboards, and I wouldn't like to go back to membrane, but I think I'd play just as well if I didn't have one.
I love them for everyday use, but I don't think they really improved my game much.
Just my two cents.

The guy obviously loves quake and is always actively pursuing to imrpove his aim/game and gather information about other people's settings. It's his hobby, let him be.

Learning about other players' configs and setups is about ideas and trends.

It's not like you just exec their config and buy their mouse and expect to be that good.

It's about learning how they do it, which gives you info on how you might do it too.

In regards to ultra low sens, and ultra high sens, these are outside the norm of what the vast majority of pro players use which would seem to indicate that they work for very few players. We're all human after all.
