Cooller, but he's 3 years older than Rapha and that would be a big advantage based on the time they started playing quake 3/4. (2000)
3 years is not much when you're old, but when you're talking about someone whose 10 vs someone whose 13
whose 13 vs someone whose 16,
whose 16 vs someone who 19, its a big deal as you're always playing catchup.
(imagine picking on someone in school whose 3 years below you-its not cool) and how many kids did you see picking on those 3 years above him, in my school every year had the "hardest kid" and it was well known the older one's were systematically tougher than the younger ones, that was no coincidence. Even when there was only a year between them, you could bet money on the outcome, unless you have those "mature kids", but even then, they know their rank. Physically or Intellectually. Age means more when you're young.)
Now the roles have reversed, coollers age has made it harder for him, and easier for Rapha.
Quake 4 was almost identical to quake 3 too, Rapha was always playing catchup. Most people peak at gaming in their late teens early 20's its the age where you can have a lot of experience in the game and little commitment in life.
Even Av3k took time to get to where he did, everyone knew he was talented for his age, but he still had to wait till he was 16+ to do some real damage beyond bright prospect.
1. I think the best way to compare 2 quake players is to compare them in their prime. I would say Cooller's peak was higher than Rapha's. Anton was untouchable.
2. Rapha, obviously. But he's dealing with nowadays Cooller, like todays Carlsen is dealing with nowadays Anand, not the Anand from the back of 90-s.
Overall, i would say Rapha is better as a sportsman, with a proper champion attitude, methodical approach to the game and so on, better in preparing his mind to the Superfinal.
But Cooller... is just better in being Cooller. And all these guys, Rapha, Cypher, etc, ever wanted, since their childhood, when they were watching Antons demos again and again, was to be like Cooller.
I would just say that quake is a lot better by having both players. When youre talking about this level of talent, theres no need to compare, just enjoy having the honor to still see both competing. nuff said
Some people think that because other players win the tournaments, cooller is no longer best, but that's not true. Cooller is so above the competition that he no longer cares about just winning. He tries to put himself is as impossible situation as possible, and then to outplay the opponent against all odds and still show good result.
He plays all tournaments with handicap 1. Before any tournament he cuts away his eyes and pours cement in his ears to not see or hear anything. He uses anesthetic to make his hands paralyzed. He sits facing computer backwards. His mouse is not connected and all buttons on his keyboard are randomly shuffled. The monitor shows Teletubbies episodes repeating over and over again and CPU is hardcoded by Intel to run Microsoft Word instead of Quake. Before game, he starves himself to death and Russian army sends artillery battery to fire at him non-stop during the games.
And yet, he is still in top4, sometimes winning 2nd and even 1st places. That is cooller, so deal with it.
