Everytime my favorite player loses it is because the opponent cheats. My favorite player is the best there is and only loses when he plays practice games, or against cheaters.

Rapha's hitscan aim is average and probably one if not his only weakness. I think even he himself would agree with it.
People always refer hitscan to aim which brings up confusion. Because they forget about rl aim. Tbh there aren't many good players with a strong rl.
I don't mean the +back predict stuff but the balls out aggressive rl action which requires you to hit the hard stuff vs dodge kings like evil otherwise you are getting lg grilled. And there aren't many who have those sick rockets. Imo av3k, cypher and rapha have those mind blowing rl skills most people forget about when talking about aim.
So it is a bit harsh to say that rapha's aim sucks but his hitscan aim lacks a ton compared to others and even lost him games. Have you forgotten about k1llsen gamescom? Have you forgotten the trap on strenx at upper dm13 area? Have you forgotten how stermy crushed him on dm13?
Just take a look at how he dodges in lg vs lg fights. He does mostly mini dodges to sustain a fairly decent lg. If he has the stack advantage it will grant him the fight win. Proper dodge in a lg fight would fuck up his aim hence you rarely see him taking lg fights without an stack advantage.

Rapha does not have poor aim, far from it. He is suffering from poor settings in the same way as Agent is. Rapha until lately has used sens of 5 with 0.25 accel on a 1920x1080 resolution with a 400 dpi mouse. You need at least 618 dpi not to skip pixels if you use such high sens on full hd.

Combine the skipping of pixels with crazy accel and you get inconsistent aim. Its not coincidence that players like Strenx are the most consistent aimers, their mouse feel is rarely effected with that low sens and there's more room for error when you are using 50 cm for a 360. But when you use 20 cm like Rapha does the smallest changes make big differences.

For the recent Quakecon CA he changed his sens to 4 and lowered his accel, and what happened, his aim looked sharper then ever.

Basically what I'm saying is when you play with retarded settings you need to play allot in order to get the feel, and its hit and miss. When you play with good settings you will be more consistent because you will make it easier on your brain.

Rapha with retarded settings still had great rockets, good rails, average shaft. With good settings he has great rockets, great rails, and good shaft.

He hits what he has to hit in almost all situations, you can't do that with shitty aim against the top players.

Tell that about retarded settings to my brother. He plays with 4 CM 360 and high accel.

At q3 cpma I played for half a year with 1cm/360 and hit over 30% lg and almost every game over 50% rail. Played high sens 1-10cm for quite a few years. Now I play with 24.5 tho.

i think his biggest strength can also be his biggest weakness.

First of all, i think every post should start with the important premise that we aren't pro players, we didn't win several lan competitions, we aren't in his mind, we don't know why he does or does not do some things or other ones.

So, by stating what i think are his major weaknesses, i declare to be aware that there must be precise, on-point reasons to why it is better the way it is, and that i may not know.
So takes all of these points with a grain of salt. I'm not pretending to know better than him, or that those points are unquestionable. Those are just the impressions i have developed, to reply to OP's question and contribute the discussion. Peace.

1- His aim. And not really his aiming skills, meaning his hand-eye coordination etc., but rather his crazy sensitivity settings, with the highest sensitivity coupled with the highest acceleration values between the top 20 pro players, by far.
As other users have pointed out, there are even strictly technical reasons to why it is self-damaging to use those settings: using high screen resolution, with low mouse resolution, with high sensitivity and acceleration leads to pixel skipping, and an unreliable accuracy and feel.
It's not just a matter of choices: his settings seems the result of just personal preferences instead of the search for a good compromise in the search of the maximum efficiency.
And they reflects on his in-game performances: his aim is often weaker than his opponent, even when his opponent does nothing but running away and be caught by surprise and out of position.
He can hit really good, but it is a very variable aim, more often than not he is outaimed even badly.
Particular in the rail gun moments, wich is by far his weakest weapon.
He misses so many shots, basically every time he has to move his crosshair in a non-tracking way, quick repositionings, flicks, etc., he misses. By little, but he misses.
His aim isn't really bad, and against very weaker players it can be simply outstanding, but whenever the opponent dodge well, fires back a lot, and the situations are tense, he misses a lot and takes way more damage than he deliver.
His aim has gotten better from the past (some of his past fights are simply... embarrassing, 3 rails missed in a row against exposed unharmful opponents, the lg beam wildly swaying on the opponent hitbox, with accuracies like 25%.....) , but it is undeniably one of his major weaknesses, that often lets him down during excanges.
It totally gives the impression that he could be a lot stronger with more conventional settings, such as Cypher's ones.
Or with an extra low sens like the ones of Strenx or Evil. Of course, he'd never do that, because he'd have to sacrifice part of the moving abilities, but settings like Coller's, Cypher's, Spart1e's, Killsen's ones would allow him to still moving freely, and i would even bet, that he'd hit a ton more, once used to them.
There are various reasons that leads to think his settings could be even almost random ones: he uses the most basilar and rough hud between pros, he uses a mouse that, altough undeniably GREAT , could probably be changed with something better in the 2013, he gives the impression he does those things because he doesn't really care, or to show that it is possible to win without losing the mind around them.
Some kind of statement in some interview from him about that subject would be nice. Because as it is now, he gives the impression he doesn't care or he doesn't even have a clue on some cvars or on how to search fitting sensitivity values (beware, i'm not saying he is clueless or whatever).

2- The lack of high level players to practice with.
This is often an overlooked aspect, but he really have only Dahang to practice with, in the entire American soil. To play online with European players is out of question, the ping is too high, and even with the best technologies, it will be so for years to come.
This is really a devastating aspect, to be able to practice regularly with the likes of Cypher, or to compete in weekly competitions would means a lot for his form. And provide him some cups, too.
I think this is also part of the resons for his playstyle. To analyze demos and vods is often for him the best (and only ) way to mentally practice, since the times, not too many years ago, he couldn't even play online but just watch demos of Cooller and the likes.
A really major setdown aspect for him.
A lot of the choice mistakes he make are related to this, to play against an opponent in a certain manner is totally different than to watch another one playing him. In subtles ways that many of us cannot even comprehend.
Not to mention you don't wire combat skills in your brain watching a video in the same way you do with pure practice.


3- His playstyle. That is also part of his strenght. Often he is too much cerebral, too much thinkative(?), too slow in decision making; but mostly he often leave his opponent go away without chasing or forcing the action, even when he could, and should.
You can't just be content with a +2 frag difference and with watching the opponent and going for the items, forcing a bigger frag stack makes you safer, when you could. Sometimes he gives the impression he just doesn't want to change his style. Exactly like Cooller.
You know, when he is 180/180 and he doesn't engage the opponent but just walks his way through the map, barely shooting.
Sometimes you heard that he is flawless, but really, he is not, at all. He does a lot of mistakes, tentatives, changes of directions, wrong weapon selections, etc. etc..
Sometimes he is just obsessed with chasing the items and avoid taking damage at all costs, Agent-like or Cooller like.
And those are just the "mistakes" a noob can immediately see, the more you see in the tactical aspects, the more you realize about mistakes or half-ones, or the ones that works out eventually.
He is too much rockets oriented, and by too much i mean ostinately shooting rockets when your oppoent have shown to avoid them easily, when you are out of range, when you have weapons better suited to deal damage against aware opponents. Other players that does that are Cooller, and mostly Cypher. It is sometimes a trolling choice, other times a "making a statement" choice, an exibitionism choice, a "skillmoistha" choice. In those quake times, when even when you can use rl, you should better use LG instead.
This is not 2001 anymore.

(4) - He could be not much hungry anymore. After all these years, the win, the travelling, he may be losing interest in the game and in everything that runs around it, he may be looking for something to do in the real life, a real job, is he studying at university? Etc..

lol you clearly dont understand a thing about ql duel. rocket launcher is the hardest weapon. but used correctly u can avoid 100x100 getting damaged. its by far raphas best weapon (also cypher use it great, not for nothing they are the best)
his desicion making its EXCELENT, he reads enemy stack and amunition left and only attack whe he knows he will get the frag. and thats the way to win. he doesnt leave the enemy alive with low health, killsen does for example, but not rapha.
also his map awareness is fantastic. is very rare to watch him getting caught by surprise

actually you're right. I think rapha sometimes intentionally misses his shot to make his opponent think he's tilting. that's the mind game he plays. I'm also good at that. The goal is to make your opponent feel more confident, but superficially.

This is going to be my new excuse for missing shots.
