plus the 4% of Mac users. any time there's an update people don't like, people go apeshit, but now that there's one that is literally guaranteed to make 6% quit people act like it's not a big deal. if there was proof that the next map pool would make 6% of the player base quit for good people would be mass shitposting about QL being dead.
this is a bigger deal than the map voting system was because we KNOW we're going to lose a chunk of the community, even if it's only 6%.
A proportion of this 6% will continue playing on Windows, though. Or with wine (which should work fine). Or even through visualization (ok probably not that).
You've never used Wine before, have you? The smallest bit of input lag or glitches would make a game like Quake unplayable. No one is going to play QL using Wine. No one.
I guess I just find it hard to believe more Mac users play Quake than Linux. Especially since I heard that there's some issues playing on a Mac vs. PC.
Also, from id software, the entire code has been cleaned of most of the Windows dependent code. That bodes well for something like wine working effectively, I would think.
