My issue is that a one month subscription of premium or pro is so expensive, you have to commit to 12 months to make it really worth it. If you play loads, it's worth committing to the year, but for someone like me it's still cheaper to buy 1 month and take the hit when i feel like playing... which i'm always reluctant to do given the increase.

It is worth it though, loads more active servers.

ok, i respect that. i take back my comment about maps not beeing votable for non-premium off the bat. i just say that because they have delirium, which is an awesome map.

still it all comes down to the fact that there are not even 15 people playing duel RIGHT NOW, 4.45 PM in all over europe.

Use the server filters:
- "all populated", so it shows more (though not all). Save this setting.
-"premium" only, self explanatory. With the default settings standard accounts see way less servers than premiums.
- private, same. "Premium" has to be used both in public and in private games as well.

And even then there are servers that won't be shown, for example tier restricted and invite-only.

I have a standard tier4 account now and with all those I can see more than 80 people playing duel in europe, practically at the same time you posted. 5 times more than what you posted and 80 is not bad at all for thursday at 5pm, plenty of choices at all skill levels between tiers 3 and 4 in that specific mod.

The setting that made the most difference was "premium", which showed more than 100% more populated duel servers than without ticking that box.

edit: Though I agree it is quite weird the game hides the vast portion of servers, with the default settings. For newcomers it makes the game appear vastly "more dead" than what it is.

I get their reasoning is to only show servers that can be joined to without any troubles, but there should be a one click setting that shows every single server instead of doing all that tedious work, which even that doesn't show them all.

Also "all populated" is something all active quake players should have in their settings, because those servers can be joined for spectating and in lolca people leave mid-game all the time. While in EU the setting that mattered the most was "premium", here in the 3-1 world "all populated" usually shows more than 100% more populated servers so for us it really should be the default.

Yes. They should totally call it something else. Like "Joinable servers" or something. The problem is that there's no good wording for that. They don't want to expose servers that noobs would click on and be told they can't join cause they're full.

And for the lulz I'll check FFA in Europe now, with all that from #7. Right now I can see 13 populated standard FFA servers. Not one of them was private or premium (public or private). The player count is exactly 100.... not 20 as you posted.

Without "all populated" it showed 12 populated, which isn't much of a difference. That means that either lots of players joined servers in 1:30, which isn't likely at this time of the day, or that you lied in the OP.

I think that would be too late now, unless that would we transferred onto QL 2.0 then it would work. Something like 5 years Pro so about € 200/250 would be good. It would also generate some money which could be put into promoting the game and developing more stuff.

The casuals would have little to gain by subscribing. The problem is that the competitive players are a small minority. Why should they be supporting everyone else?

terrible idea. recently i witnessed some poor souls (obviously new straight 1250elo players) trying to play tdm on pub and the only option they had in their ping range was a server with demon's keep. gg no re THEY'RE GONNA LOVE TDM SO MUCH

hmm.. tried today to upgrade from premium account to pro. And I will need to pay about 30$ for such an upgrade.

Now there is 25% discount. But normal is 2$ for 12 months for premium and 4$ for 12 months for pro. So 24$ and 48$.

For such price you can buy from sales a few NEW games during a year. So imo its rather expensive compared to other games.

this is just the start of it though. There's huge swathes of improvements they need to make that would not even be that much effort to implement and plenty of quake lovers and developers willing to build.
