2 major ones:

1) poker is luck based and therefore, even retards feel they can succeed and are willing to risk their money. In ql almost always the better player wins.

2) Security issues. How you will prevent hacking in ql?

all decisions on server. clients only get necessary information. encrypted information transfer. Its no problem for them because lag most likely doesn't matter and server load is significantly smaller.

Then the only ways to cheat are to actually hack the server and/or your competitors or to use some kind of engine that provides you with statistical analysis.

No, it's supposed to be a fun activity that is enjoyable regardless of whether you lose or win. Some people already take the game too seriously to enjoy. Even more, money should not be an incentive for any activity that doesn't actually generate anything. At least in a spectator sport, the spectators get enjoyment from watching top players. At the lower level, the enjoyment should be for the participants, not spectators.

Money has a tendency to corrupt everything. Betting is no exception. I say keep it out of Quake... or limit how much can be wagered per week. Losing or winning your beer money isn't very significant. Might be fun sometimes.

it should only be a few cents per match for those who would like to bet.
it's more symbolic, but still people would try harder.

In the future it will be smaller tournaments, pay to play.

It could work well, but the stakes need to be low.

Gambling only corrupts if the money you could win exceeds the enjoyment of the sport OR the loss could place you in financial trouble.
If you get the balance right it can be good.

If it were limited to 2 bucks a game, you would need to play and win 15 games a day just to make 30 dollars. And vice versa.

The plus side is it could allow you to play better players, who might not give you the time otherwise, paying 2 dollars to lose against a top player would be money well spent if your goal was to learn.

The idea itself is good. But we need to get rid of the cheaters.

In a casino if you are caught cheating, the pitboss will take you into a backroom and smash your hand in a vice.

the idea of tournaments in which every participant chip in some entry money (on a 'admins' paypal acc or something) and the top3 gets them (doesn't have to be 1v1 even, could be any mode) is not exploited enough imo,
it's the same way most ppl did lans in past, and it doesn't require any sponsors apart from players who wants to play in a competitive cup.
