i guess you could think that you have to get a feel for the accel curve, so if you play just a little, most of the time would be consumed by getting used to the accel over and over again. thus making flat sens more consistent.

Im nab, 1.1. sens 1800 dpi, no accel. Never played with accel and tried... I will need to play more to get used to it.I always have feel that it is too fast a bit.

It took me a while to find an accel configuration that I was comfortable with. But as soon as I found one (even if it wasn't perfect at first), I knew I'd never go back. And I just play 1 or 2 hours per day (if that).

I tried with high offet -> 5
and little accel 0.02
and I could play like that, but there was almost no difference ;d

With such a high offset, the accel would hardly kick in. :)

Someone told me to start at 0.1 accel and an offset equal to my sense and lower the accel in steps of 0.01. It takes a while to get it right because you have to tinker with 3 values at the same time, but IMO it's well worth the trouble.

It takes a while to get fully used to accel (took me about a week, but I don't play that much :) ).

A tip someone gave me to tune the offset (so you can know exactly when accel kicks in) is to set cl_mouseaccel to a negative number below -1 (like -1.04 in your case, for instance). This makes your movement invert as soon as the accel takes effect and helps particularly in adjusting your settings for LG fights.

I feel perfectly comfortable with my accel settings even after few weeks/months break. Ofc my aim isn't the same but I can bring it back to previous level in few hours or so. I used to play without accel and there was no difference.
I'd say that after a break precise mouse control poses a problem therefore it's harder if your sens is high. I used to play with very high sens many years ago and I remember that even after few days break my mouse control was terrible.

It helped me a lot with my aim, because it allowed me to lower my base sensitivity to about half of what it used to be. And the accel helps with rockets and flick rails. My movement improved a bit too.

accel helps for rockets and also for close range fights when using a low sens + accel

but for hitscans, rail and shaft, no accel is more consistent

so if you want to be an aim whore, i would recommend you not to use accel

K1llsen, cypher and evil use accel so that statement is quite bullshit. Same as using a lowsens for hitscan. Just look at demon or stermy.

I'm not sure about stermy, but i know that hal, his little brother, does use ~25cm/360°, which is actually VERY close to low sens (real low sens starts at 28cm). Hal got better raw aim than stermy.

When I speak about aim (raw aim), i mean when the opponent is dodging in a straight 1v1 situation, with equal positioning. I'm not talking about aiming at the opponent when he's trying to escape/avoid a fight/battle, I'm not talking about aiming at the opponent when he's up and you're down (like for example if you're near the rl close to the teleport @ t7, when your opponent is trying to get the MH). Raw aim isn't defined by sneaky shots or weird "fight situations", nor positional advantage/disadvantage.
A good way to judge your raw aim is to play eyetoeye 1v1 for at least 5mn. Others maps doesn't mean much, and especially duel, cause there are actually A FUCKING LOT of different situations that can be taken at your advantage, even if you got worse raw aim than your opponent. Actually, there are so much different situations at duel that even if the opponent has better aim than you, you can still "out-aim" him, and make it so that at the end of the match, people will believe that you got better raw aim than him while it's actually the opposite.

Also, you probably got me wrong, but I didn't say that hitscans are only good with low sens. Actually you can manage to have a very good lg even with med sens (20-25cm/360°). I'm just not sure about high sens tho (high sens is a sens <10-15cm), i know latrommi is using 14cm/360° and he does good with it, so...

cypher is the sneakiest mofo i know :D. He can do amazing pixel rails 4x in a row (remember one of his game against strenx at dm6?), he can rape you and hit like 45%+acc with LG @ bloodrun in the tunnel at the middle of the map where the MH is located (remember one of his game against cooller when cooller came from the lower YA to the tunnel to grab the MH?), his awareness of the game is huge, he got some pretty sick gamesens.

But, there again, if you put cypher in TDM/CTF or even CA, he won't do as good as he does at duel. Same for eyetoeye.

If he beats strenx or tox like 5 times in a duel that's not because of his raw aim with LG, but more because of his positioning/stack advantage/opponent awareness.
Now if you do strenx or tox -VS- k1llsen at eyetoeye 5mn+, k1llsen will lose most of the time.
Also, if he can have some even lg fights vs tox or strenx, doesn't mean that he will win MOST of them, actually everyone (at least in the top players department) can out-aim strenx or tox. But if you play like 10 games against them, you will out-aim them 3-4 games out of these 10 games.
You seem to only remember the games where k1llsen managed to get even lg fights against strenx evil and tox, but you don't seem to remember the games where he got out-aimed by them (only talking about LG there, not rail).

Nah, he played with gohann and zsx, 2 former CA players (they also played rocket arena 3 back in the day), and they ended up 2nd or 3rd, can't remember. 1st team was "faces of meth" , a 100% CA team.

I watched almost every tournament of the last 3 years. And I have seen enough games of him to say that he can keep up with them in a even 1v1 lg fight. Whether he dodges better doesn't matter as he still hits 40 lg on them. (and that is what we are talking about, right?) I know strenx and tox hit harder but that wasn't the point.

av3k isn't particularly known for his dodges. He's like a bulldog so basically sometimes he will do like kind of stupid agression but that can still surprise his opponent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Most of the time it works tho.

zsx doesn't use mouseaccel.
but anyway zsx's aim is better when there are more targets to shoot at :D. What I mean is that he's better at 4v4 CA than 1v1 at eyetoeye. He's good at duel too, but some people like strenx or toxjq can outaim him.
Still he has other abilities that can drive him far at duel :)

Actually e2e is very different than thunderstruck. The 2 maps don't play the same way. There is a bit more space to dodge at e2e and you can't really get a positional advantage, and at e2e, it's basically impossible to outsmart your opponent by playing more carefully/defensively. Thunderstruck isn't a simple flat map, there is also the "tunnel" and some upper platforms that can be abused while playing defensively or sneaky.
Actually positioning matters quite a lot at thunderstruck, while it's almost non-existant at e2e.

I remember studying this very demo a month or two ago and rewinding the warmup something like 50 times, and it still amazes me.

No, we are talking about settings and how they don't really matter as long as the guy can play with them.

Ofc you can play with ANY setting and still be good/very good. But when you want to be the best, and I mean the real best, or at least be in the top3, every little thing matters, including your config mouse sens and so on...
Even with crappy settings you can still be 1900-2000+ elo player, but to be 2500-2600+ every little thing matters. But anyway duel isn't only about aim, actually far from that, so even with weird sens settings, bad config etc one can still be 2400+ elo lol.
But in eyetoeye, aim matters A LOT.

abyssus is actually a very good mouse :D and it doesn't have any anglesnapping/accel etc.
The fact is that theories are right :p. The kinzu is actually a pretty bad mouse, so is the g9x.
Strenx or evil would have a different playstyle if they played with a mouse like the abyssus. And i'm pretty convinced that they would be even a little bit better aim-wise.

But quake is a game where you improve everyday, no matter how much/how long you play it. Even people like cooller and rapha improve everyday by a little bit just by practicing.
Ofc most of us won't reach their lvl but still doesn't mean that they are super-humans or god-like (i have to agree tho that cooller and rapha are VERY close to god-like :p), they do mistakes too.
For example evil does a mistake by using the kinzu and copying strenx's settings. If you give evil a g100s or an abyssus or a zowie FK/AM, after like 6 months of intense practice his aim would be even more deadly than it is currently. Not by much, only by a little, but still. At the very top level, EVERY single detail matters.

Latrommi is good at duel, but far from top level. Latrommi is very good at CA 4v4, but not the best. Latrommi is god-like at TDM. It's not particularly because of his aim (cause he beat me 2-3 times out of 15 games we played against each others at thunderstruck), but more because of his smartness and experience. Lately he got so much experience at tdm and he played so much high lvl tdm matches with/against the best tdm players, that he knows basically every single situation and can adapt fucking fast. He's not an aim whore like hal (stermy's little brother) or serious (the serbian kid that can hit 45%+ lg on ANYONE), but he got A LOT of others abilities that help him a lot to be at the very top level at TDM.

Using no accel made me get carpel tunnel but I aimed like Thetoptriad, except legit

Accel let's you flick and hit some ridic shots, but with no accel and just using arm/wrist movements, you feel like you can hit everything. You get upset when you rail lower than 65 and you aren't hitting 50 acc lg. The control is so precise.

Btw dont you have that serious guy config or atleast a clue on what sens he is using?

I would say that accel allows you to use a (very) low sens for hitscan, while still being able to move around and shoot rockets because it kicks in when needed.

a) Being more comfortable = better aim.
b) aving control at all times (situations and every time you play) = better aim.
c) Don't use a way too low or way too high sens/accel setup, for what you think mean/feel both are.

That's all there is to it and that's why settings cannot be copypasted. Plus there are lots of variables, including hardware, surface and various settings, though most importantly what you think is high or low: for some people low is 30, for others it is 50 based on how they aim (arm, etc.; strength too) and play.

if you use a lower sensitivity because it is more comfortable or you want to shaft better, accel is good to make faster turns and rocketjumps.

The accel I am playing with is purely for lg, i find it makes it easier to track people at different speeds.

Mouse accel will get your crosshair where you want it to be quicker than vanilla. In many situations this will give you an advantage. However, we are not infallible so it's hard to judge if using mouse accel is any better than just using a high sensitivity. Some prefer the base sensitivity low for accurate tracking while still being able to flick. That is pretty good, but it's just not for me. I prefer a medium sensitivity with no mouse accel. I don't like the idea of having unique mouse control in Quake and not for any other games. Seems better to be as consistent as I can be.

there have always been trends wether to take accel or not to. it has often been claimed that its inferiour in terms of aiming.. to be honest accel players like cypher, av3k or k1llsen aimrape the living shit out of people when they are sharp.

i tend to agree with what has been said earlier > people that rarely play are maybe better of without accel. i kinda noticed that players coming back after some time have more difficulties when they are accel users. never seen for example spart1e or tox suffering on aim even after weeks of break. rapha on the other hand perforrms quite poorly in his first games and then his results get good when playing much (same with cooller when he was using accel, early games on LAN days where a horror to him).
i think accel players indeed need to invest more playtime and warmups to get "into the zone" but in the end dont seem to suffer from any disadvantages. if i remember corectly then the only consecutive LAN tourney winner without accel in quake3+QL was CZM. on the other side we have fatal1ty (yeye i know) / zero4 / cooller / cypher / rapha / av3k / evil (even hw accel is accel D:). not trying to prove any point with that other than "using accel doesnt mean trading aim for movement" and bs like that

My 2 cents : I can't be comfortable with movement and can't aim correctly without accel.
It's weird cause i'm used to play without accel in some other FPS, mainly Warsow, xonotic and QW.

i use cl_mouseaccel .15 - accelpower .3 and

clearcvar m_cpi
clearcvar cl_mouseAccelOffset
clearcvar cl_mouseSensCap

Eveil don't have an lg dodge. He just walks strait at youand track you with the lg until you shit your pants and die.

But he knows when and how to use his lg.

Imo accel makes it a lot more unpredictable, unstable. Even if you get used to it. But thats just my 2 cents.

tried to set DA the same:
Deathadder 1000Hz 1800 dpi
sens 0.75
accel 0,00283
pitch/yaw 0.022
but seems to be different and slower even with 0,004 accel
wtf, this small accel with 1800 dpi (btw. lowest dpi of da is 450)

how to set DA the same than ? lol ;d
