with the new Volcanic Islands GFX cards comes the capability of using it for sound encoding.

The series R7 2xx & R9 2xx has it built in.
The Radeon HD 7790 is supported too, with driver updates ...

in this video from AMD itself, they show the Lichdom demo showing the latest cryengine

find it quite amusing, the sound when the shooter shoots from the roof behind you, the sound designer suxxs in this example.

sound aweful, a railgun sound from Quake4 or ETQW i want to hear ...

NO the chip has much more power to do the job as a tiny chip on the motherboard.
hd7790 & R 260x is Bonaire GPU

compared to a proper soundcard, what powers does it have? 'simulated 3d sound' has been around for 10-15 years, how is that different from what creative for example has been doing?

the difference is, that now the CPU doesn't have to do the work anymore, which it shouldn't be doing in the first place anyways.

all was good until shit MS removed directsound HAL from vista and above, and leaving soundprocessors on soundcards unused.
(developers doesn't use openAL either, for whatever reasons)
