In Q3 demos the scoreboard access was recorded in demo, so if it's popping up randomly, it's because the original recorder was bringing it up.

Can get rid of that if you do /-scores. Would be good if a script could be added to igmdb that does /-scores every second or so.

In that case it really stays there continuously. I remember watching this demo back then without such a noticeble thing - guessing this might be related to demo protocol conversion being hit and miss (notice the frequently missing explosions).

Still, thanks for posting! For many of us it's better than having to reinstall and maintain a Q3 install with various version switchers, good ol' Seismovision or what have you to watch the old games...

(less than 12 months after the game released)

None of the accomplishment are being questioned, none of that is unfairly judged, at no point did anybody mention that these old players didn't deserve their medals.

Of course the best quake3 players of today could beat the best quake3 players of 2000, but it's not like the best players of 2000 wouldn't be a challenge either.
Usain Bolt and a current NFL team are more extreme examples of out-classing older generations of atheletes. (I don't want to digress here, but Michael Johnson is still better than Usain Bolt overall. Bolt has only barely beaten Johnson at the 200, but doesn't have a prayer of beating him at the 400... at that was in 1996/1999. The hardware, the client, the server version, the "competition mod" settings, the network rate, etc... are all heavily sided with the 2016 players performance-wise. To be fair, I'd like to see the 2016 players play on 2000 equipment.

The pre-2000 EGL/PGL seasons had players like Thresh playing with 200ms ping on Pentium computers and 56k modems. Most of the people reading this probably have no clue how that even feels.

There are examples of players/athletes of the past who are equal or better than those of today. Griffith-Joyner's 10
0m and 200m world records are from 28 years ago(and don't look like they'll be challenged anytime soon). Chris "NoSkill" Crosby(DOOM player) is still one of the 10 best deathmatch players ever(and his recordings are from 1996!).

Look at Damiah or Purri(Quake2 players); they have been top 5-level players for 15 years. I bet if you asked Purri if the Purri of 2003 could beat the Purri of 2016, I'd imagine he'd admit that the Purri of 2003 would if it was a 2003 tournament.

But if you want a better example, then I would say that the Cooller from 2010 is arguably better than the Cooller from 2003, and Cooller 2003 won the ESWC at the time, which was the most competitive Quake 3 event that there had ever been so far.

What I'm saying is that I don't think 16 years old Cooller should feel at all devalued by knowing that someone (in this case himself) is going to be better than him in the future. It can come from different preparation techniques, difference of equipment, or just the overall skill and understanding of the game increasing... Doesn't matter, to me the comparison can be made without offense, and what is important is being the best of the world and delivering at a certain point, and nobody can take that away from you.

If you think that I'm "average" I would be inclined to question your opinion on "what average is" as it's pretty clear that (if we only look at quake) I've had several good results. I've ended top16 in almost every cup I played in for the first 1 to 2 (perhaps even 3) years that QL was available.
I also ended top8 in a lot of online cups in the early days of Q4 (before they patched it).
However that I'm not "worlds best" is also obvious although from time to time I think that I could've given all players a really hard game.
You can ofcourse disagree with that and it's fine by me.


What I do think is fully retarded is that some poeple think that everything I post is some glorification of myself and is agressive towards others. While nobody ever reads what the post actually is about or what I'm trying to say.

And yes I whine about the ping because I care about quake. I seriously dislike that quake on high ping is a completely different game than quake on low ping. I'd much rather have it be the same game but harder to play on high ping than on low ping.
Even high ping vs low ping is a different game from low ping vs low ping. This was never the case before unlagged shit was implemented.

I was cfg whore and i don't recall any big time players using low picmip back in the day(01-02). I must have skipped out on some cpl holland players ;p I was really into the american scene at the time and didn't care for the russian players, so that probably had something to do with it.
