Seriously why do people play at 4:3 ratio? Looking through the pics it seems that like half the players do. There should be no difference except the extra on the side. Theory that it allows you to concentrate on a smaller screen area?
i think also flicking the crosshair to the far right/left with widescreen feels different since the perspective on the right and left is more skewed than center.
