Hello
Why has there not been done a new ESReality Mousescore? People still use the 2007 like the bible for mice. Imagine what a new one with all the newest mice till 2014 would do.
I bet people would donate just to make it happen.
Cause there's no point, mouse behaviour depends on too many things like surface/dpi/hz/firmware/driver settings/etc. Making such a full detailed thing would just take too much time and in the end be fairly useless cause ppl know approximate numbers anyway
You raise valid points then shoot them down with part of the argument*!
*Mainly comments about surfaces.
I agree that mouse behavior depends on many things.
DPI/hz/driver settings/firmware - these are controllable by the tester/user. You could opt to run tests at common DPI/hz settings. You could opt to use a marks mouse fix with windows settings at notch 3 (or whatever is popular).
Once you have a setup, running 400/800/1600/3200/X DPI tests take no time at all.
Your surface comment is quite important. This is the part that is not common knowledge and it also heavily effects the outcome of the above tests. So to correctly test this one would need a nice selection of pads.
Also you have to throw lift off in when you are comparing pad colors.
Judging by how well received the original (as the OP notes, bible-like) article was, it is strange noone has picked up the idea and run with it. Part of the challenge might be the costs involved in obtaining all the mice, setup gear and whatnot. However from a "good content" on the internet perspective this thing is a gold mine. Gamers love linking and this would get all sorts of love. However lots of content creators are not interested in doing this much work and instead we get terrible unboxing videos and people saying "its a good mouse" without anything to really back it up.
Also it is important to remember that gamers on esr know approximate numbers, however gamers in general? Or even "competitive gamers*" from other games? Have no idea.
*I played bf3 when it was released and the number of players who are good have no idea. Arguments about the game being crap aside, it was common for "good" players to have ridiculous sensitivity along the lines of 2inches per 360 on mice that are generally considered terrible by people in the know.
If someone was to embark on redoing the mousescore and keeping it up to date, what would they need to include to be relevant (beyond what I have listed above) in todays market?
I know there was a japanese site that had similar information to sujoys article, but I haven't seen that one for a while now either..
He wasn't as good. Actually cypher's performance severely decreased in q3 when he switched from the WMO to his deathadder (cypher edition).
In the end the mouse for quake is the WMO. All notorious champions use and used it, or at least a related mouse (3.0, IME and even the intelli ball mouse).
Hm. All of those champions have started with quake when there wasn't anything else to choose from actually. Since quake has suffered from a steep learning curve it might even be legit to say others who might have used different tools never bothered with the game.
In other words: WMO rules - yes. But again, all the quake pros using it has as much to do with when they started.
i don't think that the mouse was the problem in his case... i think that he's so used to wmo that he would need more time with a new mouse to get used to it... the best mouse is the one with which you played the most time with, because your brain knows it in and out.
I would even pay just to see an updated version.
There are quite many csgo players that use QCK and cloth pads. And some other groups use other pads.
I think it could have worked out.
