He makes a damn good point. Why promote Delirium, and new maps, only to bring back Hektik? It just makes sense in terms of what they've been promoting. Also, I agree with zoot that it'd be great if 125fps wants to throw out some random "One map cups", then some of them can be TDM/CTF to further promote other scenes.

I began the thread by questioning why being called a "twat" is a bad thing, since it means "vagina." Then vor_ connected a few dots to redefine vagina as something "loving cock inside" it.

it's because qwih created the mixcloud account and he's putting it there. also mp3 file is perfectly sufficient (many would argue way better even) so there's never hurry.

This is cool. Maybe you will get more listeners if you put it on youtube as well, seen as that's where a lot of people listen to stuff these days.

I don't understand much about what's going on with quake live online coverage, it seems to be infested with tryhards that know nothing about the game. I mean this Koziol dude, you can easily tell he knows nothing about the game and still decides to give opinions and put himself in a position to be heard. 900 elo player giving analysis :/

I know quake is a small community and we are grateful for what we get in terms of people who are willing to make content for the community but there have to be some standards. It seems we are so in need of some sort of effort because of the status of the game that we accept anything without any regard for quality.

This is just not the way it should be.
Also in casting Memento Mori is not good at it. He's a great guy and very likable but he shouldn't cast. I learn 2 minutes from Twister then I do from Memento Mori in 2 hours.
Point is the commentary should feature people who understand a game to an extent and give new insight to the meta game and what the players are thinking with the different moves.
Like Artosis in Starcraft, he always gives the newest info on meta game developments and new styles being played, which honestly is the best and most enjoyable part of the commentary.

I dont mean to be hard on either guy cause I'm sure they are both good peeps but there just have to be some standards. You can't make up for the fact that you don't understand the game by producing some low quality content and then putting urself in a position of status within the community. There has to be some value and not just the effort.

To be honest I don't like DDK as a caster either. He knows enough about the game to understand what is going on but often misses out on insight and the meta game. He is also often very awkward and misses queues and stuff which makes a little annoying.

I think zoot is a great caster, he is easy to listen to and often has great insight. I also enjoyed the American fishstix, he was really smooth and great to listen to, rapha was great at casting and you can see the insight he has into the game. I also enjoy ins's casting, I think he gives good (ins)ight into the game and knows his stuff. Twister was great at DHW as well.

Oh dear, I'm replying to 'Anonymous'.

Just want to make the point that that were no moment where koziol was trying to give insight in to the game or what players could have/should have done in any game during this show.

We were discussing our thoughts on DHW Production, QL at future DH's and the current 125 FPS news. Koziol is one of the most dedicated viewers in the community and I certainly think he has an informed opinion regarding these matters (as do many people in the community). Combine this with the willingness to contribute content in his own style - I think he has created a niche within QL. I wouldn't think for a second that he is trying to compete with any streamer or video blogs, he's making content for people who want it - and for himself.

If Koziol does try to start doing 'colour-commentary' then I can understand these comments a bit better, but this has not happened. I get the feeling some people are missing the point of this show. This is a talk-show (hence the name), not a demo-analysis.

Thanks Koziol for getting me on the show anyway, it was a lot of fun. I hope to see more and more guests coming on the show to share their opinions!

Maybe you've seen a little more of Hektik in the past, you sound a little sick of it, I just think it's good to have it for a change, to have some Rotation. Yes Toxicity was great at Dreamhack, but H3ktik is.... wait for it......

and on your final point about there needing to be some value not just effort, that's for the community to judge - koziol is doing what he can, and if that turns out to be useless, it'll come out in the wash. If it turns out to be the most sublime analysis of all time, we'll see that as well. The fact that he isn't very good at playing the game doesn't mean he can't make an effort to analyze and discuss. After all, there are great art critics that can't paint worth a damn!

Aero = rail + area control.
Tox = lg + item control.
Hektik = Hektik (tbh I haven't played it quite enough....)

I think what's good with hektik is all 3 main weapons can be used quite equally. There's no real area control in hektik, Cycling the items is very important but it's very easy to get a steal on all of them or even make damage on the item pickups.

On hektik you can have a strong hold of the game and rack up the frags quite quickly like on toxicity, but that is mostly because the other player is beeing agressive rather than the in control player beeing agressive (like on toxicity). Also there's almost no way the out of control player isn't going to make a frag at some point and get control back, because of the item cycling process. On toxicity you're quite safe if you got a good cycle and you may never lose control. On hektik if the elo isnt too different it will most likely happen. Unless you're insanely lucky imo :P

one of the really big problems i see in Hektik are some of the spawns, the ones when you get frags in the yellow room are just messed up.

I agree the map is not as one sided as tox. At least on lower levels of play people can actually play defensivly a bit... And my guess is on higher level too (maybe not the highest), you can tell that pretty easily with this reasoning: is agent good on map X at high level? Then map X has some good defensive strategies.

Anyway i disagree you can't control the map, dening hitscan weapons from above is possible, as it is to deny the upper ground. If you have just RL and the lower ground you can never fight. You have to guess right when the guy in control is going to MH or to YA to get position or a good weapon. And getting a cycle is doable YA->RJ red->Green, deny position on mega and take it when you want to, isn't that right?

Hmmm... I kinda do feel like the RA ledge gives you too many possibilities. Like it's "the area to control" as you can output so much dmg when the opponent goes for something.
It seems like as long as you take the RA's and manage your health nicely theres only very limited things your opponent can do to get back into the game. Playing it slow surely doesn't help ;). He's kinda forced to play agressive.

I think the map would be more fun if the teleporters would work differently. (for instance "invert" the teleporters aka place the tele on the place where the exit is now, and place the exit on where the tele is now.)
Or you can take away some hp bubbles from the top (the ones near the rl's) such that you can't maintain the top RA ledge for too long without dropping down. Also this would create more emphasis on the mega which would be fairly interresting with the way the tele's are setup atm.
