tbh I don't care about the ELO. I don't know my ELO atm. It goes up and goes down. (natural swing like in poker)... what really pisses me off are all those "duel players" who play just one map and think they are good. and when a league puts some new maps into the pool they are shit and would drop to 1200 elo or something. And the peak of this iceberg are the "abort games".... its just hidouse. Every time I want to give some random players a shot something like that happens. I can hardly play a normal duel connecting on some random server. Eighter flame, only one map or abort. ... I have to wait till some friends are online to play with them and then people accuse me of just playing lower tier players, since all swiss players are lower tier to me. ...

I never understood people's problem with players playing only one or two maps does it make you feel miserable or bad?
Not everyone has the time to grind 1000 games on 7 maps.
I can play Aero,tox,dm13 well
i wanna learn sinister but to feel comfortable on it i need to play 100-200 games when do I play them after uni lectures etc.
also some people dont care about tournaments,competitive side of quake etc.

it's annoying when you play them because you might not be that into a map to play it over and over again

I have never experienced aborts, because I only play on public or my own servers => 1 Problem solved (aborts).

I most seldomly get flamed on even if I win 25:0 or something like that, because I pick players of my own tier. => 2nd Problem solved (flaming).

The Duel experience I have is just not as black painted as atomigo wants us to believe it is. I never experienced it as horrific as his post makes it sound. Ofcourse sometimes everbody will experience some flaming, but it is not at all as horrible as it sounds when he describes it. So he either does something wrong (refer to above points) or he just has the worst luck ever in opponents so far. All I wanted to say.

Why do you get annoyed by it? Because you think you are a better player and don't deserve to get smashed on that specific map? If I had the desire to improve then 1 map wonders would be the best training partners because you learn a lot more playing vs them than vs some random guy. Most of them are usually friendly fellows who just enjoy playing one map but hey they all do it for the ehelo!!

Thing is I used to play a lot back then when German Bundesliga was active. I practiced new maps, watched demos but since it all went down the rain I didn't have the drive anymore to improve and without that getting better is kinda hard especially when you don't play on a regular basis. I played dismemberment, battleforged, tox, silence etc. I'm sure an average player like you could easily beat me on them ;). Oh wait you never even came close to beating me not even gonna speak about phil who apparently is aero only nap.

But don't take it so seriously. It's best to play on pubs vs randoms, and only vs friends/trustworthy people on personal servers.

Btw he's Ukrainian living in CZE. I remember winning him on ztn (surprise) around a year ago, trashtalk and insults from him were quite astounding. I'd guess his quake ego sky-rocketed after he won some local LAN with 6-8 people attending :D

Aborting or "gg-ing" or whatnot before the game ends is lame and weak in any and all situations.

A horrible habit which has been adopted from the RTS community, there it makes sense to some extent, but in FPS games there is no justification to "gg"'ing mid-game.

Not true. If Quake duels were frag capped instead of time capped (which I sometimes REALLY wish it was), then what you said would be true. However in most time capped games (and sports as well) a match is often decided well before the time limit.

and "gg-ing". If theres 5 mins left and its 15-0, I would rather have my opponent gg and spec then play stupidly (which is what you do when you loose like this) for 5 mins. Waste of time.

I never do that, i'd always try to play with a clue and be as annoying as possible for my opponent rather than gging and play the next map, especially in tournament. Even though i do aggree with you when in a practice game one is too far headed and it's basically lost ( 15-0 ) @6 mins at ztn, anyway it's always worth a try to comeback ;)
