With really ridiculous I mean changing stupid stuff that isnt standard anywhere. Gravity, walk/run speed, weapon output damages, rocket/nade fly speed, reload speeds, vampiric damage, etc etc.... (maybe even random settings every game without telling the pros the changes, they have to figure out whats best)

As for teams I think 64 players should be invited the most well known tdm/duel/ctf players. All names put in a hat and pairs drawn

2v2 tends to be too predictable and has a lot of blow out games that just aren't interesting, this could make early games interesting also making the draw a fun thing. give it more of an all star tournament feel.

could also break it down to 16 duel, 16 ctf , 16 tdm, 16 ca players or 8ffa 8ca to get tony.

drafts are a nice idea tbh, but will be problematic for several reasons:

- pros gonna want to play with their buddies
- language barriers
- ulitmately, skill of matches being held back

It would be interesting to see how a dueler meshes with another dueler, or how a dueler meshes with a tdm player etc.

It would still be 2v2 so binds would be able to cover most every thing.

I would quite like to see an equivalent to Quakecon's Quad Damage** Tournament, but rather than changing games completely between maps you just change game type. So teams pick their game type first, in a coinflip pick pick situation, followed by the usual map picking.

All games need to be B03 or more otherwise things fall apart - B01 would not work because all we would see is both teams dropping CPM and Quakeworld and playing with QLive settings. With this setup viewers get a taste of all 3 different game modes suggested by Facey, and it will be fun seeing which players have a broader skill set and/or are better at adapting on the fly.

I'm assuming the stream will be quite relaxed and fun, for players as much as anyone, otherwise my idea is not particularly viable - switching physics etc between maps obviously isn't the best idea for serious high level competition.

**If I am correct in understanding that the Quad Damage Tournament was something along the lines of a map on each of Quakeworld, Quake 2, Quake 3 and Quake 4 per set .

Now about the holiday map pool comments:

QL's The Edge is completely unsuitable for 2v2, it has more health than all 4v4 maps and layout + item positions allow for almost unbreakable control with rails.

If you want a cup with forced Winter's Edge games (forced as a decider map for example), make it 4v4, there it can be entertaining.

(PS. I'm a noob, but at least an actual 2v2 player unlike most here :/)

I think that is a reason a lot of people are looking more toward a fun atmosphere because no one wants to see those early round games 20 minute long just domination. I'd suggest fewer teams or Shorter timelimit if they are doing every thing standard.

ztn isnt unbalanced. you are right about dm6, it "locks" much harder. silencep probably doesnt like ztn in 2v2 for subjective reasons.

Well could be just my own perspective too :P. We played grimmjow aka silencep and his buddy on dm6 and well needless to say we got raped hard. Since then every dm6 vs good people was just a walkover for them whereas we did quite well on ztn. We still lost but at least we felt like we were able to do something.
I think rail is a key weapon on dm6 and we don't emphasize enough on it. It's just so hard to comeback on dm6 hence I was asking why he thinks dm6 is more 'balanced'. (2on2 is usually rape anyway)

Ztn is broken in 2vs2 if you get a good start and get good weapons you can just cycle the weapons and item and defend quad easy, what i normaly see is people camping teleport exits or just stay early at quad to try make a comeback wich is really hard on ztn then.

On dm6 there are more situations where you can regain control.Becouse you can steal the quad better or kill it, and there are more easy standerd plays for defencive plays what makes it hard to cycle everything on the map even when you are in control.

Apparently people think it is a choice between fun and even games. It seems to be hard to set rules that would provide both ridiculousness (is that a word?) and tense matches, I think that's why people vote for more standard options. But personally I would like to see funny christmas event and in the future a more serious 2vs2 tdm tournament.

You rarely get to see a nice 2on2 cup these days so I would love it to be a standard mode one providing a good spectator experience. :/

Find it interesting that no one suggested Solid for 2v2. Decent map, saw it played in NA by rapha and some others before, and would be different to what's the norm as far as I'm concerned.

Yea, I agree - it's actually a classic cpm 2on2 map as far as my knowledge goes.
QL has a lot of decent 2on2 maps now IMO and some maps could work really nicely if they had a 2on2 item layout added (thinking of sinister, delirium).

I would love someone to host a new maps 2on2 cup. (Battleforged, Fuse, Cure, Left Behind, Devilish, ...?)
All my DM maps have 2on2 support because I really like the mode - even silence has a layout with quad although it is most probably not suitable.. :)

Hey guys, I tried to listen to the feedback and avoided talking too much, and I found it much easier and relaxing. Also, not knowing much of tdm, I keept the "analysis" simple and probably shallow for some spectators. Besides not feeling well healthwise, i really enjoyed it. Great games toward the end, kelle vs 102 being the best match imo. Happy holidays!

You're right about the result, but wrong about the cause.

The root cause is the seeded SE bracket. As simple as that. Seeding makes it impossible for noob teams/players to ever meet and makes the better teams/players meet very very late in the tournament.

Take note of 125 fps cups, series of rounds with better players entering in later rounds and weaker players having good games prior to that.

Take note of QuakeCon, groups of similar skill, again: to give good games to both players and spectators.
