Way too long, way too much average frags, no sync between video and the frags, terrible 'HUD' / info visuals...

What can I say, there was much potential with this footage as everything was shoutcasted and there were some real good players and frags, but it was mostly missed by this movie. This was more like a compliation instead of a real movie

That cypher 'comeback' was such an anti-climax

What's with the 4min+ coverage of the cypher/dahang match on toxicity?

...a comeback, or at least an announced comeback, without even a visible scoreboard.
Until you discover that the comeback wasn't even a winning one, Dahang never loses control making all the previous times essentially wasted.
Some " Systemz" quality of originality, right here.

Don't take 0 ratings on ESR too seriously, there's a few users who vote 0 on everything, some vote 0 because of gibs, some vote 0 for afk frags, it's not really that important.

They don't nullify each other. They give an average score of 5 between them - so if something is a solid 7 rating then it is having its rating pulled down a bit.

Not that I think this is a solid 7, time and effort was surely great but the end product was disappointing for sure.

i thought the same. i agree with the creator that no movie deserves a "0", but i never understand how someone can vote his own project a 10. maybe to "compensate" the 0 votes, but as a moviemaker you have to deal with it.

- For quakelive, (ye, that is a rule, cos QL is only a shadow of Q3)

- For quality. Video is smoothness, almost all VIDs looks like upconverted from 20 fps. Commentators video looks much better.
Too much compression squared artefacts, commentators video looks better too.
It's too dark gamma.

- Soundtrack is shitty poor, nothing to hear there. (:flyaway_jetpak_smile:)
- Bad sound editing, too low "music" level with normal spectator voices level. The same with intro and "epilogue". (If it was there)

- No proper playermodels, only Visors everywhere. Most quaker's community knows which model like every known player. Using "native" playermodels is some kind a tradition, like using bright keel/tankjr for enemymodels, also and it looks professionally.

- Too much Dahang's POV.

Author, You should demonstrate your beta work to you friends first, like other people do.

-intro (well the stuff after the "dreamhack" letters, finally the frags start, but no, you decide to put map presentations, wtf?)
-map presentation
-way too dark
-music too low
-huge gun model
-huge corner overlay (you remove hud only to replace 1/4 of the screen with that?)
-unnecessary footage of casters and vod footage
-too long garbage time after frags (i.e. 13:23, about 10 seconds after evil fragged rapha?)
-too long footage of that comeback
-this is 60fps? so blurry, looks like 480p almost (you need at least 10k-14k bitrate if you want sharp quality video)

sorry but this is just a bad overall video, seems so rushed, like you just couldn't wait to finish it and be done with it

The length is not a problem if it's packed with action and great moments. Like I could watch feature length fragmovies made by dKsL.

But this was 21 mins long with tons of crappy and boring parts in it.

It's same with real movies. La vie d'Adéle run 3 hours long but I wasn't bored for a second. Some movies only run for 90 minutes but I'm checking my watch every other minute to see when does it finally end.

Cons

It was too long, and lacked direction, didn't have the greatest frags I think because you were more trying to tell a story of the game, which is back to lack of direction in the video it short of shifts back and forth from telling a story to showing frags.

Pros

It obviously took a lot of work to compile the Dreamhack brand is well shown and marketed as well as the Quake brand, some people are overreacting if a movie is a 0 and your biggest gripe is one its on QL (what do you want him to do change the game to quake 3?) and another is the player models, if those are major things you are picking out of a movie its not as bad as you are making it out to be. I think you just got unfairly caught up with absurd expectations. Not all tournament/event videos are epic in the movie frag sense sort of way they are more for branding and showing top tier players which this movie does.

My advice for your next movie would be to envision the movie you want to make before you start going through demos. Set up timelines of exactly what you want then find the content to fill those timelines. You cant let the content direct your movie instead of you directing the content.

Amazing. Sweet music. Great HUD. Fab config. Insane frags. DAT COMEBACK HOLY SHIT.

Yes i want to tell a story and not to bring an epic movie like you thought! Most of the Frags was average, i need to make a decission what i take finally , becuase not so many good and and epic frags was in the full tournament when you ask me! i just enjoyed the 3 days of the dreamhack winter! and to the k1llsen demo in toxicity: this demo was totally broken ! i know i make some misstakes becuase i want to finish it intime before x mas! some people dont know how heavy work it is to make such a big movie with 21:10 mins!
i know some issues what you said: music volume level or the bright footage( i like it as it is). all in all it was a time problem from me, next movie is shorter and better for sure! Cheers

Whats with the floaty cams and self promotion. Just get on with it.

Liked the shots of players though, but the frags where tedious. Supposed to be highlights.

Anyway, keep trying. And keep in mind that keeping things simple is sometimes just better.

On top of what's already been said, I think that the fact that there is a picture saying that ddk & zoot are doing the commentary for the frags displayed but having them muted 99% of the time doesn't do them justice either

a person who watches this as his very first QL vid (poor him) will think ddk & zoot are always silent and very poor casters

For me, the movie seemed overly rushed and the config really did suck hard. Everything seemed overly bright here. Surely there are standard movie configs and encoder settings that you can reuse?

I did stop watching at around the 7 minute mark. Overall, pretty poorly done when compared to some of the movies we see on ESR. Sorry :( It's a shame because it could have been a good movie.

Hm, pretty poorly done for a whole shit load of reasons. This movie is like a polished turd, parts of it look nice 'n' shiny but ultimately, it's still a turd.

It got wayyyy better after 21 minute 10 seconds.

It's better if you set your favurite songs and watch vods of dreamhack instead of this.There are few frags which are cut actually and VOD from live streaming + background music without sync effect or anything. + I dont like the ingame CFG. Shit is too dark, barely see anything.

- few demos are not the POV of players which it says at the video.
- group stage and playoffs are fucked up - some players which are in group stage didnt even play against each other.
- too dark
- no sync effects
- vod of live streaming in the movie
- avarage frags (you didnt even bother to find the best frags)
- comeback of cypher vs dahang? WTF
- Finals in the end (cypher vs rapha). No scoreboard and score was announced before they ended the match. Was very confusing. I didnt know WTF is happening.
- music, anything else is better than Hardstyle in a fragmovie.

The movie itself is a disaster really.

It's sad that such a great event or probably one of the best QL tournaments in a long time have such horrible fragmovie representation. 2bad that hellspawn or zeroql didnt create the movie :/

So is this movie official or something? If so I can understand why people are so upset because yeah it's a pretty awful movie for reasons already discussed, still no reason to insult the guy I guess. But as for "it took a long time to make" well I'm sure it did but I could make a video of me counting to a million, that would probably take quite a while too, but that probably wouldn't make a very good video.
