I really, really like having the small gamescreen on at "all" times, somehow makes downtime (even just between maps) way more bearable. Maybe its just me.

problem with having the screen take upp all that space is that zoot would have to sit perfectly still or he would dissapear behind them.

For starters, the CET clock on the left is very distracting - it feels more comfortable on the bottom right because it is of least importance and should be least in focus. We all know what the logo looks like, it can stick mostly out of sight with the clock as is.

The giant preview on the left combined with the info box on the right, leaves zoot with a tiny clustrophobic square for his head to move, yet we can see his whole keyboard and mouse setup below?

Why is it any important to see the caster's mouse/keyboard?

The little mvd window on the bottom left is basically just there to show if the players are both ingame and readying up. It is of little importance and doesn't have to be so large - as soon as they ready up zoot changes the camera to ingame only anyway.

As soon as you enlarge the preview window, you're obligated to put up the game volume too... what exactly happens to the pre-game match talk?

The issue isn't the placement of boxes, it's the fact boxes are on top of a webcam in the first place. Adding static images will never really work for more than name plates or another camera as it just looks cheap. If you want that look, you need to separate the whole thing into boxes.

Yeah, other casters scream as well but it never makes you rip off your headphones. It's been done alot before, so shouldn't be too hard to figure this out. This would instantly level up the cast by a mile.

It's so nice and relaxing for the eyes to watch russian streams due to their picmip settings.

Especially if you're on a bad connection and 360p is the _best_ you'll get if you're lucky. With this I can watch the russians, but Zoot's picmip is just horrible, same goes for Faceit.

Seriously, for the love of God Cooller just stop using this horrible setting. It's not like people said a few years back they want to attract new people to the game cause it looks nicer this way. Compared to what's on the market the graphics is outdated anyway, and anyone who cares about quakes doesn't give a flying fork about jaw-dropping graphics anyway.

I remember when I streamed with picmip 0 for the first time way back when. I think I was one of the very first, if not THE first, QL-streamer when I did it then. I almost got a nosebleed from all the random PMs I got thanking me for not using the same old smeared walls everybody used. Most people actually prefer watching pixelated but detailed textures for some reason.

Like the time when av3k and cypher joined the stream..
It makes for really interesting streams with the pros point of view on situations added to the mix.
I really like ins and zoot dynamic but its nice to have some pros input sometimes to, to spice it up a bit =)

And you've improved quite a bit since then, very entertaining these days (not saying you weren't that back then, maybe I just noticed it lately). Dunno how to improve, doing such a good job already.

Look for some video lighting setups, you can get nice looking lighting with very little effort. People like to blame their web cam for the poor quality, but some lights and thought put into setup would yield very pro looking cams.

For instance, face it lighting is very flat and studio, IMO go for something a little more dramatic, should be possible with a few desk lamps and maybe a sheet

I dont watch it that much but when i did I found it kind of creepy how prominent zoot is even when there are other casters. give ins big screen!

I tried to ask Syncerror in twitch chat the other day is it possible to add features to spectators hud, especially:

- more control over UI elements (death to the stupid black bar for health/armor/name )
- additional UI components depending on the game type (opponents health/armor for duel)
- smaller logo/fonts, to create more room for other stuff

but he ether didn't/couldn't answer or he didn't see my question :(

This also can be dangerous, because everyone can create their own HUD, and it would look like 3 different games on 3 different streams.

If you guys (sync) think so, then that is a clear sign that we need new, third kind of spectators hud - stream friendly one!

Also, I don't want to cancel my subscription to zoot or to QL at any point, i fucking love you all (also faceit)

I don't. They take up bunch of space, and they are a relic of decade old technology, and [id] should work on fixing this problem, the game GFX is old, but when you turn on all the textures, its not that bad, for the stream at least, but man, that hud and fonts, they look sooooo outdated.

Hey, just wanted to pop in and say that with the new greenscreen background the sense of emptyness is greatly reduced, the standard overlay feels pretty balanced now.

Only thing I think you should work on is showing more warmup time in preview, I think it would help greatly to make the casual viewers to stay, a lot more than ins's face, anyway.

Set the camera's focus to manual so it doesn't focus all the time (noticeable when fullscreen).
Bigger mouse mat.

Since you plussed this, Zoot, what camera are you using?

Currently Logitech C910. Probably going to be upgrading in the near future though :)

It was cool to watch you do some runs the other day, but 1000 /kill a minute isn't going to keep many on a stream for long I think.

You're probably right about that, but I think it's more about how it gets more people to try it out. The server was close to full last time I believe.

Couple of suggestions:

It's too much red and detracts from the game - in this case less is really more: If you only made the Zlive logo bright red then I think that would be far more effective. Everything else needs to be more understated and unobtrusive...

#1 remove the red stuff at the score overlay COMEPLETELY.

#2 remove red borders at top right overlay. red logo looks good enough itself on grey.

I LOVE the bottom half of the new looks, but the score board is just messy. Also, try to make the clock area less distracting.

Ok - today the hud overlay is much better, but the color is still wrong. All the red should be replaced with the same grey as the player score frame from the original QL Comp HUD or like the grey used for "125 FPS" on the studio overlay so that it blends into and feels part of the original HUD, the Zlive logo could then be made bright red all on its own and provide the branding color link with the "studio" overlay which is actually quite good. The actual design of the HUD overlay is also pretty good, but the red is just so wrong.

There is only one thing that bothers me with zlive and that is the sound volume. The output sound volume on zlive is much, much lower than other streams, the video commercials and video playback sites.

Content needs some variety in my opinion. I would consider discontinuing the stream of the first groupstage to give some more visibility to the many teammode leagues running this season, the first groupstage isn't interesting very often anyway, if you ask me.

Another cool thing that could be organized is a rising stars invitational, like the old faceit legends cup but with new, promising players such as ash, madball, sev3n.

I like the idea of the rising stars tournament, would be nice to have another one of those - it's been too long.

Until I'm confident that the tdm/ctf leagues are organised well enough that there is a week+ advanced notice of each game and there isn't a high consistency of 'wild cards' used, then I would rather cover the duel. Maybe the problem is that wild cards exist already and teams have no incentive to hard book their games reliably. Really, a server + maps should be decided when booking the match - not when they meet up 20mins after the scheduled time. I think the league organisers can take note from this.

Would love to have a video like that :) Could take a huge amount of time though, definitely something I'd like to look in to how ever others are welcome to do something like this if they wish.

hm maybe you could just have the league organizers announce that you and ins would be willing to cast and that certain teams just drop you a message in advanced when they play?

and when nothing else is up or just group stage you can ditch that for the game if one is happening.

I prefer to work with a decent amount of notice, it is much easier to organise my time that way. A lot of tournaments organisers I have worked with understand this.

As much as it's fun to work with an improvised schedule, I don't do it. I like to give people notice of when I do certain shows so they know when to tune in. I'd love for an organiser to create a schedule that started after 125 fps games. I do quite a lot of work for very little reward at the moment, if there is anyone interested in providing improved (and slightly more time consuming) tournament organisation that collides nicely with ZLive's current activities - then I'd love them to contact me privately. I just simply don't have the time to work on a 'random' schedule similar to what you are suggesting.

i just suggested that when you stream most weekdays from 7-9 anyway that if a match was up "by magic" during that time you could stream that instead. maybe the players would consider that =)
