I think the association donor = blood/body parts is a misconception. Donor applies to anything you donate, money included.

Yes, however donator seems a bit more appropriate when it comes to giving away wads of cash. Donor is something written in your medical record so that people know you are a good guy Gregg even in the afterlife.

It's a general misconception OUTSIDE of English speaking countries. Mostly because everyone uses the medical term "donor". It's also used in Hungarian for example. But when talking about people donating money, we use a Hungarian word, and not the English term unlike in medical cases. That's why people think it's more of a medical term when it's really not. Both mean the same thing, but "donor" is more prefered than "donator".

Best frag is actually a display of the most overpowered weapon in this game. Simply horrible to watch. I'm pretty sure gienon had no idea what just happened.

Still a nice frag tho.

practice it! great for corridors and surprise attacks like the one in this award, also good all around alternative if you dont have the main weapons.

Well, actually i got nice statistics for it;)
But im really bad at PG, altho after some games people say, that its strangly good (zbot) :F

I don't pretend to know stuff, but here is how I see it:

a) Best used not as a attack weapon, but as a defense/suppression weapon
b) Spam hallways, doors and teleporter exits with it
c) Don't use it for reasons not listed in b) if you are not desperate or have other weapons
d) If you use it at close range, go for point blank shots and aim directly at the opponent — works best if you surprise or get behind him
e) If you use it at medium range, you need to fire predictively, much like hitting direct rockets. The feel of the speed of plasma balls comes with practice.
f) With higher ping d) and e) become much harder and useless
g) Plasma balls have some splash damage, so in theory you can fire at the floor to chip away some HP from an opponent standing right behind the corner
h) Plasma climbing: stand next to a flat wall and aim at the level where the wall and the floor meet. Press and hold the jump key, right after jumping press and hold fire.

This is the best frag?! Got 1000 $ frags in my demos libary then... PG is even lot more easier to handle on LAN. That comeback was good atleast.

If I had to do some self-criticism here, I think the performance award was not handled well.

I went naive enough to believe people would step up, look for content, and submit, but in practice, I received just a few submission overall. It would have been better, content wise, to have someone who could put his heart in it, and really go trough loads of content, and pick.

The thing is, I did not have time to plan nor execute anything better. So I just did it democratically, which introduced many steps, delays, etc. As first experiment it's ok, but I would not advise to repeat this the way it was done here.

I think it was fair enough. If there was a single person selecting/going through demos, the outcome might have been more "distorted".

Best match is a standard "aero has gone wrong", yeah Raphas aero might dont go wrong so often but still...

Best comeback on the most "comback-instense" map where its usually best starting spawn gets up to 15 frags than we see if the other guy can make 16-17 or just 12-13 in the remaining time...

Also best frag is kinda cheesy too, it was on open space but its more like a rush and pray plasma attack that turned out extremely well, i dont believe a single double air rocket or a sick lg suspend hasnt happened in the whole LAN. This frag might be unusual, and ofc sick on its own right still I'd have voted smth more calculated not a "fluke" (sry gienon).

But since it was voting, my opinion just differ than most peoples. It was a pleasure to watch the games, so thanks to all players.

This is the exact sentiment why I was strongly opposed to performance awards.

I was thanking Memento Mori for his work in organizing everything: Offering to gather donations, setting up a fair prize distribution, organizing all the award submissions and polls, distributing the prize money and more. I didn't say anything about thanking him for donating (I used the word task and if you think donating was a task, I'm not sure what to say).

I don't know exactly how much time he spent on this but it was certainly much more than the time than it took for me to earn the money I donated and to click the Donate button.

Of course this would not have happened without all the people who donated, but as someone who donated, I wanted to thank the person who organized it, rather than jerk myself off.

I don't think anyone who donated would actually give a fuck whether they were thanked or not for their contribution by random users in this thread.

What was your seed and people's expectations prior to the tournament and how did you surpass it?

he was a mid tier (each grou had 2 top high mid low, 4 spots for the playoffs), considered to be 6th best out of the 8 of his gruop behind Matr0x as well, managed to qualify to the playoffs

He didnt surpass it through practise as I imagine it must have sucked to have 40-300 ping warp all games prior to the tournament which makes his actual play in the tournament more impressive. The style of the plazma is refreshing to watch as its unrefined and crazy aim heavy also surpassing seed etc etc. If u want more search for the news on esr check seeds and watch the games and compare it to other underdogs. The info is all there, its not going anywhere.

Well, I don't know about everyone elses expectations, but I expected to lose to atleast 5 players in my group. Playing online with absolutely crappy laggy internet has fucked my confidence a lot, so it was a nice surprise for me to see that I'm not actually that bad :-p

I was right for every poll except best frag. although I still think I was right. plasma LAN is easy as shit to hit from that distance and angle, the situation just sorta happened there for gienon. k1llsen's rail boucing enemy off of mega to second rail for the frag on t7 were just so much more $$$ and actually meaningful. anyways, props to all the winners.

You're right. It's easy as shit to hit on lan like this. That's why everyone used plasma as their weapon of choice in close combat fights.
